140 Chapter 127: Assassins

(Morax: POV)

A smile on my face I entered the Pantheon, the headquarters of the Guild. Ryuu, Ryner, Ariane, Haruhime, and William beside me.

We just finished up a day in the dungeon and came to exchange the magic stones we collected for valis.

I also get to see Rose, which is why I'm smiling. Since I love seeing my girls.

Our group got in her line and then no time at all we reached the front. Getting a usual "I don't give a crap" glare from Rose. Even though we all know she's soft in the inside.

Me especially.

"Hello, my darling Rose." I said. "Are you doing well? Anyone giving you trouble? If they did just let me know and I'll make sure it will never happen again." I explained.

Placing our bag filled with magic stones in the counter as I did so.

"Today was fine. And I got no trouble I can't handle." Rose said. As she exchanged our magic stone for a sack of valis.

"I see. I see. That's good to know. Anyway, we still on for tomorrow night?" I asked. Since that is when I am taking Rose on a date.

"Yeah." Rose said.

"Great to know." I said.

I then leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.

"Hii! Captain, what are you doing?" Haruhime asked.

Turning to look at her I saw her completely red in the face.

"I'm just giving Rose a kiss." I explained. Since Haruhime has met Rose before. She is her guild advisor after all.

Even though Rose didn't want to be. After I had a chat with her and gave her some good loving she changed her mind.

Not that I'm bragging or anything.

Nope, not at all.

"Why are you doing that though. I thought you were with miss Ryuu?" Haruhime asked.

That's when I realized none of us have told her I have a harem.

"The thing is Haruhime, it's an adult matter that should best be explained in private. So when we get home Ryuu and the other girls will tell you all about it." I explained.

Since I am not going to be the one to explain a harem to Haruhime.

"Eh?!" Ryuu said.

I then moved closer to her and whispered in her ear. "Don't worry. You'll do fine. Besides, the other girls will be right there with you when you explain things to Haruhime." I said. I leaned back. "Alright, let's head home."

Then right after I did so I noticed Eina out of the corner of my eye.

She's cut her hair, and now she looks like she originally does during canon. Which means her first assigned adventurer Maris is dead.

May her soul rest in peace.

"Morax, why are you staring at Eina?" Rose said.

Looks like she caught me.

"Oh no reason. She just seems different is all." I said.

"Yeah, well her first adventurer recently died." Rose spoke.

"I see." I said.

"Yeah." Rose retorted.

"Well bye. See you tomorrow." I said.

Since there was nothing more to say about the matter. As an adventurer and with Rose being an advisor we understand the situation well enough not to dwell on it.

The only thing we can do is accept it and move on.

Arriving outside the door to Roses' home I knocked.

Dressed in casual clothing I waited for her to answer.

Which she did a moment later. Dressed in black pants, black boots, and a nice v-neck scarlet long-sleeve top that hugs her curves in all the right places and gives me a stellar view of her cleavage.

Stepping out Rose locked her front door, and then took my hand.

After she did so we were off.

Our destination, a nice restaurant I managed to find the other day during one of our daily patrols called 'Rueben's Thick & Juicy Meat'.

Turns out it's a pretty popular couples spot.

Despite its super sus name.

Which is why I am taking Rose their tonight. Especially since one of her hobbies is eating at new restaurants and then trying to re-create the dishes at home herself.

Hand-in-hand the two of us walked through the city streets illuminated by the lanterns. As we did this several men and women started undressing Rose and me with their eyes. But we both ignored them and continued on our way.

Until eventually we reached our destination.

Though thankfully is was not crowded.

Going up to the waiter stand we immediately got a table.

We then started looking over the menu and as we did so I understood why Rueben's had its name. All of their dishes had some sort of meat component to them. From the soups, to the salads, to the entrees. Every single one of them had some form of meat.

And they were feeling.

When Rose and I left the restaurant we had satisfied smiles on our faces.

"That was great. Thanks for that Morax." Rose said.

"Of course. A man needs to treat his ladies well. Otherwise they will leave him without a second thought." I said. A smile on my face. "I'm also glad you enjoyed it."

"Yes. Very much." Rose said. "Now let's head back to my place. Where you can have me for dessert." She said. Putting a sultry smile on her face.

As she did so I gave her butt a light slap.

Then I gave her a quick kiss.

But right after I did so the street lamps around us suddenly started going out one-by-one.

The moment this happened I got serious.

