23 Demon of Purgatorial Flames [Rewritten]

The soldiers had gained their resolve to fight. Agiel was grateful to Sagremor which sparked the flames within the humans' heart. In contrast, the humans hesitated for a moment after Sagremor gave his talk. However, after a short moment, a voice came from the humans' radios.

It sounded to be words of courage or something. Even though from a distance Agiel could hear those words of a human. That was because Agiel including all other creations possess superhuman hearing to a certain extent. And that extent was not too great.

He knew not what could be the reason why his master sought to assault this town which possessed nothing interesting at all.

There might be a chance that the reason why his master fought these humans did not lay unto this town, but rather perhaps it was a test of strength. Since his master sent his summoned minions, the master stated that it was just all a test for his minions.

Then this could be very well a test of the guardians' abilities, and likely also that his master wanted to test his own abilities. That had to be it. When Agiel investigated this town fortress, there was nothing which caught his eye nor attention.

How could I have not thought about it sooner?

It was just a simple, very simple goal. Anyone could have thought about that. Agiel felt ashamed for not grasping his own master's intentions.

I need to think better next time. The intellect the master gave to me would be put to waste.

Agiel believed his high intellect and knowledge all came from his master. That was certainly the case because there would be no other source of wisdom. In that case, then his master could very well be smarter than him.

I am looking forward to the future that the master would show his genius. It wouldn't be too bad to learn from him.

Agiel gazed at the puny human soldiers pointing their weapons at him. They were insignificant, indeed, even their puny weapons were insignificant.

Well, this could be a good way to gain experience in the battlefield. I haven't really used my powers, so this is a good opportunity.

Agiel was quite worried at first that the humans appeared to have no intention to fight them. The humans were afraid. Thankfully, everything ended up well in the end. If it didn't turn out this way, their master would have been unsatisfied. After all, basing on Agiel's observation, he figured that his master might have wanted them to fight back.

That would be essential if the goal was a test of strength.

The humans pulled the trigger of their weapons and countless hot leads and magical projectiles flew straight towards Agiel. Of course, all of those attacks were rendered ineffective. The hot leads fell down the ground before they could touch the fabric of his clothes and his skin, the magic projectiles merely vanished like bubble.

As expected, the soldiers were dumbstruck after witnessing all that. However, in spite of that, they didn't halt their attack. Even as fear had taken a grip of their hearts and soul, they didn't falter.

Agiel smirked and as his red fiery eyes coldly gazed at the wasted efforts of the humans behind the mask.

Then a big explosion suddenly erupted in one part of the human defenses. It was quite a strong explosion which blew a wind enough to blast off a thick cloud of dust in the air.

Agiel precisely knew whose magic that was.

He turned to look at the caster.

Such overwhelming power for a small body. She could pretty well destroy this entire town without even breaking a sweat.

He thought as he gazed at a little girl who possessed fearsome power before returning his sight to the humans in front of him.

Then, he cast a spell of his.

"[Hands of Punishing Blaze]."

Red thick flames engulfed his hand.

The flames were blazing calmly which was not in sync with the wind. It was as though the winds didn't bother to disturb those flames. Then, those flames were on his hands, this bizarre scene caused a surprise among the soldiers.

"Cry in the flames of purgatory."

As he coldly said that, he flourished his arm to the side. With it, a wide wave of red flames came forth from his arm's motion. The flames spread across the barrier and sandbags that made up the defenses of the soldiers.

Then, as the humans touched even just a little of those flames, they received a taste of purgatory.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!"

"WAAAAUUUGGHH!!"

"AAAAAAAARRRRRHHHH!"

Different types of screams and cries echoed across the land. Those screams were so loud that it seemed like they were shouting way past their limits. No need to question, those type of screams signified great torment.

All of the soldiers who touched the flames even in the slightest was engulfed completely by the flames which existed only in the purgatory, the flames of punishment. The flames which cleansed the soul through unimaginable suffering.

And this unimaginable suffering was evident on the expressions of the soldiers. They squirmed, rattled, held their own bodies in the unimaginable pain they felt.

That said, they were not burning. There was not a single burnt on their bodies nor their clothes were burned as flames engulfed them.

It was as though they were only suffering mentally. Well, that was the case. Or perhaps to be more precise, their soul was the one that was on fire. Like in the story about the purgatory, it was a place where the soul was cleansed, then the same thing happened to these soldiers. Instead of their vessels that were to burn, it was their soul. Even so, they felt the pain so clearly. The torture, the agony, the great suffering.

Then shortly after, they fell lifelessly to the ground as their spark of life was taken away from them through the flames of punishment. In other words, they died. Died as their body remained fully intact, if one was to investigate their bodies, that one would be completely confused.

Agiel moved forward and jumped over the barriers which blocked his way.

There again, even though they saw the torment on the faces of their comrades, more human soldiers engaged the Demon of Purgatorial Flames.

As though wasn't bothered by the countless projectiles, Agiel once again waved his hand and red flames spread once again.

"AAAAAHH!"

"PRRRURUURR!!"

"AAAAAAUUUUUUUUUHHHHH!!"

Intense cries once again reached the ears of the soldiers all around.

Just like what happened previously, the burning soldiers merely limply fell to the ground.

Then a soldier suddenly began shooting Agiel from the back. In response, Agiel turned around to face that valiant soldier.

As the soldier had come face to face with the demon, the soldier shrugged in fear. He began to tremble to the point that he can no longer hold his weapon. He never thought that being face to face with a true devil would make him act that way. This just affirmed that nothing will be truly fearsome unless you met it face to face.

Due to the overwhelming fear overtaking his entire body, the soldier dropped his weapon from his uncontrollably trembling hands. He took a step back with shaking legs, as he tried to run away, due to his weak legs and rough landscape, he fell to the ground and his face met the ground.

Then the worst thing happened. Before he could even manage to lift himself up, someone instead lifted him up. This could absolutely never be called helping, for his head was being clutched tightly. At the moment he made contact to whichever it was clutching his head, flames engulfed his body.

The soldier's body rattled and twisted and drooling saliva from his mouth as he was bathed in unimaginable agony. Shortly, he stopped moving, then Agiel casually threw him away like a piece of trash.

Then Agiel observed his surroundings.

There's still numerous of them.

There was indeed a lot of them, from within this field and unto the walls.

Agiel turned to look at the cannons above the walls.

They're not using those huh. Hm well of course, if they attack us with those, they will undoubtedly also hit their allies.

As he thought that, a single bullet hit him.

… That attack just now… it felt strong. The first that happened this moment, it felt like it almost damaged by protection. Doesn't matter, it's still not strong enough to damage the barrier.

Moving on from that thought. Agiel continued on spreading the flames of punishment.

And this was the Agiel, the Demon of Purgatorial Flames. The one who passes unimaginable suffering towards those who deserved it. The dangerous demon that if other demon came to hear his name, fear will start to crawl within their soul and tell themselves that it would be better to die in the hands a mere human rather than this demon which possessed the flames of punishment.
