Chapter 2: The Unexpected Journey

Hours of walking in silence, not that she didn't mind, had her wondering where he was taking her. She opened her mouth a few times to ask, but closed it, in case he didn't answer her, or he might insult her again. But she realized that she didn't mind being insulted anyway, it didn't mean a thing to her. She watched as his back muscles shifted, even beneath his clothes, she could see how powerfully built he was. Swift, animal like and powerful. What was he?

They eventually stopped for the night, and he'd leaned against a tree, pulling his hood over his head, and crossed his long, muscled legs, arms crossed over his chest. Eyes closed or not, she didn't know. She looked around, and softly announced that she wanted to relieve herself, and came back, setting out her bedroll and fell right to sleep.

By first light she was up, seeing that he had moved from his spot against the tree and was eating an apple, clean of all that black blood that coated him the previous day. And that's when she saw his ears...long and pointed...he was Fae. She stood up and he tossed her an apple, to which she grumbled a thanks and bit into it. She packed her bedroll and they began their walk, only stopping when she needed a toilet break and continued in complete silence.

Five days later by nightfall, they seemed to have reached a village, millions of little lights blinking in the darkness as they stood atop a cliff, looking down at the town. He continued to climb down the slope, but she made a small noise to stop him, making him turn to look at her with a raised eyebrow.

"Is there a problem?" he growled at her.

"Shouldn't we keep off the road? Just so that we don't run into guards or something," she said.

"Even if we do, what are you hiding girl?" he asked.

"Nothing," she snapped at him. She glared at him and he at her, until he turned and walked on. She didn't have a choice but to follow him wordlessly.
