1 Ceremony

On the planet Trivon, a small village began to make preparations for the naming day ceremony, every year the kingdom would send its representatives to see the souls that the villagers would receive. The village was small it didn't even have a minor lord to look over their affairs. Most of the houses were made out of clay, while there was one house in the middle of the city made out of stone. Every child that had turned fourteen that year would be there to attend, those who did not attend would eventually develop their abilities in a year or two without the ceremony. Keri a small girl lived in a clay house outside the village she did miscellaneous jobs for the villagers here and there. She had curled and matted jet black hair, with dark grey eyes and ivory skin.

Keri didn't mind working for the village she had been adopted sisters Bria and Nivini they had looked over her as she grew up. Bria was about thirty years old, she had a weak soul power cultivation which allowed her to grow plants at a faster rate. While Nivini who was fourty was a forecaster who could see storms and other types of weather before they formed. Although their abilities weren't strong they helped out keeping the village well fed with good crops year after year.

Most of the villagers had weaker souls, except for one or two people that had returned from the wars. The Duland kingdom would take the most powerful souls from villages and appropriate them to certain areas in the kingdom. Bria had been brought over from another village because North Kindle had lost their last Cultivist. Nivini had not wanted her sister to be alone so she came with her and North Kindle was more then happy to have a Forecaster join their small village too.

Bria and Nivini had taken in Keri after a group of hunters had found her in a basket out near the bottom of the mountain. The hunters wanted to send the child into the kingdom's plannery a place where children were sent until their soul powers were found. The kingdom gave a small reward depending on the soul these children were born with. The only problem was the planneries were as rough places and some children did not make it to their ceremonial day.

Bria who had just arrived at the village didn't want the child to be sent away so she begged for her and her sister to be able to take care of Keri. In the end Bria gave up a silver piece to the hunter who had brought her in. Which was more than then the average of fifty coppers that people were paid to send the children to the planneries. Keri left the clay hut it was her ceremony today although she might have been fifteen or sixteen this was her fourteenth year living in North Kindle. Bria had left her some food with a little note saying not to forget to make it to her ceremony at noon time in the village square.

"Ready for your big day?" Nivini appeared behind her quickly siting next to her she had straight blonde hair with olive skin and blue eyes. "Make sure to wash up we have your hair looking like this when you go up there today." She said looking at the knots in Keri's hair.

Keri rolled her eyes and said, "Fine." After getting ready they left to the center of the village together Nivini was a little bit out of it on their way out she was like this when her soul was looking at the weather in the future.

As they moved towards village they passed by the hunters hut Richtor the hunter whom had found her was working on his blade and nodded at them. "Morning." He said greeting them both as they passed. "May the Great Father bless you today little one." Then he went back to working on his blade.

Once they made it to the village the festivities had been set up banners and streamers were attached to many of the small houses. There had even been a peddler that had come into town to set up a small fireworks display. The ceremony festival was an impressive show, Keri was hoping a for a small soul augment that way she could stay close to Nivini and Bria. Although she sometime did dream of having the amazing powers of people like Lockhart the Channeler who had the ability to change anything around him into powerful weapons, or maybe Divia the Scorcher who had used the power of her fire soul to destroy the marauders from Tyr and saved the city of Chandra.

She had heard the exploits of all the powerful soul masters that had saved countless cities along the kingdom and was of course as a child she would pretend to be these heroes. Now that her ceremony was here she had to think about how she could help her village. There were about two hundred people gathered for the ceremony most of the village had come out to see the event. This year she would be joined by Vira a tall skinny girl with white hair and blue eyes and Jacob which was the smithies son who had a very heavy muscles short spiky black hair and blue eyes. Mostly everyone here in the village had blue eyes and for that reason she had not made very many friends with her weird grey eyes.

She only had two friends that were around her age Trevor who was a small skinny boy that was a year younger than her and Helen the Mayor's younger daughter who was two years younger than her. As for Vira and Jacob she got along with both of them but didn't really have that good of a relationship with them. Vira, Jacob and Keri were sent to the middle of the square where the members of the Holy church of Vestia the Great Mother were waiting for them they had begun the ritual chanting. Keri feeling quiet nervous looked around and caught sight of Bria. Somehow her nervousness vanished when she caught sight of her.

She had to wake up extra early to check on the villages crops just to make it in time to see her for the ceremony. She smiled and waved at Bria who smiled back at her, then she got to her place as the ceremony went on.

The priests continued until they called up Vira to be the first on to her soul began to flare up as one of the priest touched her temple a growing golden light enveloped her then her soul changed into a light blue color. A low soul grade from what Keri could tell it was the ability to control water on a small scale a Stream is what they called them they were to water certain things. A Vira left she looked a bit disappointed, but it was rare to get anything other than a low grade soul.

Next was Jacob his soul began to flare as the priest continued the ceremony when the glowing light enveloped him this time the light that came out was a light red. A Soul Crafter now that was a rare talent but it was only low grade that was too bad. As a Soul Crafter one could put there soul into things that they could make giving these items powerful abilities. Everyone from the village began to cheer this would be especially for the village now that they could craft soul items. This would make their small village especially popular probably making its population grow.

Finally it was Keri's turn to go up she sat before the member of the church who was chanting then the golden light began to envelope her. Soon her body felt a jolt of energy something coming she could feel an explosion of energy leave her body. Soon anything within twenty feet of her was covered in Grey clouds with black spots. This meant she was well..... she didn't know nobody had told her of this soul before. She could hear gasps coming from the villagers and some of the members of the church could not hide the shock that filled their faces....

Finally the man that was chanting exclaimed, "She is a Duskstorm, one of the duskborn, a Dark Soldier...."
