Magic in the House

New Orleans, July 27, 21:57 CDT

We see a man with a cane walking down the street when he enters a store that reads your fortune by Madam Xanadu. Coming into the room. No one was there until Madam Xanadu came out from the back room and welcomed the man. Sitting down, she asked for payment, and the man wished to speak to his dearly beloved, who had passed on. Madam Xanadu uses her critical ball to call on the spirits, and after being possessed and talking to the man, he stops it and tells her that he wishes that she could really commune with the dead, but then points out the fake wind machines and a jack that made the table float. He does point out that she does have the aura of a physicist. That's when a man suddenly appears and takes hold of the man before disappearing with him, leaving behind the man's cane, which later floats up and vanishes.

Mount Justice, August 19, 19:39 EDT

Everyone but Robin was in the mission room watching Superboy and Kuldur spar, with everyone else watching, or in the case of the girls, checking out the guys and making fun of Wally. It only stops when Superboy uses a move taught to him by Black Canary to take Kuldur down. That's when Red Tornado comes down from his apartment above the mission hall, and to no one's surprise, Wally goes over to him and asks for a mission. Red Tornado tells them Batman is responsible for giving out missions. But Wally points out that Batman and Robin are out working together in Gotham and that Red Tornado is going somewhere. Thinking about it, Red Tornado walks to the center of the floor and puts up some holo screens.

"This is Kent Nelson, a 106-year-old man; he disappeared 23 days ago, and Kent was a founding member of the Justice Society, the precursor to the Justice League." Red Tornado tells them to show them his information.

"Of course, Nelson was Earth's sorcerer supreme, Dr. Fate, Kundur says.

"Wow, in the records I've read, Dr. Fate's been around for a hundred or maybe a thousand years. He's one of the people who sealed the demons I know away," Alex says, surprising everyone but Wally, who says there is no such thing as magic; it's all fake with advanced science technology, and they dumbledore it up to surprise people.

"Kent is the holder of the helmet of fate, and it's unwise to leave such a powerful object unguarded." Red Tornado says

"He sounds just like the high priest and priestesses of Mars, and I would happily help find him," Megan says.

Then Wally, wanting to impress her, says he also likes magic and knows a lot about it, but Alex shuts him up when he points out that multiple times Wally has said magic doesn't exist and that what he is saying now is a bunch of crap.

"Dude!" Wally complains

"It's your own fault I've shown you the magic I can do, and you still blow me off, saying it's just an energy beam," Alex tells him.

After that, Red Tornado sends us off to where the Tower of Fate is to protect the helmet. When they get there, they only see abandoned businesses and an open plot of grass. Artemis teases Kid Flash, asking if the Towers are concealed by microprojectors and phase-shifting technology, and Wally is about to agree when he looks over at Miss Martian and then says it's magic going against his real beliefs to impress Miss Martian.

Kuldur thinks of what Red Tornado said when he pulls out a key to the tower, and in an act of faith, he holds it out just like putting a regular key in a door. When Kuldur turns the key, the tower of fate appears, shocking the team with how tall it is.

Not knowing that behind them, their target is hidden from them by two people. Who are waiting for them to open the doors of the tower.

Walking into the tower, the team looks around, noticing the door is gone, and then a projection of Kent Nelson appears and asks what they're doing there as it recognizes the key they use but not them, and before anyone can stop him, Wally starts to talk.

"We are true believers here to find Dr. Fate," Wally says.

"you moron!" Alex says as the projection disappears and the floor falls away, dropping the team into a pit full of lava. Everyone reacts quickly and does whatever they can to grab the sides before they can fall all the way to the lavatory, with everyone except Superboy succeeding with his feet going in and losing his boots.

Meanwhile, the bad guys are above them, walking in with Kent Nelson at the front. Using a collar to speak for Nelson, they get past the projection and go into the tower for real.

In the pit, Miss Martian and Aqualad are having trouble staying strong as Alex tries to find a way out before they all lose their strength. When Miss Martian has a thought.

"Hello Megan, We never answered the question," she says. "We were sent by Red Tornado to find and protect Kent Nelson and the helmet of fate." With that, the floor closes off the lava, and everyone relaxes. That's when Alex gets up, walks to Wally, and punches him in the face.

"Wally!" Everyone calls out as they go over and check on him, then turn to Alex for an explanation.

"Dude! What the hell?" Wally yells.

"That's for being a stupid idiot who doesn't think before he acts and almost got us killed, and for trying to impress a girl who does not like you!" Alex yells at Wally, making him upset and angry. "And this is not the first time you've done this. "Multiple times you've put yourself first and caused everyone to pick up the pieces of everything you did just because you're too stupid to notice that Miss Martian isn't into you, so I'm telling you now if you don't stop being this way, I'll talk to Batman to have you removed from the team before you get one of us killed!" Alex tells the truth that Miss Martian is too shy to say and draws the bottom line with Kid Flash.

"It's not my fault!" I..." Kid Flash starts to sound angry and embarrassed and wants to use an excuse when Artemis interrupts him.

"He's right. You wanting to be someone who believes in magic to impress Miss Martian almost killed us, "Artemis says, backing up Alex.

With everyone looking at him, Kid Flash looks at Miss Martian to see if she really didn't feel anything for him, and seeing her eyes look at him like he betrayed her made him realize he was wrong, so very wrong, and looking down, he tells the group he's sorry.

"Good because with everyone saying it, this is your warning to stop, "Aqualad says, standing behind the team's choice on this.

"Huff, I'm sorry, Wally, but you're a hero; you need to take this seriously and not play it off as a game." Alex says. "After this, I think you need to take time to figure out who you are."