Stepping in front of Rose, I drew out the hidden dagger I always carried with me. "Rose stay behind me, and do what I tell you without question." I explained.

"Y-yes." Rose shakily said.

"Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you." I told her. My eyes darting around the area to quickly assess the situation.

Rose and I are the only two people on the street currently. We have been for some time. I didn't think anything of it at first, but now I think someone made it this way to get us alone.

More specifically me, since I am definitely the target.

Because attacking Rose would make one an enemy of the guild, and that is not something you do lightly.

Well I'm honestly not sure. All I know is this.

These fuckers picked the wrong people to mess with.

An eerie silence descended upon the street. A tension slowly built in the air.

Which broke the moment I saw a glint flying towards Rose and I.

Wasting no time I used my dagger to deflect it.

Then just as I did so I saw four shadows moving towards Rose and I.

Darting around on both side of us, they kept getting closer and closer.

However I didn't panic. Instead I remained calmed and tracked all their movements as best I could in the darkness.

When I sensed one of them extremely close to us I didn't hesitate.

I grabbed them and then stabbed them in the neck, raking my dagger across it.

As blood gushed out from their wound I saw several more glints headed in the direction of Rose and I.

So I used the body of the assassin I just killed as a shield to stop them.

Just as I did so one of bastards appeared behind Rose.

"Rose duck!" I yelled.

As I did so she dropped to the ground without any hesitation.

The moment after she did so I grabbed onto the assailants outstretched arm, which is holding a dagger. A cold look in my eyes.

'Bastard.' I thought.

This fucker tried to stab Rose.

Squeezing their arm with all my might I heard the assassins bone break but paid it no mind. Instead I tossed them over my shoulder and slammed them head first into the ground.

Creating a small impact crater as I did so.

'Two down. Three to go.' I thought.

Since I am including the annoying ass who keeps throwing things at us from the cover of the shadows.

Damn, how I wish Rogue was here right now.

Though I only thought that for a moment before turning my complete focus back to the situation at hand.

Coming at me from both sides, two of the remaining assassins performed a pincer maneuver.

One of them came at me with a blade which is giving off an ominous feeling. While the other is aiming for Rose with a blade.

Most likely trying to distract me, in the hopes that they can kill either one or both of us.

Well it won't work.

Just as the assassin aiming for me got within range I slipped behind them, and then delivered a kick to their back.

Sending them straight into their comrade.

As they bodies got tangled up, both of them let go of their weapons.

When they did so I scooped up both swords and them stabbed the two assassins with them without any hesitation.

'Four down, one to go.' I thought.

Immediately after I did so I jumped back.

The second after I did so something struck the ground and created a sizeable crater.

It is a long blade being wielded by the final assassin.

The two of us stared each other down for a second before they came at me.

Closing the distance they started slashing at me, and I used my dagger to parry the blows. But it was not easy.

This last assassin is different from the others I just faced.

Where as those four were level two. The one I am fighting right now is level three or four at least.

And while this kind of person wouldn't pose a problem for me normally since I am level six. The current situation is not normal. I am protecting Rose, and I am in the city.

If I were to go all out innocent people will die, and this bastard in front of me knows that. So they are using it to their advantage.

Strike after strike I parried the assassins' attack with my dagger.

Until they threw several objects at me with their free hand.

Which are kunai of all things.

As the kunai flew towards me I moved to dodge them all, and I managed to do so with all but one of them.

It pierced my left thigh.

But immediately after it did so I pulled it and threw it back at the last assassian.

Only for them to easily deflect it.

Then once they did so they turned and ran away.

Seeing this I got a bad feeling.

The assassin just now was in a favorable position, and I don't hear anyone approaching yet they just ran away. It doesn't make any sense.

Unless killing me or Rose wasn't their objective.

I started thinking about what just happened as I walked back over to Rose to check on her.

But I suddenly stopped doing so and fell to my knees as my body suddenly felt on fire. A second afer this happened I coughed up some blood and felt blood around my eyes.

That's when I realized the assassin got me. Most likely through the kunai which landed in my thigh.

"Morax!" Rose shouted.

"Dian Cecht familia." I said. "Now, hurry." I told her.

Falling to the ground after I did so. My vision starting to fade.

"Don't worry. I'm not going to let you die! I swear it!" Rose cried.

Which is the last thing I heard before my vision totally faded into darkness.

A/N: Morax is attacked by unknown assassins.

He ends up bleeding from his eyes and mouth.
