11 Complimentary Improvement

"Back to the topic at hand. Becoming a representative and staying in that position from beginning to end is nothing easily dismissed. It may not seem as such but as you get older the more competitive the students get. Only those of the highest rank get noticed after all."

"Understandable. Those looking for proper investment in a school would want only the strongest-"

"As such," he interrupted, ignoring and previous tenderness that the third year might have held for the prince not even a second after their apologies. "Though the students may be the same from the previous years, it will not do you good to underestimate them.

A representative of Liber Academy, the most famed academy in the nation, has to hold themselves with certain conduct, as they are both representing the school and the kingdom. You will go out to meeting with those of both foreign and native origin and represent your kingdom with great honor.

You will help organise events for the students, and hold a guiding advise that students of your year will look to you for."

"So, basically, we just act like prince Amir over here, right?"

Rei's question was innocent enough, though causing great annoyance in Taylor, and hidden smugness from the ever mentioned prince.

"Yes…we all act like… prince Egon."

It clearly caused Taylor a great deal of pain to admit, however part of being a representative is understanding your mistakes and improving yourself upon it.

Taylor at first hadn't realised how much his careless actions could have cost him if in the presence of the king or queen, but as much as the silver annoyance before him made him want to bring his sword out, it will be a big mistake, and the punishment for such actions would be swift. Even so, Taylor could understand the dedication the crown prince had put into his studies, even if not seen, and can admire it so.

"Your next ranking exam will take place next week, the first one was already organised in advance by our sixth-year students, however as you are both new for the entirety of next month you will be shadowing one of the six-year students for your respective departments, to properly understand your work, and how to do it.

At the end of the month, the two of you will be in charge of organising the next ranking exam, as you must know that happen at the end of every month. If completed properly you will be granted a permanent position as a representative.

This school is all about ranking, and if you can manage everything to full capacity at once, you are out. This is what it means to be a representative for the students of Liber Academy!"

There was a heavy silence among the three in response to the largely passionate ending given by the Ronnald heir.

"Right *cough*, you should get going now! Come back next week where you will be introduced to the people you will be following. You, teachers, have already been notified, so don't feel the need to show up to class."

///

"Class, today we will be having a quick evaluation."

Quest murmurs suddenly filled the classroom of one Class A as they prepared themselves for the inevitable.

"It will be practical, and more a test on your understanding to perform previously discussed magic."

The desks were pushed to the side in preparation, showing that this was not as last minute a job as it may seem.

The prince sighed in what could only correlate to boredom, already understanding the commotion that his skills are likely to cause. Again.

"When your name is called up, please step to the front of the class and perform the various circles when called out. The amount of time taken and control of magic input and output are the main focus on this examination. I want to see that everyone can create a stable circle without much difficulty."

One by one, every student was called up. As this was a school-based mostly on rankings, students are never called out in groups from alphabetical order, but instead from lowest ranking to highest ranking. Allowing everyone to understand who was the best and who needed the most improvement from any group.

It was an easy motivation that often caused the low to mid-rank students from each group to be constantly shifting. The higher-ranks mostly staying the same, as natural talent and hard work being large necessities to stay at the top.

It eventually got to second rank. "Izziac Gunther, could you please step forwards?"

Izziac walked forward without further haste, meeting his teacher at the front.

"Summoning." In a second a circle was up and Izziac was holding a book, previously on a table at the back.

"Light." The teacher de-activated any lights in the classroom, the examinee creating the appropriate magic circle, specifically created small and compact, but lighting up the majority of the room with its bright runes.

The lights were back up, and everyone quietly applauded. "Water."

The cup handed to Izziac was steadily filling up with water, as the magic above it collected all moisture from the atmosphere, converting it into the drinkable liquid, and dropping it into the cup. A convenient but draining technique. More old-fashioned compared to the newer magic for the subject.

"Very good, Mr Gunther. Your casting speed has much improved since your coming to this school. Finally, can we have Amir Egon come to the front?"

The applaud from Izziac quickly died down as everyone settled in to watch their resident prince in his practice exam.

"First, fire."

His handed torch quickly caught on fire, the circle creating it limiting it only to the very tip of the stick.

"Next, water."

The teacher didn't bother collecting the active torch, instead, watching as the small circle disappeared, another quickly appealing and raining water upon the top before the fire could travel down.

"Lastly, gravity."

The students gasped, understanding that their teacher wanted to see her student's improvement on the magic that so-obviously failed him before.

Without further haste, a sense of deja-vu was formed as Amir placid his hand in a large magic circle, causing the books in front of him to hover to his instructions, but nothing else.

Letting out an unnoticeable sigh of relief Amir allowed himself to go back to his seat, basking in his victory in the magic that caused him much doubt.
