1 The Truth About Everything

It was just like any other day...I fucking wished it was, at least.

I wake up to a high-pitched noise that made me feel so nauseous and weak that I felt that I'd been dreaming up all the stuff I could do with my powers. I quickly found the source of my torment and the small silver disk beamed to life and showed what looked like a hologram.

At the time I was just grateful that the pulse of noise had stopped but the words that came from the hologram-man...were a bit shocking. Not to mention that he also looked quite a bit like me, just minus the blond hair.

"Hello, Son," he said, making me doubt even my own superhuman hearing, "You must be wondering what this is and how it caused you so much pain?" he chuckled before the hologram sat down on a chair, "Please, find some place to sit while I explain the history of our people," the hologram waited patiently but it looked more like it was frozen in time rather than the hologram-man waiting for me.

Sitting down on my bed, I gazed down at the light blue hologram as it resumed.

"I...Next time you see her, can you tell your mother that I'm sorry? As soon as you were born, I left for the Viltrumite Fleet. I suppose I should apologize to you as well, shouldn't I?" he left that question there before sighing and leaning over, his broad and robust frame crumpling inward a little. After a few seconds he looked up at me, his eyes looking up at me, "You, my son, are a part of the Mighty Viltrumite race. We're born warriors. Fighters. Conquerors. It's the reason you're so strong; because of your genetics from me. In truth, you're barely even human, son. Viltrumite-DNA is very...dominant. You still have some of your mother in you, I assume, but you're more Viltrumite," he paused and I began to digest the information being put in front of me.

So...I was an alien. Huh. Always joked about it but, well, guess I hit the mark right on, huh? I may seem like I'm being calm--but I'm really not. I'm freaking out quite a bit.

"The reason you were born...is because of the mission every Viltrumite has. To make more Viltrumites with people we see as suitable mates. You should know your mother. Her mind...is brilliant. It's why I fell in love with her. Ha!" he laughed, though it sounded quite self-mocking, "A mighty Viltrumite Elite falling in love with such a physically weak woman...But I don't regret it. Truly. The years I spent with your mother were the best of my millennium-long life. But alas, I had to leave to rejoin the Empire. I'm sorry, son, but...you've got a job to do as well. The Viltrumite Empire needs you to take over Earth if you wish to be a part of it. If you don't want to be...you will be removed. I left this for you. It will go off when we head your way, son. So, prepare. Please. If you don't want to go against Earth...please prepare the best you can."

And with that, the Hologram went quiet. I went quiet. My room was just...quiet. I didn't know what to even think. My paternal species...is coming to take over Earth and if I don't join them, they'll, well, I assume 'remove me' just means kill me.

The small silver disk suddenly made a noise and a small vial the size of a fingernail, with a small needle at one end, popped out of the side of the disk, "This...this will tell you all you need to know about our race; about your own biology. All you need to is inject it into the back of your neck. It's my last gift to you. I'm sorry," once he said that, the disk disintegrated and the vial dropped to the ground.

Everything around me was going in slow motion, just like how it usually did for me but this felt...different. More induced by panic and pressure than my own biology.

Grabbing the mini-needle from mid-air I looked down at it before pressing it into the back of my neck. I had no reason to trust the man who called himself my father but my instincts assured me that I needn't worry about it, and I trust my instincts much more than petty paranoia.

A flood of information flooded my head, showing what happened to the Viltrumite race. How they were 'forced' to cull the weak. How they made an empire with the strength they gained from the hundreds of years they spent purging and fighting each other. How the Coalition of Planets engineered a virus to kill Viltrumites. How it cut down 99.9% of the Viltrumite population. All of this information was in my head. All of it, just crammed in my head.

All of it was stifling.

The mini-needle disintegrated just like the hologram disk and I stood up, walking to my door; I had to get out and clear my head.

Walking into the hall and down the stairs I saw my mom, her blonde hair pulled into a tight ponytail as she trudged through the door, her suit creased with a dark stain on her white blouse. From the smell of it...coffee. She spilled her coffee over herself. Probably when she drove to work this morning from how dry it is.

My mother was a beautiful and brilliant woman. She had blonde hair, like mentioned before, but her main feature that brought people's attention were the emerald green orbs she had for eyes and the intelligence that practically made her eyes glint like LEDs.

But rather than beautiful, it would be best to stick to calling her brilliant--she's my mom after all.

She's a Government Agent. FBI Analyst, to be exact, and despite how 'funny' she finds me calling her a peeking tom for looking through people's webcams at them, she's pretty serious about her job. She's one of the best, according to the director who comes for lunch every now and then. So I guess that must be good, right?

But that's the problem with having such an intelligent mom: They notice things.

"Oh, hi, honey--" mom smiled at me but her smile quickly faltered when she must have seen my slightly pale face but when she rushed up to me and brought a hand to my ears, she surprised me. Her fingers had blood on them, "What happened, Jacob?! Are you okay?!" she urgently asked.

I wanted to answer her and get out of the house...but something stopped me and made me ask a question that had been at the back of my mind since I listened to the hologram on the disk.

"...Did you know I was going to be different, mom?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper but from how she froze and went as solid as a rock...I knew she heard me loud and clear.

"W-what do you mean--" she tried to act dumb but I just shook my head before pushing past her.

I opened the door before blasting off into the sky, flying through the air with such speed that I broke the sound barrier, exceeding the speed of sound by dozens of times without even really pushing myself too much.

I would go where I knew no one would bother me, so I took an incredibly deep breath - I could hold my breath for weeks at a time, fun fact, right? - and I sped up even further.

Where was I going?

To the Moon, obviously.
