Chapter 5 - I fucked up.

As we headed back to the lobby Rio had started to talk

"Leo... I'm nervous..."

"Why?"

"I've never had a job before... I think I'll mess something up..."

"You're pretty enough that most customers will laugh it off."

"Just don't piss off some old dude."

"But..."

"Rio."

"...Yes?"

"If anyone give you trouble then tell me, I'll piss them right off."

Rio seemed more at ease after I told him these words.

"Thank you..."

"Though if you're in the wrong, I might just have to hit you."

"Eh!?"

"I'm kidding."

Rio thought that it didn't look like I was joking.

After heading down the stairs the owner told me to go over to the wall and start singing. She took Rio and began to teach him how to work.

It seemed like Jennette told the customers I'd be singing because everyone quieted down when I was there.

It was more nerve-racking than I thought. It looked like they had cleared out a little area that everyone in the Inn could see. I know I had a good voice based on the other's reactions, but would these people like the songs I sang?

Fuck it. I'll just do my job. That was the mentality I had even back in my world.

When I started to sing it went dead quiet.

"Tears will saturate the clay laid

The loose dirt paints me and warms me

Why is it a sad thing, baby?

Returning to the being who made me"

After I finished singing, I looked towards the crowd. It seemed all of their attention was on me. No one was saying anything though. Did I have too much confidence in my talent? Did I fuck up?

Ah, well maybe I'll be able to be a waiter or something.

"Woo!"

The crowd shouted

"Again!"

What?

What was this? Everyone seemed to be having a great time and wanted me to sing more. Well, fuck, I guess I must.

I didn't know it, but I had a smile on my face.

I sang for the next few hours, taking a short break every couple songs. The customers loved me.

"That'll be it for today."

"Come again tomorrow if you want to hear more."

I headed to an empty table, and Jennette came up to me.

"That was a really good show!"

"Thanks."

"Hell, If I didn't own this place, I'd be coming here every day to hear you sing."

"Is that so?"

"Yep! And that ending message, "Come again tomorrow if you want to hear more" was brilliant! I might have to up your pay."

"That'd be appreciated, how's Rio?"

"He did great, even though he messed up a few times, he was amazing for his first day."

"Hah, I think you two might just be my little money makers."

"Then you should give us a raise."

"I'll think about it."

"You received some tips today."

She put a bag on the table. It was a small leather pouch that seemed to be quite full.

"Thanks."

"Work hard."

She went back to tending the customers

Sigh.

My voice kind of hurt, I'll probably have to sing less the following days.

Checking the pouch, it was mostly filled with copper coins. There were a few silver coins mixed in there though.

Applying to Heavensward would cost us 10 gold each. I wasn't even sure if me and Rio would be accepted. When I wrote the novel I kind of skipped a lot of the details on how they accepted students.

Heavensward had around 200 students, it was divided into 3 classes for multiple years.

For example, In the original novel I had the main character Kazu in Class C, which had about 16 students. Class B had around 17 students, and Class A had about 15 students. These classes weren't ranked by skill and were just random.

And when you go up a grade you'd still be in the same class, so after a year Kazu was in Class 2-C, and so on. You'd be there for around 5 years if you completed all the years. And depending on your age that would decide which division you were sent to.

For example, The Heavensward minor division would be for anyone below the age of 16. Then the Highschool division would be for people 16-19. And the remaining would be for anyone above the age of 19.

Confusing? I know, I didn't really pay attention while writing that part. But I do remember that they had a device which would figure out your talents, and skills. So that probably played a part in who got accepted... I really should of world-built more...

Sigh...

Rio came up to me, and the Inn had a little less people in it now.

"Leo! That was amazing!"

"I guess."

"I was really impressed! I could tell the customers were too!"

"Yeah."

"Could I get a basic meal?"

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

"You're a waiter, remember?"

"Oh! Coming up!"

"Hah."

I smiled.

A person in a suit came up to my table

"That was a brilliant performance!"

"Thank you."

"Are you perhaps doing commissions? I'd like to hire you for my daughter's birthday party!"

Commissions, that would be a good idea. After all, making 20 gold wasn't easy. The Heavensward applications were in 2 months. And with the current salary we have, me and Rio wouldn't even make 1 gold.

"I am."

"Would you like to discuss the details here?"

"No, follow me."

"Ah, I just ordered some food, could you wait a few?"

He seemed like a rich man; he was fairly good looking and had some bodyguards. But I was hungry.

"Sure, I'll wait."

He smiled, but his bodyguards looked at me weirdly. The man had sat at the opposite end of the table and talked to his bodyguards.

Shortly after Rio brought my meal to the table.

"Thank you."

"It's my job after all."

Rio smiled. He looked proud of himself.

The meal was 5 copper and came with a good-sized portion of food.

I had given Rio a silver coin I got from the tips and told him to buy himself something after he's done working.

At first, he was adamant about not taking it, but I used my authority as his brother to force him.

The man across from us seemed to smile while looking at us.

I finished my food quickly.

"Sorry for the wait."

"It's no problem, I enjoyed the atmosphere."

"Alright, follow me."

"Rio, I'll be back."

"...Goodluck..."

After we exited the Inn, we were greeted with a carriage and some more bodyguards.

"Hop in."

This was a really rich person.

After entering the carriage, we sat across from each other, I decided to check his status.
