17 CHAPTER #17:Lady x Sword?

A week after our arrival the letters were exchanged between Eirlyn and me. She gave me the news that would be considered somewhat reassuring.

"She will join the Academy of Nobles after I am of age to enter."

"Is that so?" Lucien wiped off the sweat and placed his spear that looked like a naginata the Japanese version of the spear that was used in ancient Japan.

"Brother are these kind of weapons normally used in the empire?" I asked out of curiosity.

"No, they are imported to the empire. They are the best weapons in the continent produced by a small kingdom in the eastern part of the continent. Amazing isn't it?"

"Yes, it is. Did father bring this?"

"Yes, however weapons like these are not preferred in our country." he picked up the glass of water.

"Why is that?"

"Because due to the current state affairs both nations are at odds with each other. This is why it will also be a problem since the era of guns and canons is rapidly making its way ultimately replacing these weapons."

"So will they be useless?" I implored.

"I don't think so. Since the guns won't always be helpful."

"I see."

"What about you Luna?"

"Me?"

"Yes, do you have any interest in combat?"

"Why would a lady do something like that?" I asked confused.

"For self-defense of course." He replied putting back the empty glass on the bench and signaled the knights.

"Well now that you asked about it..." I pondered.

Since I can't lift a heavy sword as I might break off my fragile arms and I don't want my hands to be calloused. That was out of my options. As for archery, I did like to do it however I was the worst at long ranges.

"Hmmm,"

"Did something come to mind?" he looked at me.

"Nothing fits me exactly. If it's for self-defense then it's a given that I should choose something for close combat. Perhaps a small blade or a dagger?"

"A dagger?" he raised his brow.

"But it's not elegant that a lady carries a dagger around. People might think that I am a mad killer or will mistake me for an assassin."

"That is true." Lucien took out a dagger from the sheath that was tied to his thigh.

"First off...the weapon should be concealed into something which a lady normally uses."

"And that might be."

"Wait I am thinking." I interrupted him.

I crossed my arms and began processing various possibilities in my mind.

-"Jewelry? It would be good to use it but it would be weird to take it off and use it in front of a person. So no. Not shoes. Not hair accessories...Accessories!!"

"A hand fan!" I exclaimed in delight.

"That's perfect!" I cried out.

"A what?"

"Brother Lucien. I got it."

"?"He looked at me clueless about what I was talking about. So I had to go through the trouble of explaining to him what I meant.

" Since noble ladies always carry a hand fan with them. Be it at home or a party, why not make a fan using blades?"

"Hmmm, not a bad idea." He smiled and patted my head.

"I will give out the order for custom-made weapons."

"Please leave the design to me," I said delightedly.

"We are lucky father runs a business for the empire's weapons." He got up and picked up his spear.

"My lord the break's been over for quite some time now." a knight called out.

"What the hell. They will always drag me to the grounds when I am with my lovely baby sister."He grumbled.

I found it creepy but this was a cute side of him as well.

" Well, it will take some time for the order to be taken up. So until then, you will have to stand by."

"I understand. But you better go or your instructor is likely to lose his patience." I warned him and glanced at a well-built man in his forties impatiently looking at us.

"Fine fine.Looks like Luna also decided to abandon her poor brother in a barren land."

"Aren't you being quite poetic today?"

I asked him irritated. I didn't care how he felt. I just want to protect myself and secure the future ahead of me.

"Just go already." I gave a slight push from behind.

I could see him walking off with a sullen face.

"He could be scary sometimes."

I remembered when Alexander tried to approach me and the time when he brought down the baker on the city street in one blow.

I shrugged to get rid of the fear. I prayed not to get on his bad side even by mistake.

The rest of the afternoon I watched him train. After January, he would leave for the academy once again to start with a new year there.

"Just one more year to go and I will also enter that place. Then I can take my place before Phanessa will arrive."

Since in the original book, Luna entered the Academy at the age of fourteen.

"This time I will draw the social circle around me. The families of higher status are already associated with me." I smiled.
