48 Monster Attack on the Town!

Chapter 48: Monster Attack on the Town!

"Hey, what's gotten into Bors?"

"What do you mean?"

"Being so generous, offering drinks to the boy. Usually, he'd con people into buying him a drink. What's the deal today?"

"Do you know the guy he's treating?"

"You're talking about the boy? What's his background?"

Looking over at Ethan, who was drinking with Bors, they remained full of questions.

But it seemed like the other party had seen through Bors's intentions.

"That guy is not just any ordinary adventurer."

"Then who is he?"

"You know about the buzz recently, about the pretty boy kept by the goddess of beauty?"

"Yeah, wait, you mean..."

The guy's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked over at Ethan once again.

Being kept by goddess Freya was something beyond the dreams of all male adventurers in Orario.

After all, she's the goddess of beauty, and she is in charge of Orario's strongest familia.

What does a man live for if not for 'money', 'beauty', and 'power'?

Becoming raised by such an awesome goddess, would he ever lack money?

Moreover, relying on Freya familia's influence, even if his strength was lacking, everyone would be hesitant to offend him unnecessarily.

All the goals people strive for in life, this guy just got them like that.

Now, who could they complain to? Life, more often than not, is simply unfair.

"So you're saying, Bors is trying to get on his good side?"

"After all, people from Freya Familia are all tough and crazy, and they look down on others. Bors couldn't even get close to them, but this guy is much more approachable compared to those psychopaths."

"Now that I'm thinking about it, that's right~"

Watching the two getting along well, the others nodded.

If Bors could establish a connection with the Freya Familia, the potential gains would far outweigh the cost of a few cheap drinks.

And the name of Freya Familia itself is a deterrent in Orario.

On this side, Ethan, seeing how Bors was 'introducing' Rivira to him, also had some guesses.

In this way, after three rounds of drinking, Bors was starting to feel dizzy, but Ethan remained unfazed.

To the current Ethan, as long as he didn't want to get drunk, any alcohol was like spring water to him. After all, being drunk was also considered a 'negative effect'.

"Brother, I'm really happy to meet you today."

Bors, his face red and speech slurred, was clearly drunk.

"I'm also happy that someone treated me to a drink just after arriving in this town," Ethan expressed his opinion.

"A drink's nothing! From now on in Rivira, brother, consider me your friend. Any expenses, they're on me," Bors winked, subtly reinforcing his goal of befriending Ethan.

"Thank you, but I can't accept that. I wouldn't feel right taking rewards I haven't earned. Even if you're the boss, it wouldn't be fair to your men," Ethan said firmly.

"Truly worthy of being my good brother, thinking about me," Bors didn't forget to compliment.

Ethan just smiled at Bors's attempts to foster a closer relationship and didn't say much.

From this drinking session, Ethan could see that Bors just wanted to establish a connection with him.

Understandably, Freya Familia's support made him an influential figure in Orario.

This meant Bors, as the leader of an adventurer town, could reap significant benefits simply by associating with him – Ethan wouldn't even need to do anything beyond leveraging Freya Familia's name.

'Bang—'

Suddenly, the tavern's door was burst open, and a cat-eared adventurer barged in.

After scanning the room, the cat-eared adventurer saw Bors, who was groggy at the table, and quickly ran over.

"Bors, drop the drink! There's trouble outside!"

The cat-eared adventurer snatched the wine away, his voice sharp with dissatisfaction.

"Hmm? What's the trouble?"

Bors didn't care, thinking nothing could happen in Rivira.

Seeing Bors like this, the cat-eared adventurer was speechless. How much had he drunk?

"Monsters are coming, probably targeting this place."

"Hmm? Monsters are coming?"

The cat-eared adventurer's words instantly sobered Bors a bit, and he stood up abruptly.

Many others drinking in the tavern also changed their expressions upon hearing this.

'Roar—'

'Howl—'

'Boom—'

Then, the sound of monsters howling and explosions came from outside.

Now, everyone was sure, monsters had really arrived.

"It's been such a short time, and these monsters are here again, damn it, Villy, notify everyone, prepare for battle, get rid of these creatures as fast as possible."

"It's been notified, but there are no mages left in the town."

"No mages?"

"Yes, I've asked around, there really aren't any."

"That's troublesome."

Bors's face darkened slightly.

Monster attacks on Rivira Town were a common occurrence; since so-called safe floors weren't really that safe.

Different from fighting in the dungeon, here, they had to protect the town as well as fight monsters.

If the town got destroyed, rebuilding would cost a lot of resources and manpower– that's money!

The best way to clear large numbers of monsters was powerful magic, just needing to buy time for mages to chant, their power could equal the efforts of a group of ordinary adventurers.

'Bang—'

"It's bad, monsters have broken in!"

The tavern's door was slammed open again, and a man stumbled in.

'Roar—'

With a roar, a monster followed the man inside.

A bulky body with deep pink skin, sharp tusks, and wielding a wooden club, it charged in like a ferocious beast.

"Orc!"

Bors frowned at the sight of the creature.

Orcs, creatures with potential strength between lv1 and lv2.

While not weak, they were easy for a seasoned adventurer like Bors to kill.

What made them troublesome was that they appeared in groups now, like imps and Killer Ants, moving in swarms and calling for companions.

'Roar—'

Facing the human before it, the Orc raised its wooden club, ready to smash down.

'Spurt—'

A sword flew out from nowhere, piercing the neck of the Orc.

The ferocious creature, just a moment ago, became a corpse in the blink of an eye.

"Brother, you~~~"

Bors turned to look at Ethan, his eyes filled with shock.

He thought he was just a pretty boy but didn't know the boy had real skills.

But then again, without real skills, Ethan wouldn't have made it to the 18th floor.
