6 CHAPTER SIX: I hate the prince

Samantha

I heard my mother talking to someone outside but I just assumed it's a merchant seeking the way to my father's workshop.

I sat on the wooden chair and amending my cloth that tore yesterday, it got torn when I fell, that gown is my favourite gown and I can't just throw it away.

My mother entered with Prince Terence and I stood when I saw him, he's looking hot as ever in his knight uniform, that cloth that I aspire to wear one day.

"Go pack your things Sam, you are going with the prince" my Mom said and I asked with a nervous chuckle praying she isn't driving at what I'm thinking. What I fear will happen one day.

"Go where mother?" I asked her

"You have to stay in the palace now, for your safety" my mother says and my eye widened. I doubt if she knows what she's saying, I'm her only child, my father hardly stays at home, who will keep her company and help her with the house work. I thought.

"But_" I tried to object but she glared at me, I slowly went to my room and I packed my clothes, I took my journal and my books, I didn't leave out my ink bottle and my pen.

I saw my mom behind me and I just stared at her.

"I'm sorry" she said, close to tears.

"I don't want to leave you mother" I said dejectedly

"You have to, the prince is going to take good care of you"

"And who is going to take good care of you? Who will keep your company and help you out, don't let me go mother " I pleaded.

"Your father will throw a fit if he finds out you refused the Prince, he's your husband to be, you belong to him" she said calmly

"I don't want to belong to anyone mother, I don't want to marry the Prince" I pleaded as I went closer.

"I'm your mother Sam, this is the best thing for you, the king wants you to marry his son, you can't refuse him" she said as she caressed my cheek.

"Mother!" I wailed and tears streamed down my face, she smiled and wiped my tears, we went back out and I embraced my mother, I'm really going to miss her.

Terence carried me by my waist and dropped me on his horse, he mounted and we rode to the palace, after greeting the king and queen, he took me to my room. I know any human bring would kill to stay in the palace, a part of me know it's an honour to live in the palace and get to dine with the king and queen but the thought of getting married rather than pursuing  my dream of being a knight brings weariness in my heart .

We entered the room I guess to be mine.

"Do you like it?" He asked and I nodded without even checking it out

"You didn't even look at it" he said and I checked the room out and bowed again before nodding. He came closer and turned me to face him.

"You are upset?" He said and i didn't say anything, I just kept staring at the floor

I only did this to protect you, I didn't mean to separate you from your mother" he said soothingly and I can't help but shed tears after remembering my mother again, he raised my chin again to make me look at him and wiped my tears. I immediately look down after meeting with his bright blue eyes.

"She... She will be all alone with no one to help her, father is always busy in the workshop" i said and he wiped my tears

"I assure you she'll be fine, I will send people to help her out with the chores, you don't have to worry" he said and sat me down. "Just relax and join us for supper soon" he said and i nodded. He left the room after glancing at me. I checked the room again, it beautiful! It's decorated in a princess like way, a wardrobe  a table with books and a dressing table  with different combs, hairclip, make up and other things to adorn the hair and other things women use. I took my journal, my ink bottle and my pen from my bag. I sat in the chair and poured out my mind.

If only someone can ask me what I really want, they just decide what's best for me and control how I live my life, I'm marrying the prince against my wish and I hope to spend the rest of my unmarried life with my mother, taking care of her but that has been taken from me again.  The prince only cares about himself and does things irrespective of my feelings, he took me away from my mother, he keeps directing my life like a puppet. I  wish he never existed! I wish my father had been rewarded with something else. I wish I was never betrothed to the prince, I hate him, I I feel absolutely nothing for him but complete hatred.

There's still hope and I believe I can do it, I have to stop the marriage from taking place. I have to stop it.

I wiped my tears and closed my Journal when i heard a knock.

"Come in" I said and a young lady about my age entered the room.

"I'm Amanda, I'm your hand maid, I'm to attend to your personal needs milady" she said with her head bowed.

"I'm Samantha" I said faintly

"Yes milady, I know that"

"I'm just Samantha, no title" I said nervously, I feel uncomfortable being addressed like a noble, I'm just a commoner.

I looked up and saw the Lady staring at me, I gave her a faint smile.

"Just call me Sam" I said and she looked around.

"I... can't do that milady, I'm just a maid here, I dare not call out the name of the Prince's fiancée" she said.

"I should have known, no one ever listens to me or do what I want" I said to myself but she heard me.

"I apologize milady but I really can't do that, Prince Terence will have me punished" she said nervously.

"It's my name not the Prince's" I noticed she's not ready to oblige. "Fine then! I don't want someone who doesn't listen to me, I'm telling that to the prince when he gets here" I threatened even though I'm not going to do that. She went on her kneels with her head bowed.

"Forgive me miss, I'll do whatever you say" she pleaded and I sprang up, I pulled her up.

"Hey! I didn't mean that" I said with a chuckle and she let out a sigh of relieve.

"Please call me Sam" I said and she nodded with a smile.

She wanted to help me arrange my things but I told her not to bother, she left and I sat back. After a while, I heard a knock and Terence told me it's time for supper, I joined them and I won't deny that the meal was fantastic and I enjoyed every bit of it.
