The Light

The Light was a council comprised of self-proclaimed enlightened members whose primary goal was to precipitate mankind's next evolutionary step, thus placing it on the center stage of the cosmos.

Originally, it was formed by Vandal Savage many years ago with his daughter to further their goals. But after her death and thousands of years and watching humanity bring itself to ruin, The Light changed its goals.

It was reformed in 2007 as a response to the Justice League with the main members being Vandal, Ra's, Lex Luthor, Queen Bee, Ocean Master, The Brain, and Klarion and each had significant control over various spheres of influence.

After nearly 8 years, several of the members had been changed out. Ocean Master was permanently removed and his seat was never filled while Ra's was replaced by Talia when her League of Shadows took over and The Brain was replaced by Jason after Jason ordered for him to be assassinated so they could take the seat without a long, drawn-out conflict.

For this meeting, Rose was sitting in place of Jason since he was busy with other matters but also knew just as much about the group because of her father, Talia, and Jason so she was able to act properly as his replacement during certain times.

"Welcome, everyone. 3 of our members just had a discussion with the League regarding the outbreak of cybernetic use. If one of you would explain to us the results of that meeting," Vandal asked with noticeable cyberveins on his face. It was obvious that he had gotten himself some upgrades as well.

Talia nodded and decided to be the one to speak for the group.

"It went better than we planned, Savage. The League has paid over 7 billion in order to get Edgerunners to stop distributing cybernetics to the public."

"Excellent. Any comment, Rose?"

"None. I already knew that we were expanding far too fast. The people aren't able to handle it. We needed a reason to give them a break so this was the best opportunity. Harley and Scandal are already working on the public announcement to push blame on the League."

Rose knew that there would be extreme backlash with the popular cybernetics being put on pause. If they could shove the blame over to the Justice League, it would have anger focused on them instead of the Edgerunners.

When Vandal first met Jason, he thought that he was simply an upstart. But since the formation of Edgerunners, the Light had already began making contact with them. They wanted a group that shared in their beliefs to join them. So when Jason assassinated the Brain, it was the perfect chance to allow them to join.

"Then that works out well. Queen Bee. How is the Reach?"

"Hmm. We can't trust them. They say that they simply want to assist us for now but from what our spy is telling us, they are also researching how to shut down meta-genes and working with their competitors."

"Then they shall be eliminated. Who wishes to partake in this?" Vandal asked the table

"Let my people do it officially. They are based in Greater Bialya, we can use that as our excuse to get rid of them without outside interference," Queen Bee offered. "We can also hire the Edgerunners to assist against this 'alien threat'."

"Let me assist as well. I have a few loose cannons in the Legion that we could get rid of or put to use on this mission," Lex offered his help.

Queen Bee nodded. She could use all the help that the others were offering. Black and Green Beetle were both dangerous combatants that needed to be taken care of properly. Black Beetle was an alien that was capable of matching Mongul blow for blow with just his fists while Green Beetle was basically Martian Manhunter but with an Extremis Iron Man Suit.

Vandal, Talia, and Klarion nodded. They wanted to assist as well but they knew that they couldn't. I order for the light to remain secretive, they could not always work together, even for their benefit. They made it a rule that at most 3 of their members could work jointly on missions.

"When shall you all begin the attack?" Talia asked the important question

"Rose?" Queen Bee forwarded the question to her. The Edgerunners would play the most important part. This would be their first large conflict in which they would take part in.

"Give us a couple of weeks. We are almost finished with the first generation of original borgs," Rose pulled up her datapad to look at the results. "Of the original 100 assassins that Talia 'volunteered', 25 died during the surgery, 18 had cyberpsychosis and had to be put down, and another 7 died for various reasons during the week after the process is finished. We need to observe them for a little longer but then they shall be ready."

Rose was surprised by the numbers herself. Full borg conversions led to cyberpsychosis 97% of the time according to Jason. But with the elites that Talia gave her, they had a rate that was under 50%. This showed just how mentally strong the members of the League of Shadows were.

"Then since you all are handling them, I shall have my forces deal with the Kroloteans. They do not have the same level of power as the others so we won't need any reinforcements," Talia decided that they may as well clear the board all at once. She also needed to continue showing the prowess of her League of Shadows so those loyal to the League of Assassins did not make any foolish moves that would disrupt her plans.

"Alright. Klarion, we will need your assistance in distracting the Justice League. Although they are focused on those running rampant in the streets, we can never be too careful."

"Hehehe. No worries there, Vandal. A few of my friends have been planning some fun stuff and been waiting for the right opportunities. We will make sure that no else gets involved."

In just a few minutes, the entire world's fate had been shifted by this small group of 6 without anyone knowing. Nor would they ever know.
