30 Side Story: Passive Income

David had nothing to do, not a damn thing, he had already worked out for the day, and any more wouldn't be good for his natural growth and gains. He could work on something at the factory but he didn't feel like driving that distance.

He was going to eventually make an underground tunnel to streamline the drive there to cut down on time, but it wasn't even half done for now.

He could try and steal a flying AV and make it his own, but there was a lot of bullshit that came with doing flight planning and keeping it safe... It'd be something to look into later, he could make fast bikes or fast cars... But fast AVs? He could be anywhere he wanted to be incredibly quickly.

...Should he make a jet? If he really wanted speed across the world, that'd be the one...

He'd look into it later.

For now, he decided to gain something that would give him a bit of passive income that didn't require him to steal, kill, or hack into someone's account, why? Why not.

Not wanting to bother with it in his own Megabuilding since he planned to move anyway, he bought out a Megabuilding in Watson, making him the 'Manager' of it.

Doing so brought a lot of things to his attention, whoever was in charge of it previously pretty much-ignored complaints about anything.

As he sat on his couch with his vidboard messing with everything, he began to automate certain requests. Such as trash requests, cleaning requests, window cleaning requests, and other similar requests. Filing all the repair requests to the side as he would do it himself since people who repaired anything usually liked charging far more than an arm and a leg.

He quickly went through the internet finding certain companies he could partner with, cleaning companies, trash movers, so on so forth.

Going through with them he would make things work automatically, they would receive the request from the automated system, and said the system would pick a time and date for the job to get done, letting the tenant know.

Standing from his couch he rode the elevator down to his personal garage.

Once he was in Bast he gave her a once over, including cleaning her before he hopped in and drove towards Little China, the subdistrict his new property was in.

It didn't take him long to get there, walking around the building and noting the damage to the building either from time, or just people being reckless.

He added everything to a note that became longer and longer as he looked through everything. When he was in a position no one would see him, and nothing would record him he would use the nanites to consume trash around, reworking and turning the materials into things he could use to repair the building, and then doing so.

Eventually, he got around to where the elevator was, heading to the fifth floor where the office was located.

The door slid open and locked behind him, he had chosen to come in around lunchtime, so everyone was out. Only one part of the office seemed to be in use and the only personal thing there was a picture so he set that outside the door and then formally fired the person working there, basically making him the only 'staff' that took care of the whole building.

He bought a megabuilding because, in the name, it was huge. There were stores, stands, apartments, suits, and a lot of things he could gain money from, was it a fixer-upper? Sure, as was the entirety of Night City.

...Should he eventually take over Night City?

Thoughts for future him.

With a shrug he cleaned the office, removing everything not needed, including walls that were used to separate the offices, making one larger office, it wouldn't be used often since he would make mostly everything automated with him only doing things that required him to actually be present.

Making a chair and a table for himself he reclined back, putting his feet onto the table as he continued to cycle quickly through all the requests.

There was one that interested him, a gun store on the seventh floor asking to knock down the wall to unused apartments and make a gun range.

The contract there was well written out, The owner basically offered more money a month, including the three apartments they would take out, and they would pay for it all, as long as they were given permission from the Manager.

David signed it while sending notifications to the apartments above and below the store letting them know that they might feel the occasional shake, and that was simply due to ongoing construction.

All the tenants who used the apartments above and below worked during the day, and he immediately got an okay from one of them, moving onto the other requests now that he got that out of the way.

A boxing ring? Sure, they could use the empty space on the seventh floor to turn it into a gym with weights and a boxing ring.

More money was more money, and it would attract bigger guys to the building.

Bigger guys sometimes meant bigger problems, but it also meant fewer people willing to bother the building itself.

David scratched his chin as he continued to go through the requests.

Coming to the 'Upper Fifty' which was classified by most megabuildings as the 'Fancy' areas where the rich lived, David noticed that most requests were simply for their own personal elevator, which didn't require them to use the elevator of the 'lower-class.' as well as their own garage.

Both technically already existed, but the previous manager had let the elevator that acted as that and lead to that garage fall into disrepair.

Standing up he walked out with his Vidboard still in his hands, coming face to face with a woman that had reached down to pick up the picture.

As she noticed the door opening and David she scowled. ''You a new worker or something? What, the new manager like little boys?''

