18 Chapter 18 : Life As A Soldier!!

"We are going to win this war because we have the best... men. And because they're gonna get better. Much better."

"The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an allied effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man." Cartel yelled at them as they did their first round of training...

Chester Phillips then arrived and gave a speech to the cadets, taking an instant dislike for Rogers as he believed that such a small man should not be involved in their operations.

Rogers trained hard in his attempts to prove himself to be a worthy soldier with the United States Army, but struggled on much of the physical training, managing to get tangled in a rope climb and falling upside down.

Rogers was also often mocked and bullied by the other soldiers, including Hodge who would kick out the structures behind him to ensure that the barbed wire fell on Rogers which he would be forced to crawl through all of the mud.

This, of course, didn't escape the trained eyes of neither the seniors there nor the superiors, just as things were getting out of hand Seion sighed and moved forward before trapping a gun in his hand from a soldier and pulled the trigger...

BANG!!!

The sounds of gunshot resounded in the training area while the one who was bullying Rogers fell down holding his thigh and screamed in pain...

However, just once wasn't enough and Seion fired three more times targeting all of his limbs in a non-lethal way...

BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!

Carter and the rest were stunned and so all the cadets training as none expected four gunshots, hell they lost their cool on the first one while now they stayed quiet as they saw one of them lying there in a pool of blood...

"Anyone else wishes to start bullying others and mess with their bodies while they trained??" Seion asked and he could have sworn he saw countless heads shaking left and right...

"No?? Too bad..." As he said that many paled seeing that he pointed at the crowd and sure enough they all ducked...

BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!

Carter immediately rushed behind him and caught his arm while switching his target to the skies before angrily glared at him...

"What the fuck are you doing!!!" Carter yelled with anger in her eyes...

"I'm teaching them a lesson...." Seion said stunning and shocking everyone...

"A lesson?? Don't you mean a final lesson as you are killing them??" She growled at him...

"Killing them?? You better grow some eyes... No one has been hit much less has died, not to mention that cadet Roger removed the injured bully out of the way..." Seion said making everyone look at the crowd and then at Roger who had covered the injured...

Without anyone knowing Hodge who was whimpering in pain was looking in disbelief as the weak guy from earlier saved him...

When they looked back at the crowd they saw a few people falling to the ground covering for others before those selected few dragged others with them...

And one of them was Logan himself...

"Listen UP!!! YOU FUCKING RETARDS!!!"

"YOU ARE HERE TO TRAIN SO THAT YOU CAN FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY WHERE COUNTLESS PEOPLE WORK TO GIVE YOU THE BREAD AND MILK YOU EAT EVERY MORNING!!"

"TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OR THEIR FAMILIES IF YOU ARE ORPHANS AND CARRY OUT JUSTICE UPON THEIR DEATHS!!!"

"IF YOU WISH TO BULLY!!! GO BACK TO THE GANGS YOU BELONGED TO AND WHEN WE LOSE THE WAR BECAUSE OF ALL OF YOU!!"

"THE NAZIS WILL TAKE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!! AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING THEY WILL TAKE YOUR LIVES AFTER RAPING THOSE CLOSEST TO YOU BE IT A GUY OR A WOMAN!!"

"Thankfully, we have a few people that are willing to save their comrades in the face of death and fight for the injustice and cruelty of the Nazis..."

"Those are the true SOLDIERS even if they are weak or don't talk to the others..."

"The rest of you have failed... You failed those making the clothes keeping you warm... You failed those that made the food and various cans that we get to import every day and fill our stomachs..."

"You failed your family and comrades... But above all, you failed yourself!!!"

"Because of your bullying and if I hadn't stepped in today... In the far future, those people picked by you eventually would have breaked and betrayed you by putting a bullet through your hearts and skulls..."

Silence... A deadly silence fell when Seion finished his speech and gave the weapon back to Carter while leaving towards his room and even the superiors couldn't say anything...

The fact that Carter herself was standing with her hands lifted and holding the gun while staring at his retreated figure was something no one could believe...

Just then claps were heard snapping everyone back to reality...

"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons, but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men. And because they are going to get better. Much better."

"The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an Allied effort made up of the best minds in the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man."

"At the end of this week, we will choose that man. He will be the first in a new breed of super-soldiers. And they will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of Hell."

