12 Chapter 12

Voranis: I guess...now you have to make it up to me...for hurting my feelings.

I pushed a strand of hair behind my ear as I looked dead straight at her eyes.

She frowned at my words and may have become a bit guarded.

I tried to keep the serious look on my face but seeing her reaction made it very hard. I grinned before talking.

Voranis: Smoothies! My treat!

She blinked a few times as she processed my words.

Now it was my turn to stifle my laughter at her reaction.

Supergirl: You could have just asked.

Voranis: Where's the fun in that?

She grinned at my answer and no doubt planning her revenge.

Supergirl: Someone's a fast learner.

Voranis: I try! So?

Supergirl: Sure, we could-

BOOM!

An explosion nearby shook the building. Scared screams were heard as more explosions followed the first.

I noticed a part of the ceiling detached. Without thinking, I put my arms around Supergirl and jumped away from the falling debris.

Supergirl: Thanks! I have to go so raincheck on that smoothie. Now get to safety.

She left before I could even speak.

"What does 'raincheck' mean?"

As the explosions continued, people were running to exit the library. Some of them were pushed back while others were too scared to move.

I helped those people get out and then rushed outside to see what's happening.

Big mechanical soldiers around 4 meters tall dressed in red and blue with long black hairy hats were everywhere.

They were probably more of them all over the city and were firing their weapons at random targets.

I saw Supergirl fighting and destroying as many robots as she could to protect the people who were running away.

"What in Tassadar's name is going on?"

I had to move fast if I was going to help Supergirl so I pulled the trick of pretending to run away through an alleyway and then becoming invisible.

[3rd Person]

Supergirl was fighting wave after wave of bots but they were unending.

She dodged attacks left and right and retaliated as much as she could while protecting normal citizens. Her comms were down so she couldn't request help or find out what's happening.

As Supergirl was flying around and bashing robot heads, she noticed a figure appearing out of thin air, chopping a machine into pieces with two wrist-mounted energy blades.

Supergirl: New guy! You're here!

She was happy to see someone helping her even though she didn't really know him.

Voranis: Supergirl, what's the situation?

He asked while speeding from place to place, slicing bots without loosing momentum.

Supergirl: I don't know myself. Communications are down and these things keep coming!

Voranis: I s- ARGH!

Before he could finish his sentence, a kick from one of the robots sent him flying towards a building's second floor.

Continuous discharging of weaponry followed at the place Voranis landed. Explosives, bullets, beams and everything in between was unleashed.

Supergirl rushed and destroyed the attacking bots in an effort to help the new guy.

She looked at the place he was launched but there was too much smoke. The Kryptonian activated her super vision only to be late in noticing a robot with some kind of energy chainsaw was right behind her.

It brought the chainsaw down as she crossed her arms in a defensive posture. The expected hit didn't land as a blue lightning bolt was shot from behind the smoke, short-circuiting the offending machine.

Voranis: Ugh...Hey, I believe that makes us even.

Supergirl and Voranis looked at each other and chuckled a bit before stopping when they noticed that they were surrounded.

Voranis stepped to the edge of the building hole he made when he was launched and Supergirl landed next to him as they took battle ready stances.

Supergirl held a piece of wall ready to throw at the enemies and Voranis charged for a psi-storm when something fell on top of the mechanical soldiers.

A man in blue walked out of the dust cloud with a friendly smile on his face.

Superman: Sorry for the wait you two, the cavalry has arrived!

Not a second later, a woman with a longsword and a black plane flew above the two young fighters and engaged the bots.

Voranis smirked behind the helmet.

Voranis: After you!

He nodded to the young Kryptonian.

Supergirl: Don't mind if I do!

They both joined the older heroes and the fight became much easier with more allies.

[1st Person]

The fight ended quickly after Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman joined the fray.

Supergirl and me were standing close to the big three as they discussed the situation.

"Why am I even here?"

Batman: This attack was only a diversion. The real target was the truck that carried the Amazo parts which left the warehouse this morning.

"What's an Amazo?"

Wonder Woman: Judging by the machines that attacked, Toyman must be behind this.

"Who's Toyman?"

Superman: Agreed! But how did he know about the cargo? A mole?

I chose this moment to turn to Supergirl and whisper.

Voranis: This sounds like important stuff for you so I think it's better if I take my leave.

I took a step back and began cloaking.

Supergirl: Please wait!

She shouted and grabbed my arm the moment I fully cloaked.

"Damn, was she expecting me to leave?"

Supergirl: Oh! So you don't teleport, you just become invisible.

I released a sigh and de-cloaked.

Voranis: Do you require something Supergirl?

She let go of my arm.

Supergirl: Last time you just up and left. Come on, at least tell me you name.

I looked at her in silence while also noticing that the big three had stopped their discussion and were looking right at us.

Voranis: I can't tell you my name. Why do you think I have this helmet on?

Supergirl: Not your real name silly! Don't you have a superhero name? An alias?

Voranis: Hhmm...I haven't thought about having one. It's not like I actively look for trouble and bad guys. Of course if I see someone in trouble, I'll help but I don't know about doing this full-time.

"Especially if I have to work for money on top of that. I can't always be a burden to Lorelei."

Voranis: I can't have something like a hero name because I don't think I'm a hero.