''One: I am the new manager. Two: I do not like little boys or girls for that matter. I like mature, crazy, psychopathic women who aren't afraid to get off during sex with a gun pointed at them, and Three: I fired you because of how many complaints there were centered around you trying to... 'Get a little Extra' You have Two minutes to remove yourself from the premises, or the two patrol cars outside will take a mighty fine interest in taking you 'downtown.''' David said without blinking, causing the woman to stare at him for a moment before her hand raised to try and strike him.

David's face became confused as he pulled his head back to avoid the slap. Before jerking his head forward and busting her nose with his forehead as she fell to the ground.

David still looked confused as she fell to the ground with a yell, holding her nose as she glared up at him, his brows raised. The genuine confusion in his voice only further hammered his point.

''Why waste time hitting me? The elevator takes a minute to get down to the first floor, not talking about if the elevator is even ON this floor... You got a minute 40.''

The woman's eyes widened because it was simple. If David was willing to break her nose, what's getting her arrested? Watching her stand and run away, David watched a few moments before he used his Neuralwear to make sure the Elevator would not be on this floor, as well as making sure the cops were notified of a woman that caused a disturbance, able to rack up multiple bullshit charges.

Why did David go out of his way to do this?

Pettiness really, nothing more, nothing less. She tried to hit him, Equal Rights, Equal Fights. It COULD be said he already returned it by breaking her nose, but a few weeks in prison getting her holes resized would go a long way into helping David handle the emotional trauma of the audacity of that bitch.

Taking the stairs he made it all the way up to the Upper Fifty, from there he had the nanites clean him and his clothing so he didn't track anything up from the lower floors, walking across the many far fancier hallways, apartments, and the lack of trash everywhere he made his way to where the elevator doors were.

Putting his Vidboard into his jacket, he wiggled his fingers into the crack of the elevator doors before using his arms to slowly open the doors. The first thing he noticed was a few sparks falling from higher up.

Once he got into the elevator, holding onto the thick cables that held the elevator he pulled out his vidboard.

Going to the electrical problems, he noticed a few people had complained about their lights bursting or flickering.

He put the board back into his jacket and then began to climb up the cables until he came to a large junction box, opening it was easy as he simply used the nanites to create a copy of the key to the lock used. Adding it to a new keychain.

Once he got the junction opened, he noticed a few circuits blown. Using nanites he had them travel through the entirety of the Megabuilding, fixing the wires behind the walls, all the way to other junction boxes, fixing old wiring, circuits and switches all the way back to finding the reason why the short happened in the first place.

Seemed a Netrunner had tried to add more 'Juice' and ended up frying themselves in the tub, the overload having flipped a lot of things.

It was in the lower-class apartments so he put in a cleaning request for that room.

Afterward he checked the generators and everything else, adding a few more junction boxes that could handle large voltage so it wouldn't happen again.

After he fixed everything, he kept watch of it all in as it all began to come back online. Seeing everything going alright he began to travel up the cables once more all the way to the top of the building where the elevator was stuck.

When the power had gone out, the emergency brakes activated, locking it in place. Thankfully when it happened no one was in the elevator, but he did still clean it up, fixing the displays and everything else to make it look pristine for the 'Upper Fifty.'

Once he made sure the elevator was working, he kept it off and slid down the cables, using Nanites to clean any wear and tear on them as well as the elevator shaft all the way down to the garage.

Once he got to the garage he noticed everything was fine other than some trash so he cleaned it all up, using it to repair a few of the cracks showing.

Since he was in the lowest part of the building he pulled out his vidboard once more, using his nanites to make it into a holographic display as he had a massive swarm of nanites leave him and began to 'Deep' scan the entirety of the building, it's surrounding the foundation and everything else around. Letting the Nanites begin to repair the damages they could without getting seen, as well as all the internal structural damage.

The foundation and ground below were still perfectly fine so at least he didn't need to worry about that.

Once he finished that all, he sent a notification to the Upper Fifty that the elevator and garage were now accessible again.

It wasn't even five minutes later that he saw a Delamain pull in and the elevator ding. Using nanites to hide his presence was easy, simply because he wasn't sure if Delamain's servers were secure enough, and because he didn't want 'Everyone' to know he was the manager yet.

His brows shot up as he noticed Faraday walk out of the elevator, looking around before he gave a nod, getting into the cab and it driving off.

Well... Either Faraday had business in the building, or he lived here... How funny would that be?
