11 Tussle of Dust and Wind

THEY have escaped. They flew their hardest. They were too far from where they come from when they realize that their mother was not with them.

"Naru," Shina called when her brother was still looking behind them. She did not understand what it was until her brother looked at her and anger was visible in his eyes.

"Mother! She wasn't able to get out! That man that she called Izanagi, he locked mother inside!" Anger. Rage. It was what they were feeling.

"But…But I heard he was our father?"

"But how can he?!" Naru shouted at Shina. "How can he lock his wife inside that pit alone?! Does he know how painful it was there?! Mother was bearing it all just for us. Because we were there! But now that she is alone…"

Shina just looked down. She doesn't understand what was happening. All that she was feeling was anger. Naru was right. That…oblivion was too painful. It was too dark to bear. If it weren't for their mother, they might have died there. And now their mother is alone, how can she still live there.

And just because of the stupidity of that man. Everything was ruined.

"Mother promised that we will be together."

"Yes," Naru said in his dark voice.

Shina could feel the cold in the air. It was Naru. He had already called the clouds that hid the warmth. She then called forth the wind that mingles with the damp cold air. The rain started to fall as hale followed it. The rumbling of the skies mirrored the anger in Naru. Together, they made a storm.

"That man, he wanted to protect these lands. These puny little living beings!" Naru shouted as he waved his hand to bring forth the storm that they made. "This, I call forth all the bodies of light and sound, air and the water I dare you to give revenge, let all these beings feel our wrath!"

Shina looked at the lands that they had walked. These beings needed protection at the expense of their mother's life. {They don't deserve it!}

With anger building in her heart, Shina blew the harshest gale she could have ever made. She chuckled as she watched the wind wiped all of the things it traverses.

"These little disgusting beings. Ungrateful. Shameless I don't know why they needed protection. We don't need these kinds of creatures. They are…insignificant. They're just sore in my eyes!" and again a cloud full of hale drove a mountain into ashes.

Naru and Shina watched this as they continue to wreak havoc in the land that they landed. They cannot feel anything but rage, anger, and wrath. It was their revenge for what that man did. They cannot forgive that for that small and powerless creature that their mother is suffering now.

"YU! YU! Where is Yu?"

"Elder, I saw Yu going back up at the sacrificial mountain together with all of the men of the village."

"I told him to stay put," the Elder shouted as he was holding onto the pole together with the others. "I told him to stay here. We will leave this land as the Gods are not in favor of us."

"But he said that he would confront the Gods!" said one of the villagers. "We have already sent our sacrifice to suffice their anger for another thirty years! Why they are doing this to us?!"

They were all shouting as the cries of women and children were all the Elder can hear. He was still thinking about the right thing to do when his son disappeared. When he decided to leave the land, he now cannot find him.

"Yu," he just called out to him in wind. Silently praying that he would survive together with the other men of the village.

It was a long time ago when these phenomena happened. When all the goodness and light disappeared. The dance and tremor of the land as endless cries of vulcan happened. Their ancestor chose to leave the land they were living in. That was the time the ritual to sacrifice someone to appease the wrath of the Gods. And it never failed. And he cannot understand what is happening now. They already gave a sacrifice. What do the gods want now?

"Megumi! Megumi!" called one of the children to his sister and clung to the girl called Megumi.

Was he wrong to sacrifice the other girl instead of Megumi? Megumi was chosen but Ayakawa volunteered. Ayakawa was Yu's bride. But Ayakawa volunteered for her sister.

The Elder closed his eyes. Maybe it was really a mistake. "Forgive us, our heavenly beings. Don't forsake us." He prayed. The villagers heard this and so they followed the Elder's prayers.

They were in knees under a shaking roof. He can feel it will soon be carried off by the winds. "May the Gods bless Yu's array." He silently prayed for a while. When he opened his eyes, he called upon all of his villagers. "we will leave now. Let us not delay this. Let Yu's array fight the wrath of Gods. If we stay here, he would just be distracted on saving the village's land."

"But, Elder!" Megumi stood with tears in her eyes. "I just cannot leave brother Yu."

"We must!" he stood his ground. He will not let the village be swayed by anything. "This is for Yu's safety."

Megumi got distracted by her brother and sister's crying. "Elder, will brother Yu know where he will find us?"

Elder just looked up at where Yu would be fighting before looking back at Megumi. "I trust that…Ayakawa's soul will guide him."

They both looked at each other. Fear as uncertainty was waiting for them. For a while, Megumi saw sadness and guilt in the Elder's eyes before it was washed by determination.

With that, Megumi followed the Elder's lead. Leaving the village. Leaving Yu to fight for everyone's battle.

***

"YU, WE cannot do this. They are just too powerful."

"Let's go back, Yu."

Anger flashed in Yu's eyes as he faced his comrades. "We will not go back. We will keep the village safe. This is our duty. We must protect the lives of our loved ones. You, Kazaha, you are doing this for your newborn child," Yu pointed at one of his long-time friends. "If we let this God have his way, we will all be killed."

"But if we turn our backs now, we might survive."

"And then what?" he shouted back. "This God cannot be appeased by our sacrifice thus he will follow us until they are satisfied. Prayers and pleas don't reach them. Thus, we resort to fighting. Let's fight for the sake of saving our legacies."

Each one of them looked at the other. Badly beaten and tired from the raging gust of wind and sheer cold of the wind. They had asked for forgiveness but all answers they got were slashes of sharp lightning. Thundering sound and Hard rock ice.

With just one understanding, they charged all their best to where the power of wind and water was coming from.

They slashed and drill their way in. The water was like acid, as the cold pierced to their skin. The wind blew spikes as it was harder and painful to breathe. Lightning blinded their eyes as the thunder broke their hearing.

In the eyes of the Gods, it was a losing battle. But they won't give up. They would fight for what they love. They would fight for the gift of life the creator has given them.

Yu cannot see but can definitely hear everyone's struggle. Their groan out of pain. The slash of wind tears their skin. The cracks of bones as their bodies fall.

"Everyone! Where are you?!" He shouted. No one answered.

Silence. the whistle of the wind can only be heard. Was he alone now? Is this the end?

A gust of wind slammed into his body thus falling face down on the ground. He struggled to stand up as the wind was pushing him to the ground. Yu can feel the blood from her lips as his face continues to slam on the ground. He kept fighting. He kept struggling.

"Arrrgggghhh!!" Yu shouted as he wrestled to stand up. It was hard to fight something you cannot see but he did his best until he was able to stand up. It was a fight that he never thought he could do. He coughed as he struggled to catch his breath. "I will fight you! I will fight you until my last breath!" He shouted as he continued to slash not minding what or who he might hit.

He used his samurai to keep his body at his feet. He cannot fall now. With one eye open, he saw a spark of light in the sky. It was their Elder. It was his signal that they were leaving the village.

Yu smiled to himself. He knew now that everyone in his village escaped this raging storm. Their death was not in vain. He will keep this up until all of them make a distance. It will buy them time to run away as far as they could.

"I can continue to fight! I will continue to fight! For them!" He looked around as if he was seeing his fallen brothers. "For my village! For Ayakawa!"

With all of his strength, as if he regained a new form of energy, he held himself up, stood up with his two feet, and face again his fight with the Gods.

"Let's fight to the end!"
