Damiens Shoes

Damien, a 13 year old African American boy is from the South Side of Chicago. Money is tight and his mother is sick. Leaving no other options, Damien sells his brand new Air Jordan's; his gift from his mother right before she got sick. One day an officer who mistakes the pair of shiny new Air Jordan's as something that appears to look stolen, arrests Damien. He is soon transported to a holding cell. Cold, hungry, and scared, Damien does not know what the future holds. Unbeknownst to him at the time, his mother's treatment is not working and she is getting worse. The only thing that may keep her alive is a new FDA approved drug but the cost is astronomical. Having spent most of the money per her income as a house cleaner, it's only enough to sustain the bills and a weeks worth of food. Time is running out and perhaps the only person that could keep her alive is in jail for something he did not commit.
