3 Shoot

Two weeks have passed since that fateful moment. After the talk about me being a resource, I essentially was given two choices. Die in prison, or die in the outside world.

Even though I've only been in the white room for a little less than a day, I was ready to call quits. So obviously I chose the latter. And because of that choice, I'm currently in some sort of bootcamp.

The bootcamp was dangerously fun at times. They tested marksmanship with live ammo, and even some experimental ones. They've made me kill animals and sometimes humans. The tests all gave points depending on how well I did. I had a quota of points to meet for a week before my privileges got taken away.

What privileges you ask? The right to eat good food! The white room had some really good chefs that cooked anything I wanted.

But the marksmanship for example gave points based on the lethality of the shot. The lesser the chance of life, the greater the points. The points increased based on distance too.

But there was one aspect of the bootcamp that I hated with a passion. The health tests. The health tests have sucked a lot. They were painful for no reason. When they took out blood, they used the most efficient ways they could think of. They claimed that it was to increase my pain resistance but I had a sneaking suspicion that they enjoyed it.

On the side note, I finally had enough time to understand the system I possessed. It was essentially the same as the ones on the beginner wave of system novels. It didn't have any cultivation techniques or anime powers. It was closer to a game system than anything.

______

The system was weird, it let me level skills up by pouring experience into them. That was a way that cheated the normal 'use until it level' meta that everyone used.

I couldn't remember anything like it.

The system provided a store for skills, abilities, and even talents. Talents were crazy! My talent was the only reason that I could meet the quota for every week. It was a life savior.

______

Talent: Cataclysm

First attack, if critical, allows the attack to unleash a force 100% its max

Second arrack, if first attack hit, allows the attack to unleash a force 200% its max

Third attack, if chained together, allows the attack to unleash a force of 400% its max

First attack, if not critical, decreases the attack damage by 75%

Note: 20% chance of bypassing armour and dealing true damage

______

The talent was a life changer! It guaranteed a dead target if it hit the right area. It was a passive skill so it was used everytime. This brought the attention of the entire science community who were stationed at the bootcamp.

After days of contemplating, they labeled it as a meta-human ability that was manifesting. Hence me wearing the suicide collar.

It's been one year since I've been held captive by the government. And I've learned a lot of things. My stats went up by a bit and I've gotten some new skills. But most importantly, since my good attitude and such, I've been allowed to leave the white room.

I also have been given assignments. Which is where I am right now.

Just 1,250 meters from me was my target.

Santiago Merciao, a known weapons manufacturer that gave weapons to a US blacklisted rebel group. The rebel group has been known to resort to terroristic strategies to carry out their plans. That is one of the many reasons the government wanted him dead. That is the reason that allowed me to feel like a good person and not a homewrecker.

Haha, I'm stealing someone's husband alright. His wife looked cute on the file though.

I was currently on a high rise facing east towards the ocean. The target was there partying it up with naked ladies on his yacht. Little did he know that there was a trained hitman who intended to take his life.

Now, killing a target from that far was difficult. Heck hitting him was difficult. There were so many variables at that range. Ocean current, bullet drop, windage, spin drift, coriolis effect, etc.

Usually one needs time, calculations, and other stuff to make this shot. Thanks to the system, I just need calculations.

For example, most of the time, the target isn't gonna be exactly on the stated range distance. Most need a rangefinder. But when I accepted the mission, it already began to tell me how far the target was.

Currently the target was between 1,250-1,252 meters.

That saved me a lot of trouble not only physically but also mentally. It dissolved my doubts of guaranteed killing at this distance.

Next was the math for bullet drop.

x = vt - (CρAv^2t^2)/2m

X = horizontal range

V = muzzle velocity

T = flight time

M = mass

C= ballistic coefficient of the bullet

P = air density

A = cross-sectional area of the bullet

Next is calculating for wind...done

After that is calculating for the spin...done

Next is calculating for the coriolis effect. Since I'm shooting East, the bullet should fly higher...done.

Write all of that down...and bam! I'm ready to take a shot.

Okay it wasn't that simple. This took 20 minutes of number crunching to make sure that I didn't mess up with the numbers.

The Suppressed Barrett M82 snuggled close to my body as I adjusted for the shot. It had a max distance for 1,800 meters, well above the distance I needed.

The bullet should do around 240 damage off the bat. If I were to miss the critical...that'll be around 180. The target has about 40 health to begin with so any shot to him should kill him. But this wasn't a game. 'Theoretically' doesn't apply well to reality.

I closely started to study the wave movements. If the target went below my reticule, then I would be losing valuable time to readjust my shot. I needed to shoot when the waves looked calm.

But it was a wide open kill zone anyway. I had leeway in missing my shots at least twice before things got icky.

I wasn't expecting to kill first shot. Murphy's law held sway no matter the tides after all. So I wouldn't be surprised if I miss it at all. It would be quite unfortunate if it hit any of the ladies. Heck, I might get chewed out by Waller when I get back.

Speaking of which, with all the women around him, he had ample cover if he realized that he was about to get shot. So I would rather kill in one-shot.

The waves hit the yacht making it tip forward a bit. Not noticeable to the passengers but enough to mess with the aim. One of the ladies stroked the target's head before kissing him.

This happened for a hot minute and the man started to undress himself. If I let him do that, then the chances of a clean kill would go away.

I drew a breath and squeezed the trigger. After two seconds, the round hit the target in the base of the throat causing his head to come flying forward into the food bowl.

『You have dealt cataclysmic damage to Santiago Merciao | -480』

『You have killed Santiago Merciao | 2000 EXP』

『Mission Complete, report to Amanda B. Waller to collect the rewards』

It was a critical, making the damage exceed its original capacity. I swiped the notifications away sighing.

I was aiming for the chest...it seemed like the waves got hectic at the moment. Today the God of War shined its light upon me.

I quickly set down the sniper rifle and started to take it apart. The island security's ShotSpotter must've spiked at the moment so I had no time to lose.

I put the components into my briefcase and closed the hidden compartment. The rest of the space in the suitcase was conserved for clothing which was already there.

I picked up the case and I walked down the stairs. I've stayed in the hotel for four days with my 'dad'. My dad was already downstairs putting our belongings into the SUV. That was the cover if anything went wrong.

Surprisingly, nothing went wrong and we slipped away into the night. The death of the Weapons Manufacturer was never to be solved. They might even pin it on a terrorist group who were unsatisfied with the weapons. But it didn't concern me anymore.
