11 Chapter 10

Severus Tobias Snape hated teaching. He also hated noise. And kids. Ironic that he ended up as a teacher.

That was one of the thing he never understood when it came to Dumbledore's decisions. He could have put Snape in some random tower and told him to make potions for the rest of his life and he probably could have lived with that.

But no, instead mister second coming of Merlin decided that Severus Snape, former terrorist, was better off spending his time with children.

Sure there were a few missions he had to go for the old man but those definitely were not worth dealing with kids, let alone teenagers. Not to mention he had to do it in Hogwarts, the place where he ended up in a crowd of people who would grow up to be terrorists and spent seven years getting bullied by James Potter and his marauder friends.

Ok, more like James Potter and Sirius Black. Lupin never did anything but that also included his responsibilities as a prefect and honestly there were times Snape forgot that Pettigrew actually existed.

But still, Hogwarts had not been a good place in his life. And neither had his home. Or anywhere he can remember.

Snape simply didn't have a nice life.

But the fact he was having a not nice life in Hogwarts as a teacher somehow made it worse.

At least this year's crop wasn't a disaster in potions. Except for Gryffindors but he never had a hope for them anyway.

He still remembered his early years as a teacher. They weren't fond memories. He had no idea what he had been doing for the first few weeks. Snape had been a prodigy in potions, a kind of talent that would appear once in a century that had somehow arrived twice since… she was also in his generation.

The point being he had been a genius in potions and that meant he had less than no idea how to teach basics. He didn't even understand why the basics had to be taught! He had somehow managed to make a proper teacher out of himself in his second year as a part of the Hogwarts faculty. If he didn't count all the dumb students he had to deal with.

Still, this year's batch looked like it had some potential. Especially Daphne Greengrass, whose family owned many potion based businesses, and… Jonathan Richards.

Snape was somewhat wary of having him in his class. He was one of the few people Dumbledore had talked about the dark lord's past and he was drawing some less than pleasant parallels. Orphans, talented and bright, not to mention looked like they had an instinctive control over their magics. But that wasn't what unnerved Snape, he could also see the kid actually trying to appear nice around people and Snape knew that the dark lord would never do that unless the people had connections that would be useful when it came to taking over the world and butcher innocents.

What unnerved Snape was the reaction the hat had to the young boy. He may have brushed it off when Minerva had talked about it but that was only because he didn't want to talk with her and Dumbledore any longer than he had to.

But he was a very talented Legillimens and a master of Occlumency, which made him a half master of the mind arts. So he knew exactly how powerful the enchantments on the Sorting Hat had on him to penetrate practically all defenses and it's reaction to the boy had been unnerving.

For a moment he had entertained the thought of trying to enter the boy's mind himself but then he remembered that the Sorting hat, a magical artifact with some of the most complex enchantments when it concerned mind arts placed inside it, had reacted quite negatively when it attempted to do so and Snape decided that he probably shouldn't put his mind anywhere that could receive a reaction like that from a magical artifact.

So he would just watch the boy from afar, discreetly.

…that sounded far too creepy even inside his head and Severus Tobias Snape needed a very strong drink and a shower.

<POV Return>

Potion class actually had been kinda fun. It was one of the classes where Hyperforce did not actually enter to the equation which made me feel like I was truly accomplishing something.

I was kinda expecting it to be some sort of torture to deal with since the books had portrayed Snape as a… less than pleasant man.

He still was but it seemed like he didn't let that fact disturb his teachings… unless your name was Harry Potter.

Speaking of Potter, I probably should spend some time with Violet. I wonder if she had made any friends lately.

Probably not since she seemed not exactly... social. I really needed to find out why exactly she was in such a state and how to deal with the Dursleys. Like dear heavens the girl was malnourished. Didn't those morons ever realize that a girl suffering like that was NOT normal. Was it some sort of result of this world being also a DC world.

Dear lord, I really hoped that they weren't part of some sort of secret society of witch hunters so that this world could have a proper tragic backstory fitting for a hero.

She was probably fine, being in Hogwarts meant she would be getting three fulfilling, if not always healthy, meals in order to put some meat on her bones and being around proper children her age should help her become more socially well adjusted.

So I was pretty sure she would be fine.

<POV Change>

Violet Potter was wondering whether she could get away with murder. She was technically a celebrity so it should be possible right?

Hopefully so because she had no other idea how to deal with the gossip loving girls and the ginger haired boy whose snores could probably be heard from the other side of the damn castle!
