44 Mischievous in Dandyland

DANDY's eyes had been jumping from Sora to Maeko. They looked the same but still aren't. She cannot just pinpoint what it was but she cannot help and giggled as the two of them haven't glanced at each other.

They all sat down near the old oak tree for the shade. While Tamotsu and Yoshiko sat not too far away from them. Sora was sitting with crossed legs and so were his arms while his head was facing away from Maeko.

And then there was Maeko. She was sitting properly as if ready to get an award from someone important with that big smile of hers, too.

Upon closer look, the two looked the same in their difference compared to the kids in this land. The color of their hair, eyes, skin, and their heights. It's different and made them stand out.

{Just like me.} Dandy held her hair and looked at it. With the yellow like a burst of sunshine and blue as sky eyes.

"We're the same!" Dandy exclaimed. "Look, I have yellow hair. Sora has brown-like copper hair and you," she pointed at Maeko. "Your hair is like fire. It's so beautiful."

Maeko looked away from Dandy with it getting redder than her hair.

"I…hate it."

"Ha?" Dandy looked at her with a confused look. "Why?"

"They always make fun of my hair. And they say that I'm dumb. That all red hair are dumb."

Sora then scoffed. "Serves you right. It's fitting as you better be called brawn than beauty." He even snickered but only stopped and held his legs. "What was that?"

"It was me," Dandy answered as her face darkened. "That was mean, Sora. Maeko is your friend."

"No, she's not."

"No."

And Dandy was back at looking at them. "I thought you both are. He helped you—"

"She was just pretending. She can defend herself." Sora defended. "Just yesterday, she took down a big guy. Bigger than us."

Maeko then came silently again and looked away.

"Is it true?"

Maeko nodded. "Yes. But I'm not trying to hide it. I just….I just don't want them to know that I can do that. But this guy just ruined everything."

"Me?"

"Yes, Because you look weak over that big guy." Maeko now faced Sora. "You see, I'm going to pretend to be a princess-like girl. I've always wanted to be like that. I thought that I can start anew when I came here from Tokyo. Forgetting that I did Judo. Forgetting that I had towering height and this red flaming hair. I just want to be a normal girl."

After what Maeko said. All of them went silent. Dandy can feel how lonely Maeko was. She doesn't know what she had gone thru but aiming for something you wanted isn't always easy. Now that she had the chance, it was all blown up.

"Sorry," a small voice came out from Sora. "I…didn't mean to expose your ability. But you see, not all princesses are like 'the princess'." Sora even used his two fingers to quote the last words. "you just need to be unique."

Dandy smiled and nodded to what Sora said. She likes the sound of that. "I think, being different and unique is enough to be called a princess."

It was only then that Maeko smiled at them. Sora offered his hands to Maeko. Maeko looked at it for a moment before accepting it and laughed at each other.

"Weakling."

"Giant Princess."

"Then What am I?"

The two stopped bickering at each other and looked at her. Sora then gave her a big wide smile.

"You. You're the Forest Princess. Or Flower princess." Sora giggled until it turned into a laugh as he awkwardly scratched his head.

"Look at that kid, he looked stupid."

"Yeah. Calling our deity a princess."

"I'm not stupid! And she really looks like a princess that's why I called her a princess!" Sora shouted at Yoshiko and Tamotsu who were watching them.

"She isn't a princess? Then what is she?" Maeko asked as she looked at her.

Dandy looked back at Maeko and answered her with a smile. "A Deity."

*******

"SO YOU'RE saying that you are the deity of this forest?"

"Uh-ha," dandy answered enthusiastically.

"And those two," Maeko pointed at the wolf and grasshopper. "are your guardians?"

"Yes."

"And—"

"Stop. Stop. Why are you asking one by one? Why don't you just ask her in one go? It's annoying."

Maeko cannot help herself and gave Sora a punch in his arm. "Shut up, okay? I'm asking her not you."

"It's annoying."

"But she's not." She taunted Sora with another punch and finally, he shut his mouth. "Then, is it true that fairies eat flowers?"

"I don't eat. I don't need to eat." Dandy beamed at her. "But if I wanted to imitate Yoshiko, I eat mushrooms and fruits."

Maeko only nodded to what Dandy answered. It still amazes her to see a deity. From Tokyo, her classmates don't believe in them. They were more inclined to believe ghosts and monsters.

"This is amazing," she told to herself. "You can fly. And of course, you can do magic and power. That's awesome."

She then looked at Yoshiko and Tamotsu. She heard that they were talking but she cannot hear it but Sora can. A bad taste left her mouth. She was defeated by that kid with that.

{Then I'd learn how to communicate with them without hearing them talk. And I'd be cooler than him.}

And then her eyes flew to the two other kids that were sitting beside the wolf. Wearing kimono's that she saw worn up to this day. Both of them were also glowing and it was brighter than Dandy. They looked like they have neon lights on their bodies. And their hair changes colors from top to end. What fascinated her aside from their hair was cloth in their faces…

"Who are they?' Maeko pointed at the two. "Why are they wearing that?" She stood up only to back up and hid behind Sora.

The wolf stood up and growled at her. Did she say something wrong?

"S-sora, why are they angry?"

"Because you pointed your finger to the Gods of wind and lightning," Sora scolded her. "They are Shina and Naru."

"Gods!?" She exclaimed. "Then, can I see what's behind that cloth? I haven't seen real-life gods."

And without waiting for anyone's answer, she ran to where Naru was and everything became chaos.
