3 Chapter 3 Heartache

It took just under 2 hours to reach Palm Beach. The landing tower of St Helens was empty so it was easy to land the helicopter. Jonathan had 15 minutes to land and take off to find some other place to park his helicopter. It needed to be clear for any emergencies.

Mark helped Sara out whilst Jenny gathered all there things and followed after them. They rushed towards emergency department. The receptionist told them all the family had been taken to ICU on the 3rd floor. Sara's heart pounded in her chest she felt her world was caving in, she was lost all she could think of and pray of was for her family to be OK.

They exited the lift on 3rd floor and rushed towards the nurses station. They found two nurses discussing patients and as soon as they saw Sara the were quite. Sara rushed over "please can you give me information about my family? I'm Sara Black daughter of Natalie and Kay Black. How are my parents and my twin brother and sister?"

"I'm sorry Sara the doctors are still inside helping them and trying to stableise them as soon as they are finished they will come and speak to you. Nurse Jackson will inform them that you have arrived". Explained the nurse.

"please just tell me they are OK please" Sara pleaded.

"I'm sorry Sara I have no information or updates on your family as the doctors are all dealing with it all". The nurse continued. "I'm sorry i will get them to come and speak to you as soon as they are free" after speaking she rushed off towards the emergency room in ICU.

Jenny comforted Sara and told her to wait and sit down and someone would be out soon. Sara had a bad feeling something was wrong.

"there's something wrong Jenny! I feel it! I need to know I'm going to get some answers" as soon as she said this Sara got up and walked towards the emergency room.

She opened the room door and entered. There lying on the bed was her father fighting for his life. He had received 45% burns and inhaled a lot of smoke which he was finding difficult to breath. The doctors were helping to clean and cover his burns as well as trying to open his airway so that he could breath easily.

"hey you can't be in here! Please wait outside and we will come and get you" a nurse came rushing towards her.

"I'm his daughter please save him."

As soon as Sara spoke the machines started to beep louder.

Her father stopped breathing and his heart had stopped.

Another doctor appeared and rushed around to save Kay and Sara stood as a statue in a daze as they all tried to save her father.

She just stood staring unable to hear anything and was then ushured out by a nurse. It was a while as they waited patiently for some news. Sara had lost track of time.

A doctor came out to the nurses station and spoke to one of the nurses. They spoke for a while and then the nurse pointed towards Sara and her friends.

He was tall, quite skinny looking man, there was a look of worry in his eyes. He seemed quite young to be a doctor as he walked towards them.

"Hello I'm Dr Harrison and I would like to speak to Sara" . Sara was standing and she stepped forward, she quickly asked,

"Is my father OK?"

Dr Harrison looked down and answered "we tried our best but I'm sorry to say we couldn't save him. His injuries were quite sevear and his heart wasn't strong enough. The smoke damaged his lungs and he found it difficult to breathe. I'm sorry Sara your dad is no more".

A scream echoed through the whole hospital as Sara collapsed to the floor tears streaming down her face. "no he can't leave me, how can he leave us? What do you mean he had a weak heart? He is fitter than than all of us here?"

Jenny held on to her and cried with her, Mark hugged both in his embrace.

Jenny pov

My heart ached for Sara I just didn't know what to do or say to her. I just held her as she broke in tears in my arms. I looked up to Mark for some comfort and he just came over and hugged us both.

"I'm so sorry Sara, I can't believe it."

I looked up to see Jonathan eyes filling up with tears he didn't know what to do or say he just stood there.
