13 Naïve or just Stupid?

Shina and Naru looked up at the smoke they were seeing. They knew they were nearing the camp of the villagers. Shina looked back up at her brother who was carrying at his back was the villager who they fought.

Yes, they save him. And they came to terms that they would disguise themselves as humans. To live with them. To see if it was worth it to spare the lives of these mortals. And if not…

"We'll just have to kill them. Punish them," Naru said as he dropped the body of the man when he got it under the water. "Make them pay for what mother is going thru now."

Shina just nodded to his brother. And if ever they were proven wrong—no, they were never wrong. The creation of these creatures was the mistake their mother did.

"Better get ready, Shina. Changed yourself to adapt to what they looked like." Naru looked at the man then transform himself.

"Naru!" Shina panicked when she saw what his brother looked like. He looked like the man that was lying in the mud only he has darker blue eyes. "What are you doing?" she even spanked the head of her brother.

"Why did you do that? I'm not done yet, stupid. If your that great why not change yourself?"

Shina scowled at her brother. Actually, she was no better than her brother. She didn't know if what she was thinking was right. But she just did what she thought was right.

She closed her eyes and imagined herself as a human. With black hair and a darker complexion than her fluorescent snow-white skin. Only her clear blue eyes what was she cannot change.

When she opened her eyes, her brother already changed himself to a different face. His hair was shorter and darker than his hair before but lighter than Shina's.

They looked at each other and were ready to bicker at each other when the man groaned. Shina looked at Naru and together they saved his life.

Naru tends the water in his lungs as Shina heal some of his internal wounds. They patched all of his wounds with bandages using their clothes as it would be too suspicious if they brought him at the villagers without wounds.

"Let's go," Naru said as he continued to walk towards where the smoke was coming from. It wasn't that far that they didn't take long before they arrived at the camp.

The villagers were mostly composed of women and children. The younger females were the one who was defending the children and other elderly. Shina and Kuni stopped from they were standing. They were ready, too. If these people won't accept them and would be suspicious of them, they'll just have to obliterate every life there.

"Who are you?" said the girl with long black hair.

"What is that you are carrying?" said the other with shorter hair.

"Why are your eyes like that? Are you sent by those evil Gods?" Said that smallest one.

Shina saw how his brother's hand clasped harder on the arms of the man. She quickly held onto it. Both ready to attack. Shina and Naru blew a few winds and let a drizzle drop as they were getting ready.

"Yu?" it was the girl with long hair that noticed what Naru was carrying. "Is that you, brother Yu? No. That…Elder! It's brother Yu!"

She didn't wait for another word and just dropped the weapon she was holding and run into them. Shocked by what she did, Naru backed up but didn't do anything.

The girl stopped in front of Naru as she looked at the face of the man they called Yu. She then inspects the face of Yu as tears flowed in her face. "It's Yu. Everyone! Its brother Yu!"

Naru just looked down at the girl's face as she checked Yu. It was the very first time he had been that close to a girl. Aside from his mother and sister, he was oblivious to others.

The girl has dark eyes and a small nose. She also has that two small moles right under each of her eyes. Her lips were different from the moist and plump lips of his sister, but they were loud and powerful. Naru stopped looking at her when the girl looked up to him before calling out to the others but the moment she removed her eyes from him, he cannot help but look at her again. Following her moves and hearing the way she speaks.

When everyone heard what the girl said, they all cried as they were smiling. They even guided them into the camp and go to one of the tents. They were given blankets when Shina was seated as Naru laid Yu in the make-shift bed. Shina thought that everyone in the village was inside the small tent. In the end, they were sent out as an old man entered the tent.

"Elder!" the girl cried as she guided the old man near Yu. "He's alive. He's breathing. It seems there are no fatal injuries. But his right arm is fractured and most of his ribs are broken, too. His fever is high but I think it might be because of the injuries."

The Elder looked and inspected Yu's body as the girl told everything that was she observed. After looking at Yu, the Elder's eyes fall to Shina and Naru.

"They say…that you two were the one who brought him here," The Elder slowly said. "May I know where you two come from? This is the first time that I have seen you."

Unfazed by the man before them, Naru looked at him and answered. "We came from the deep forest from the other side of the mountain. We left our home to sell woods to the other village when the storm struck. And when we arrived at the nearest village, everyone was gone. Everyone left because of the unending storm."

"Just the two of you?! You two, rushed to the storm alone?" The girl asked as shock was clearly seen on her face.

"Yes, what can we do?" Naru answered and looked down. Not meeting the eyes of the girl. "Our parents have long been gone. They…died protecting us. And I cannot leave my sister alone. She's blind you see."

"I see. I will ask no more," Elder nodded his head. "Well, we only have each other now. You can stay here as long as you want. You are welcome to stay and be one of us. After saving one of our own, we consider you as one of us. You can stay here and rest. If you need anything, just call this girl here."

The Elder nodded to them before going out of the tent. The girl followed the old man and gone for quite some time. There was a rustle just right outside the tent but eventually, it was quiet again.

Naru looked at Shina. "You think they believed us?"

"Maybe. For now." Shina answered. "I don't feel any threat." Shina now looked at the man sleeping in the bed. His face was still in pain. Maybe because he was still suffering from the other injuries that they left out.

Shina looked at Naru when she felt him pinching her cheeks. "What stupidity is this, Naru?"

"Nothing," he just then said. "The girl. Her face. Her skin."

"What about it?"

"It's imperfect," Naru said without hesitation. "How can mother make such imperfect creature?"

And as if the girl heard them, she emerged from the entrance of the tent. Naru's eyes were gone wide as he looked at the girl. Shina almost laughed only if she wasn't pretending to be blind. It will reveal their disguised if she would say that she was laughing because of his brother's shocked face. This dumb brother. How can you be afraid of the girl just because you called her imperfect?

"Did I frighten you?" The girl giggled. "Relax. I won't do anything to you. Well, except help you dress your wound if you have any."

"Y-you didn't frighten me. Who said I was?" Naru stuttered as he avoided the girls' eyes. But it was so wrong of him to look at his sister. Shina was now grinning at him. She even mouthed 'stupid' at him.

"Anyway, here are some clear clothes for…Wait, I haven't introduced myself, aren't I? I'm Megumi Tanaka. You can call me Megumi. And this guy there is Yu. Yu Tsumori. And thank you for saving him even though you don't know him."

Naru still wasn't looking at the girl, not until she stood in front of them.

"Come on, don't be shy."

"N-Naru. You can call me Naru." Naru just threw a glance at Megumi and kept looking down.

"And you?"

"She's my twin sister, Shina," Naru replied even before Shina could speak. "And she's blind. She's been blind ever since she was born,"

"Since the day she was born?"

"Yes," Kuni said again.

"But her eyes are beautiful despite being blind." Megumi then held Shina's hand. "You have a great brother. And I'm happy that you two are here now. You won't be living alone. You have us now." Megumi tapped Shina's head before letting go of her hand completely.

"I will leave the clean clothes here. You can change now and I will be back to get you. I know you're famished. For now, rest." Megumi smiled at them.

Shina and Naru don't feel any negative energy from the villagers. Despite being strangers to them, they were welcomed as if they were one of them.

How do these mortals be this naïve? Or they just stupid? How can they be this trusting?

Still, they cannot understand how are mortals live their lives. So, they both decided that they will stay a little longer.