They all looked and saw Colonel Chester Phillips who was an officer of the United States Army, the first and only director of the Strategic Scientific Reserve...

"When Rogers first came here along with the rest of you, I criticized the others.."

"You're not seriously thinking of picking Rogers are you?"

"When you brought a ninety-pound asthmatic onto my army base, I let it slide. I thought, what the hell? Maybe he'll be useful to you, like a gerbil. I never thought you'd pick him. Stick a needle in that kid's arm and it's gonna go right through him. Look at that? He's making me cry."

"Is what I told others on the very first day... But look at him now, though he struggles he has the will to fight for his country..."

"Yet here he is once again the first one along with others to save his fellow cadet despite the fact that he was bullied..."

Everyone looked at Rogers and lowered their heads especially the one who bullied him before and thinking what could have happened to the future they felt even more guilty...

After this incident that paused their training and sending Horde to the infirmary to tend to his wounds and recover many reflected a lot of things...

The days passed and after reforming themselves into trying their hardest finally the day everyone was excited for arrived...

It wouldn't be the military if it didn't involve firing weapons. Members will get their first crack at firing actual military weapons during the last few weeks of basic combat training.

Weapons training differs greatly among the different branches' basic training programs. Without a doubt, recruits fire the most rounds during the basic training programs.

They're followed by the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, and finally the Coast Guard. Regardless of the branch, a recruit can't graduate from military basic combat training/boot camp without proving that they can handle a military weapon without shooting themselves, their classmates, or the instructors.

There are many types of weapons used in the United States Military, but in military basic combat training, a recruit is only required to learn about a few.

If the military job requires one to know about additional weapons, and how to use them, more training will be given additionally during their military timeframe...

In any situation in which hazardous materials are involved there exists the potential for a mishap to occur, and when these mishaps occur the results can be as spectacular as they are deadly.

All forms of ordnance contain some type of explosive charge to launch and, in most cases, detonate, a weapon. If these charges are inappropriately stored or handled the result can be serious injury or death to the person and anyone in the immediate vicinity.

Other dangers include faulty guidance and sensory information, which can cause guided ordnance to inadvertently target friendly or neutral units.

Advances in technology have helped to reduce, and in some cases eliminate, problems with these materials; nonetheless, extreme care must be given when using or implementing them.

For example, the handling of gunpowder demands the use of gloves and an area free of static electricity and other potential sparks which could ignite the powder.

However, even as their guns different from those of 1800 and have gone through countless evolution those problems still exist after 100+ years...

After going through the firing exercise everything returned to its normal routine while occasionally still trained with guns...

A few days later, Carter, Philips and Seion watched as the soldiers have been completely trained and became elites on their own rights...

Now all they had to do was to select a few people where they would go through the experiment and become their hope in this war...

Erskine came forward with files of potential strong soldier according to his belief...

First on the list was Rogers' determination and quick thinking often made him stand out from the group, even when he was still struggling to keep up with the other soldiers physically.

While out on their run under the orders of Michael Duffy, Rogers and the other cadets were offered a ride home if they successfully took down a flag from the top of a pole, with Rogers being too tired to join the others in desperately trying to climb up the pole physically to take down the flag.

Rogers, however, approached the situation more thoughtfully and, rather than attempting to climb up the flagpole, Rogers instead simply removed the pole's support pin, allowing it to fall down before removing the flag as it lay on the grass.

With that, and being the first cadet in the camp's history to successfully take the flag, Rogers gained his ride to camp in Carter's Jeep, much to the annoyance of the other soldiers who had failed to think of it.

Despite all of Rogers' continued efforts to prove himself to be worthy, many were unconvinced as even though facts speak on their own they still had doubts...

Phillips who was the first to ever doubt Rogers for the Project Rebirth procedure decided to demonstrate who was braver than others by throwing a fake grenade at the cadets.

Much to their surprise, Rogers jumped over the grenade in order to protect his fellow soldiers from the blast that never came.

While the others jumped forward to drag away Steve in a quick manner and gaining a few meters of the gap between the grenade...

Seeing this many reluctant accepted and as they choose, they proposed for Rogers to go first with clear intentions to get rid of him as they still had doubts that his body will fail and be killed during the REBIRTH!!
