148 Chapter 135: A Ronin & Hime Walk Into A Room
(Morax: POV)
Looking at the situation in front of me I was not only at a loss for words, but also felt a massive headache coming on.
'How did things end up so bad so quickly?' I thought.
When the day started off just fine.

-Flashback-
Sitting behind my desk in my office I waited.
Along with Athena who is sitting on one of the couches in the room.
Since today we are interviewing a potential new member to join our familia.
Which rarely happens.
But not for lack of initiative on our part.
Our familia actually gets tons of applications from people wanting to join each and every day. The average number is at least 20 per day.
But given all the secrets our familia has we can't just let anyone join. We also need someone whose own ideals are closely in line with our familia's overall.
So taking that and other factors into account, the pool of potential applicants shrinks significantly.
Then even if we do take an interest in an applicant we still need to interview them as the final step.
Which a lot of them fail.
I wonder if today's applicant will be different?
Guess I'm about to find out.
A few more moments passed before I heard a knock on my office door.
"Come in." I said.
When I did so the door opened, and Diluc stepped through it.
Following behind him is today's applicant.
A young man with indigo-colored hair who from what his application said hails from the Far East.
His name is Sasaki Kojirou.
As Sasaki stepped into my office I observed him, and could immediately tell a couple of things.
First off, he's seen combat. Not just against monster but people.
People who've taken another's life have this certain look in their eyes. I should know since I am in that category.
Secondly, I can tell he is a skilled warrior.
The nodachi sword on his back isn't just for show. He knows how to use it.
Finally, I get the sense he would be a good fit for the familia.
But of course I'll keep that to myself until the interview is over.
Sasaki moved to take a seat on the couch opposite of Athena.
Once he did so Diluc left the room, closing the door behind him as he did so.
The moment after he did so I stood up and moved to sit beside on Athena.
While she observed Sasaki, with a blank expression on her face. But a calm and calculating look in her eyes.
As for Sasaki his expression is also blank. But he is sizing the two of us up as well.
A few seconds passed in utter silence, before Athena decided to break it.
"Hello there." She said.
Putting a smile on her face.
"I am Athena, and seated next to me is the captain of my familia. Morax Lapis." She explained.
"A pleasure to meet you both. I am Sasaki Kojirou." He said.
"Well, now that introductions are out of the way lets get this interview started." I said. "First off Sasaki, why do you want to join our familia?" I asked him.
"I am looking for some stability." He said.
"Elaborate please?" Athena asked.
"Back in my homeland the Far East I was part of a familia. But it fell into ruin and our god abandoned us." He explained. "Once that happened I decided to leave that please and became a wandering mercenary. A Ronin is what it is called in my homeland. Eventually I arrived here in Orario and decided to join another familia. As for why I chose yours, it's because I heard you protect those that can't protect themselves and ask for nothing in return."
"It's true." Athena said.
"I want to do that as well." Sasaki spoke. "As such, please allow me to join your familia?"
"You know we have secrets." I said. "Do you think you will be able to keep them if you join us?"
"As long as they do not go against my morals or own personal beliefs I shall." He explained.
"What level are you?" Athena asked.
"Three. Just as I stated on my application." Sasaki spoke.
"If I were tell you to kill someone without a reason, would you do so?" Athena asked.
"Never." Sasaki said. "Unless my own life, the lives of innocents are threatened, or I have a very good reason I will never simply raise my blade to strike a person down." He explained.
"Alright, I'm sold." Athena said. She then looked at me. "Morax?"
"I have no objections and nothing to add." I said.
Smiling Athena then looked at Sasaki.
"Well that concludes the interview and I'm happy to say welcome to our familia Sasaki." Athena said.
"Thank you lady Athena. I promise I will live up to your familia's name." He said.
After he did so I excused myself from the room while Athena bestowed Sasaki with her falna.
Only a few minutes passed before they both came out of my office.
"Well, now that you are officially part of the familia let me show you around our home. The Owl House." I explained to our newest recruit.
"Yes, I would be most delighted if you would captain." Sasaki said.
Once he did so I started showing him around.
From the male dorms, to the where the female dorms began, to the kitchen, to the bathrooms, and everything else in between.
Until eventually we ended our tour in the living room.
Where William is losing badly in a game of chess against Ryner.
Ryuu and Echidna observing and waiting for their turns to play against my best friend.
Turns out Ryuu, Echidna, and William are pretty decent at the game of chess. While Ryner has loved it ever since we were kids.
As for me I'm alright, but nowhere near the level of those four.
"Checkmate." Ryner said.
Defeating William.
"Dammit, once more." William said.
"No way, it's my turn now." Echidna spoke.
Then she turned her attention to the two of us. Along with the others.
"Oh hello Morax, and who is that you have with you?" Echidna asked.
"He's Sasaki Kojirou. Our newest familia member." I explained.
"A pleasure to meet you all." Sasaki said.
"Another pretty boy." William grumbled.
"A pleasure to meet you Sasaki, my name is Ryner." Ryner spoke.
"I am Ryuu Lion." Ryuu told him.
"And I am Echidna Dona." Echidna spoke. "If you want we can go and get to know each other "really" well." She said. Licking her lips after she did so.
Sasaki chuckled at this.
Then just as he was about to answer Rogue walked into the room, Kaguya at his side.
"Hey you two." I said to them. "I would like you to meet our newest familia me"
I stopped speaking when I suddenly felt intense bloodlust emanating from Sasaki.
Turning towards him I saw his gaze directed at Kaguya, a look of pure anger in his eyes.
I got ready to speak, but before I could Sasaki already had his blade drawn and closed the distance to Kaguya.
His weapon going towards her neck.
But the second after this happened Kaguya unsheathed her own blade Habigana, and started swinging it towards Sasaki.
The both of them stopping after their blades touched the others neck, small trickles of blood leaking out from both of them.

Now here we are.
No one moved or said a word as Sasaki and Kaguya held their weapons, poised to kill one another.
More so in Sasakis' case, since Kaguya is only defending herself since he decided to just up and attack her out of nowhere.
"What the fuck do you think you are doing?" Rogue asked Sasaki in a cold voice.
"I'm am going to get rid of this Gojou scum!" Sasaki spat.
"Don't call me that. I am simply Gojouno now." Kaguya coldly told Sasaki. A dark look in her eyes.
"Like I would believe one from the clan who destroyed my familia." Sasaki retorted.
'Now I see.' I thought.
It seems Kaguya's clan was responsible for destroying Sasaki's original familia.
Which is why he wants to kill Kaguya.
At least now I know the reason he decided to attack her out of the blue.
Still, that doesn't help with the current situation one bit.
And if things continue as they are Sasaki is going to end up dead. Since Kaguya is a level five.
Which I don't want to happen.
"Both of you, put your weapons down, now." I spoke.
However neither of them moved at my words.
"Did you not hear Morax. Put your weapons down. Now."
I heard Athena say in an authoritative and commanding voice.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw her standing at the entrance to the living room, a stern expression on her face.
A few seconds passed after Athena spoke, but both Kaguya and Sasaki finally lowered their weapons away from each other.
"Good. Now then, let's discuss this matter like civilized people." Athena said.
Me silently thanking her for getting a handle on the situation before it went from bad to worse.
Now we just need to keep it that way.
