1 Prologue

October 19th

The smell of firewood and s'mores filled the evening air, groups of teenagers all happily chatting among themselves while they enjoy their last school field trip to Camp Lakewood. The cool night air began to settle in, bodies making their way over to the warmth of the fire pit, exchanging hellos and gossips.

"If everyone would like to make their way to the fire pit for ghost stories and s'mores, to get the best seat in the house, I suggest you all to move quickly." The only female team leader spoke up while she mingled with the students.

Clements High School decided that a weekend away to a camp would be the best thing for the students as they were transitioning into their last year of CHS. Seventeen year olds with fire and hardly any adult supervision isn't the greatest choice in the world, but they were smart, most of them were anyway. Princes and Princess' from all over the city attended this high school.

"I'll go grab a space for us all." A young tall, semi-built boy spoke up to his friends. He disappeared into the crowd while the rest of the group waited for one of the girls.

"Oskar, go watch Eli before he ends up burning the whole camp down with its own fire." A black haired, lean built boy spoke up to the third male in their friendship group.

The group consisted of three guys and two girls. One of the girls finally showed their face that evening, the four students made their way over to the fire pit where they found their two friends sitting on a log that was only big enough to fit five people on.

"There isn't enough space for everyone to sit." A 5'4 Brunette broke the silence, she knew Maxim's friends didn't like her friend, Alina. They despised her friend, they studied hard to get into their dream uni while she didn't have to do anything.

"Shame." Eli answered her before stuffing a marshmallow into his mouth, he couldn't stand Alina and he wasn't afraid to show them that he didn't like her.

Maxim didn't like that answer, he knew how his friends worked, as much as he didn't like Alina, he was best friends with her friend. "Elijah, move. Let Eve and Alina sit there." Elijah didn't like that his friend would stick up for her, mumbling under his breath as he moved onto the other side of Oskar.

Geneviève sat down beside Maxim, crossing her arms over her chest as the breeze went straight through her sweater. "It's fucking freezing out here." This earned her a chuckle from Maxim, being the gentleman that he was, Max took his jacket off and handed it to her.

"Thank you." She whispered as the team leader began to tell them ghost stories, the lamest ones they had already heard before.

Oskar raised his hand forgetting that he was no ,longer in a classroom, he wanted to share the story that he knew of, one that a family member of his survived. "I have one about the infamous Viper, the assassin." Everyone quietened down as he began to tell his story about his uncle who survived the craziness.

"So you're saying, your uncle survived this infamous assassin? Why did his wife hire someone to take him out?" Alina questioned, she gained an eyeroll from most of the students who were around the fire.

"She didn't want someone else having my uncle since they were going through a messy divorce. Love is a killer." Oskar shrugged lightly as he continued. "Apparently he smelled vanilla and cinnamon first before actually seeing a figure in the dark, he said it was weird because he didn't hear a noise up until he saw the figure, he heard what sounded like chains and heavy boots."

"Bullshit." Alina called out.

"BOOOO!" Elijah jumped out from the bushes, causing everyone and including Alina to scream, Maxim, Eli and Oskar laughed as Geneviève shook her head, trying to hide her laughter.

Oskar had a few more questions from people he hardly ever spoke to. 11pm rolled around and the team leaders told everyone that the curfew for outside was now up, all the guys stayed in one cabin while all the girls stayed in another.

Geneviève waited until the team leaders had done their checks before she made her way to the cabin that Maxim was staying in. She slipped in through the open window that Max had left open for her to climb in.

"Max?" Her voice quietly called out so she wouldn't wake the other guys who had actually gone to bed up, finding Maxim's bunk, she climbed under the covers to be face to face with the young boy that she was good friends with.

"Do you believe there's an assassin out there thats gotten away with these so called murders without being caught?" Geneviève peered up at him with her soft brown eyes.

"I'm not too sure, I want to believe there's an assassin out there, but I have my doubts." Geneviève nodded her head at his answer, she knew Maxim can be skeptical on things like this, she didn't want him to not believe that there wasn't someone out there capable of taking lives.

Maxim wanted to know more about this Viper, but right now he was happily cuddled up with his best friend. The smell of her started to making him slowly fall out of consciousness, the sweet smell of cinnamon and vanilla.
