50 Library of Mages (10)

"We will act as decorations, only to make you look more important and powerful. But won't that put targets on our back? Not only will the enemy faction of the Flores family, but your other enemies will also target us." I said. From what I learned today, the families compete with each other both on the surface and in the shadows. There is a chance that some enemy family will try to attack us.

"Yes, you will be targeted. And the only two safe places are here, with the Flores family and in the University of Martial and Arcane Arts campus. And since you don't want to stay here, the only way is this will work is for you to stay there."

"The university?" Emily asked.

"Yes. There isn't anyone other than the MCA that will dare to attack the university, and they don't care about any family business. The only problem you may have is other students that are part of some family."

If that will be the case… then I feel confident about taking care of everyone that will try to attack us. If we make a mistake or won't pay attention, there is a chance we will be in danger. But if we agree… then Emily soon will be free of them.

"What do you think?" I asked Emily.

"If you are fine with that… then we should say yes."

It wasn't the worst deal. And was definitely beneficial to her. "We have a deal."

"Perfect!" He shouted. "Now, there is a small performance before the auction, and you, my friend, will make a debut! I'm aware that Emily is not strong enough yet, so today you will spar with someone. Let's go back to the party, it will start in a few minutes." After saying, so he turned around and left the room leaving the doors open.

"Why do I feel like I made a deal with the devil?" I said. Looking at the leaving 'devil' I had a feeling that there will be a lot of problems because of what we agreed to today.

"Let's go."

We went back to the party. A few minutes later the musicians left the stage, and the floor transformed, opening and revealing a small ring made of dirt. Then a few people approached the stage and put their hand on its stage. A transparent barrier rose up surrounding the stage and the ring inside of it.

Emily's father then walked to the front of the stage. "Welcome everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the part so far, if not I can promise you that things are going to get more exciting from now! As per tradition, we will have the younger generation of all families present here spar against each other. I won't bore you with a speech anymore so please welcome the first participants…"

The first spar with two Martial artists, one with water elemental essence another one with wind elemental essence. The fight lasted a few minutes as the two exchanged blows. Water bullets and wind blades were flying around the place, but the power behind them was not high.

Both fighters looked about a year older than me, which would make them second years. And comparatively, they would be slightly stronger then the second year I fought last time.

After the end of the fight, another one started, then another, an hour later and a few exciting fights it was my turn. My name was called out. At this point I changed the suit I came into sportswear pants and a t-shirt provided to me by the Flores family. On the back of the T-shirt was the crest of the family, a skull with roses in the eye sockets.

"Crush him." Before I entered the ring, I was told so by Emily's father. I didn't respond. My thoughts were now focused on the opponent that I had to face. He was the same age as me, but he wasn't the part of the university, he awakened in his family, and it was there that he trained. I couldn't tell how strong he would be, but I could see the arrogance in his eyes.

"Give up now. Someone like you has no chance." The moment I entered the ring these words left my opponents mouth.

"Someone like me?"

"Without a bloodline. You were not born in the Flores family, and wearing their crest doesn't change that fact." He said.

"… Your bunch is really the worst. And you are also stupid it seems."

"Say that again…" Fire rose from his body as his anger grew.

"I felt like vomiting watching this place, your elitist attitude really is stupid… I thought that I will only come here and quickly defeat you, but now I really want to crush you." I wasn't planning on doing this, but his attitude… as if I was nothing more then an ant. As if I was lesser then that idiot.

"You will die today!" he shouted as fire started spewing in my direction, his mouth moving without a break as he cast spell after spell creating a sea of fire in the ring. When I manifested my soul image, the sea of fire swallowed me whole!

But I felt nothing. Not even a bit of fire could penetrate my soul image. I walked out of the massive ball of fire that swallowed me. Now I could grasp his strength more or less. He was definitely stronger than a second year, but I feel like he was a little weaker then Lydia who is a fourth year.

With a grin, I walked towards him.
