Day 01: “Yangjiang Village.”

Before we stepped into the village, we were already treated like a clown circus. Many pedestrians looking at us in a hideous way, some are confused why our attire differs from theirs. No one could blame them for their curiosity, after all, we're in a different timeline, and we can tell that we might get into trouble soon if we kept our current look.

"Why are they looking at us like that?", said Liao Yan while tugging my elbow.

I tilted my head to take a look at him and turns out he is seriously unaware of our situation here. I let out an exasperation sigh and replied,

"It got anything to do with our attire, just look at us, we're wearing a simple t-shirt and black jeans. How could the people in this era obtain such clothes?",

"Ah, right…",

After proper consideration, Liao Yan and I decided to look for an abandoned hut to store our bikes, because we're already attracting too much attention just by dressing in this way, and I definitely refused to be a real circus clown at this age.

"What should we do now? Our money won't be any of use in this era.", Liao Yan sighed and finally, he understood our situation.

"Perhaps we should look for collectors and trade our money with their currency. It should be available in a pawn shop or something.", I picked my water thermos and drank it, honestly, the heat in this timeline is really unbearable for someone with sensitive skin like me. We discussed our plans to survive in this era while looking for a way back home, turns out, it might not be impossible to go back now, since we knew where we came from and what delivers us here. Liao Yan and I retreated from the abandoned hut after hiding our bike, since we can't do anything about our attire, we can only head to the pawnshop in the fastest way. When we entered the pawnshop, there was only one table counter and an old man standing by in the middle, he was sweeping the floor but then got disturbed by our sudden appearance.

"I've never seen the gentlemen, could it be from the neighboring country?", he said as he narrowed his eyes and take a good look towards us. Judging by his behavior, it seems like he got a blurry vision and perhaps even worse than I am.

"Yes, we're from the neighboring country and wanted to trade our items for money.", I approached the old man and pretend to look serious, "Sir, are you possibly having a blurred vision?",

"Yes, how did you know?",

"Oh, pardon us for the late introduction, my name is Xun Jinyun, here is my assistant, Liao Yan. I'm a traveling physician and I happen to have a tool to help your blurred vision.",

The old man laughed and said, "There is no way the gentlemen could have such miraculous tools, even the grand royal physician at the palace haven't found a method to cure these eyes.",

"I said 'help' not 'cure', here try this first.", I placed my reading glasses on the old man's face and his eyes widened instantly.

"I-I can see clearly! H-how could it be!", the old man then looked towards my pale face and Liao Yan's, "You... how old are you?!",

I answered, "I'm 21 years old.",

Liao Yan half-raised his hand, "Same here.",

The old man immediately throw us a group hug and making us looked like Teletubies, anyway I'm glad I could help this old man to run his business, now let's get down to business.

"Sir, we wanted to trade money--",

"Here's twenty thousand liang.", suddenly the old man gave us two sacks of coins. It was quite heavy and we weren't sure about the prices in this era.

"This should be enough for five to six months for the two gentlemen to stay here.", the old man smiled as if he had guessed what's on our mind. Nevertheless, he seemed to be a good man, so we trust his words and thanked him for his generosity. Outside the pawnshop, Liao Yan's stomach grumbled, "Damn, I'm hungry...",

"I have Snickers on my backpack, you want some?",

"No, I want rice.",

"Alright, alright. But first, we need to do something with our clothes.",

Liao Yan tilted his head left and right. Then, he pointed to a clothing shop two blocks away from here, "How about we go there?",

I looked in the direction he pointed at, it looked like a fancy clothing shop which made me insecure about our financial state at this moment.

"It looks pretty fancy.",

"Better than nothing, right? Come on, we can earn another coin, especially when you are a medical student.",

"Becoming a physician fraud could take innocent lives.", I sighed, I may be a jerk but to take anyone's life is another issue.

"Hey, it's not like we're going to murder people, come on, just believe in your knowledge.", Liao Yan said as he patted my shoulder lightly.

Liao Yan didn't lie, in this era, if you are talented enough at something, you can easily promote your services here. No need for documentation, terms and agreement, et cetera. Plus, if you managed to cure an incurable disease, the people at the palace might summon you in and promote you to be an imperial physician. But of course, I'm not interested in this since all I want is to go home and hope all of these are not real.

"Fine, let's take a look at the prices.",

Liao Yan nodded and the two of us approached the clothing shop. Inside the clothing shop, there are many people picking silks with gorgeous brocade and other patterns. I hate to be in a crowded place, so I urged Liao Yan to find the cheapest clothes as soon as possible.

"How about this? This is easy enough to move and pretty stylish.", Liao Yan showed a blue short hanfu with a gray layer in it, he's right, these clothes are pretty stylish and looked like the typical adventurer Xia.

"You want this?", I asked.

"Yeah, it's pretty cool. How about you?",

"I think I'm taking the black one.",

I took the black hanfu with gold embroidery because it looks pretty cool. After we finished exchanging our clothes, Liao Yan suggested finding a cheap inn for us to stay. Since this village is pretty vast, I believe they have some decent inn with cheap price. After excursing for half an hour, we finally found an inn suitable for both comfort and pocket. The inn looked pretty stylish with a traditional bamboo fountain in the front, the building itself looks like a building in the west lake of Hangzhou. We entered the building and a waiter immediately greeted us politely, I must say I liked the way they serve things here, added with the traditional building and a heavy pocket, I'm already enjoying my time here.

We rented one room with two beds, although it's still afternoon, but when we entered the room fatigue immediately kicks us in.

"I think I will call it a day.", I said as I tucked myself in the quilt.

Liao Yan also did the same and closed his eyes, "Same here.", thus both of us fell asleep peacefully.

A few hours passed by, Liao Yan patted my back to wake me up,

"Hey, wake up… let's grab something to eat.",

I opened my eyes and remembered that we haven't had lunch, as a medical student I know what will happen if we skipped a meal for today.

"Alright, let's eat before we get a stomachache.",

Both of us retreated from our room and reserved a table near the window. We ordered a roasted duck and a bowl of tofu soup.

"The roasted duck is pretty tasty.", I said as I poured a Longjin tea on my cup.

Liao Yan nodded in satisfaction as he stuffed a duck's thigh on his mouth, "But it's a bit pricey though.", I shrugged and stuffed another duck's meat into my mouth. The juicy taste never escapes from my tongue, it's really worth the price.

"Please, is there a physician here? My lady is pregnant!",

There suddenly a voice echoed through the inn, I tilted my head to look around and saw a female with green attire that looks like a female warrior. Liao Yan also takes a look at her and his face immediately changed which left me with a bad premonition.

"Excuse me miss, could it be you're looking for a physician?", Liao Yan immediately approached the beautiful girl with a genuine smile. Then, at an angle the woman didn't see, he winked at me and smiling back at the woman.

My bad premonition was right…

"My friend here happens to be a disciple of a physician, perhaps he could help.",

The woman looked in my direction and showed a hint of doubt. This time it's personal, I stood up proudly and approached the two of them.

"Good evening, ma'am. I'm Xun Jinyun, a disciple of the legendary physician. I overheard that there's someone who's pregnant, perhaps I could check her pulse and examine her condition?", I may be a medical student, but I'm confident in my skills, especially when my grandpa taught me traditional healing treatment. I don't want to disappoint him.

The woman nodded and said, "Please do.",

We followed the woman to a larger room than us, and this is where we regretted bragging too much about our modern skills.