After that, Aqualad pulls up part of the floor that was covering the lave, making Kid Flash scared, saying the backdraft of the lave will cook them alive. But when Aqualand does it, a snowy world appears, proving him wrong, and Artemis teases him, asking if he'll ever stop being wrong about magic. And still not believing in magic, they say it's all string theory and pocket dimensions. Making Artemis upset. That's when Miss Martian notices something, and when they all look over, it's a floating cane. Artemis and Kid Flash grab it and say they got it, but they suddenly can't let go and start floating up and disappearing.

While that's happening, the villains holding Kent hostage get annoyed with him as they've been wandering the insides of the tower this whole time and start to torture him when he says he's having fun watching them get lost when they remove the collar. The Villains hold off killing him because they still need him to show them where the helmet is and when they are taking Kid Flash, and Artemis suddenly appears with the cane, causing Kent Nelson to smile as he uses the power in the staff to fly over to it and use it to get rid of his binding and summon an elevator to get away. Wally calls out the one villain's name, Abra Kadabra, before the doors close, with the other villain angry at the loss of his plaything.

In the elevator, they introduce themselves, and when Kelt agrees with Kid Flash about the villains using technology and saying it's magic, it shocks Artemis that Wally was right, but then Kent tells them the little boy with the cat is Klarion, the witch boy who is a powerful lord of chaos and him being a lord of order as Dr. Fate, and tells them if Klarion gets his mitts on the helmet, he'll turn the world into his personal playground of pandemonium.

Exiting the elevator and walking up to a bell, suddenly a door opens on the ceiling, and Superboy and Aqualad fall out onto the floor as Alex and Miss Martian float down.

"Friend of yours?" Kent asked when a beam of magic shot at him, with Kid Flash helping him dodge.

"Freinds of yours." Kid Flash says, pointing at Abra Kadabra and Klarion. Then Kent goes over to the bell and hits it with his cane, making it glow as he and Kid Flash walk through with Klarion following them. When they reappear on the roof of the tower with the helmet floating in front of them as Kent was going to grab it, Klarion shoots him with a magic beam, causing him to be pushed back and hurt, and then Kent says a spell and puts up a barrier between Klarion and them.

"No!" Klarion yells.

"Not bad for an old 'doctor fake, ' right kid."Kent says this to Wally as he falls, with Wally catching him. "The barrier will last long enough for you to do what you need to do."

"I don't know what to do, Willy says, scared.

"Have faith," Kent says, taking a struggling breath. "... in what you can't explain. Believe in what you can no longer deny." Kent tells him before dying, letting go of his pocket watch with his wife's picture on it.

Wally tries doing CPR and Kent, but with Klarion attacking the barrier, Wally looks up at the helmet of fate when Miss Martian connects to him and tells him they need Dr. Fate. Hearing their scream, Wally is shocked. Finally, Klarion gets angrier and uses hands made of magic to grab onto the barrier and start crushing it. Having no time, Wally finally gets up and starts to put on the helmet of fate as Klarion's attack breaks the barrier and hits Wally, who's now wearing the helmet. And after Wally puts the helmet on, he appears in a black void in disbelief as the Spirit of Kent Nelson appears, who tells him to have faith as he's no longer in control of his body. The spirit of the helmet, Nabu, is now in control of his body and shows Wally what's happening outside of the space there.

"Outside, the spirit of Nabu is using magic to block Klarions attacks. When Dr. Fate destroys Klarion's body, he reforms behind him, and he shoots a beam of magic at him and hits him, causing Wally inside the helmet to get hurt as Kent tells him that's his body and worries Wally asks if Dr. Fate loses what will happen to him, and Kent tells him he'll see his wife Anza sooner than him. Back outside the helmet, Dr. Fate is losing. Klarion opens a vortex of power to shoot down onto Dr. Fate, making him hide behind a barrier. But when Klarion gets distracted talking to his cat, giving Dr. Fate time to gather his energy to break out of the stalemate and go after Klarions cat, the anchor that holds Klarion in the physical world, because as lords of order and chaos, they are bound to something to hold them there, the helmet of fate holds Nabu and Klarions cat holds him there, and using this to his advantage, Dr. Fate targets the cat, hitting it and making Klarion scared to be stuck outside of reality, so he chooses to escape.

Back inside the tower, Abra Kadabra is using technology to electrocute everyone, making them unable to move or use their powers. When a golden ankh appears behind him, removing his clothes except for his underwear and getting up, Superboy is pissed and punches Abra Kadabra out cold.

Back inside the helmet of fate, the spirit of Nabu refuses to give up Wally's body because the earth needs him. Kent then tells Nabu that Wally belongs to the world of science, not sorcery, and that he'll stick around till there's someone worthy to wear the helmet of fate. Before leaving, Kent tells Wally to find his own spitfire that will get away with nothing—for example, that Artemis girl. That's all he says before Wally takes off the helmet. and then walks over to Kent's body, putting his pocket watch back in his hand. leaving a sad Wally on the roof.

Mount Justice August 20, 03:48 EDT

Wally is in the souvenir room, putting the helmet of fate with the other souvenirs. when he hears someone, ahem, behind him.

"You never said what happened when you put the helmet on, "Artemis asked, and Wally gave some scientific answer about it, rewriting his beta wave in his brain, as he was bio-scripted into being Dr. Fate.

"No big deal," Wally says to her.

"Wait, you're still claiming there's no such thing as magic?" Artemis asked, "Heh. If that's how you feel, why keep it at all?"

"Souvenir," Wally says

"Geek, "Artemis calls him, walking away.

Then Wally looks at the helmet and thinks of Kent's words about finding a spitfire. looking back towards Artemis, and then Megan walks by. He looks down as he goes to his room.
