4 Chapter 3: The Trials of a King 2/9

"Ugh, why can't you kings just make a long series of rooms that I can just walk through? All of these transports are giving me a head ache." When Dante finished complaining he looked around to see that he was in a colosseum, there were four rows of stands and at the south end there was a balcony with a figure looking down at him. "Well with all of this I assume this must be the trial of the conqueror also known as the champion king. So, am I going to be doing a tournament or do you have something special in mind?" Dante looked at the figure with his arms spread out in a questioning pose. When the figure came into a clear view Dante could see that the king took the form of Gladious from FFXV. He was a tall guy, around 6'2 with a broad build. He had messy black hair and a large scar that traced in two lines, one across his forehead and the other across his left eye. "Hahaha, you truly are an interesting one. You are correct this is the trial of the conqueror. A king must be able to stand tall against all odds regardless of the numbers. In this trial you will withstand the waves of foes against you, there are 5 waves, but each wave will have more enemies. The first wave will have 10, the second 30, the third 50, the fourth 70, and the last 100, finally during the last wave the 100th foe will be the final boss of the challenge. Be warned you can only use the weapons you have claimed so far, and you will have a 1-minute break to recover, do you understand?" The king looked at Dante and when he saw the latter nod four large metal gates appeared at the north, south, east, and west ends of the colosseum. Dante pulled out Ebony and Ivory and prepared himself as the gates opened. The first thing he saw were a group of 5 dog-like creatures, but they were scrawny and had no fur, they also had sharp tusk on their lower jaws. 'Saber tusk, a good warm up.' When the beast saw Dante two ran to flank him while the other three charged straight at him. "Not today." Dante started firing at the two 'dogs' that were trying to flank him, his aim was spot on and it only took three shots per dog to finish them off, one in the tusk, one in the eye to knock it off balance and one in the heart via the exposed belly. With the first two finished off Dante dropped his guns as they re-entered his body and pulled out Rebellion, when the first dog came within range Dante flipped over it while dragging his sword down its back severely hurting it causing it to stumble and fall down unable to get up, but Dante wasn't done yet. He used his momentum to kick the one to his left while grabbing the throat of the other slamming I down snapping it with the force. The one that was kicked recovered and charged Dante. Dante just gave a deadpan face and when it jumped at him he slid under while using his sword to bisect it. He shouldered his sword and used his open hand to pull out Ebony and finish off the first one. When he looked behind him he saw the door opening and he could see 5 more Saber tusks, giving a determined look he charged to meet them, and it ended similar to the first five, but he managed to finish them all off with only one strike each. "Well done, you are much better than I originally anticipated. You have another minute before I send the next wave, keep in mind I will be using different creatures in the next round." Dante gave the king a nod and sat down still holding Rebellion.

When the 1-minute break was over Dante stood up and prepared himself. This time the north and east gates opened up at the same time. What came out this time made him tense up because one from the north gate he saw a group of 10 of gator-like creatures, but they were all white and had fins on the head, arms, legs, and going down the spine. From the east gate he saw a group of 10 wasp the size of the average pit-bulls. "Well, let's get this over with shall we." Dante stood up and stabbed Rebellion into the ground and pulled out Ebony and Ivory as he looked towards the east gate, he fired dozens of bullets that all hit their mark, slowly the wasp dropped to the ground. To Dante's displeasure he heard the howls of more saber tusk coming from the gate, around ten of them. "I wonder if he made this test specifically to be a pain in my ass. Well nothing I can do about it but get serious." Dante put his pistols away and grabbed Rebellion and charged the gators. When the gators saw his charge, they started shooting out streams of pressurized water and Dante could tell that it could cut through flesh like a hot knife through butter and dodged them. Seeing that their volley of water cannons didn't work the gators tried to trap Dante with their powerful jaws. Dante ran through the gators without even getting his clothes nicked when he dodged them. "My turn," when he turned around Dante put Rebellion away and pulled out Yamato for the first time. Dante pulled the katana from its scabbard and took a stance, he sliced towards the gators and when he did blades of energy would form. Not thinking anything of the attack the gators fearlessly charged Dante, this proved to be a fatal mistake. When the blades of energy met the gator leading the charge the gator was sliced to pieces and it took the gator's body to even realize it was dead. The other gators stopped dead in shock at what happed to their ally, but Dante didn't give them room to breathe and sent volleys of energy blades at the defenseless gators. Soon the group was reduced to piles of sliced meat, but surprising the saber tusk, the king, and even Dante, when the blades made their way through the gators they continued and shredded the saber tusk in the process. Dante looked at Yamato with a satisfied smile and sheathed it and clipped it to his waist. Looking at the king Dante said, "After this break can you send the remaining waves at me all at once? I want to finish this quickly." The king gave Dante a long look before giving a sigh, "Very well, you are much stronger than I thought. After this 1-minute break I will send the remaining 220 enemies at you but be warned I am going to up the difficulty and leave the gates open meaning any number can come at any time. Are you okay with this?" Dante gave the king a smile and a satisfied nod before sitting down.

When the break was up Dante heard all of the gates open and from within, he heard slithers, barks, growls, howls, and other noises that had it been anyone else including one of the kings they would be sweating and praying for something or someone to save them, but Dante? He was smiling like a 5-year-old child that was just told he could have whatever he wanted from the candy store. The first thing to pop out was a large dog from the south gate, but unlike normal dogs it had three heads, one breathing fire, one ice, and one sparks of electricity. Dante had a smirk on his face as he charged the beast. When it breathed fire, Dante dodged to the right then continued his charge. The other heads sent similar attacks until he was right in front of it, all three heads sent torrents of fire, ice, and electricity, but Dante just jumped up to avoid it. Now on the beast's back he stabbed Yamato into its spine to immobilize it, this made the dog collapse and fall down. Dante still with a smirk on his face put away Yamato and replaced it with Rebellion, not giving the beast a chance to defend itself Dante removed the left and right head and looked the middle one in the eyes. "You picked the wrong Fido. Maybe you can win in the next life." Done talking to the beast he stabbed it in the head killing it. Looking around and gave a smirk at the hordes of beast. There were some he recognized and some he didn't, but Dante wasn't afraid, "Well I still have things to do so let's rap this up. So, who's next?"
