2 The Disability of Flight

It was when it was silent that she found her peace. When the air was cool and the atmosphere was just right. The wind blew gently, sort of whistling a little tune.

She was a normal human.

When she was young, she had a family. A group of people who cared and loved her. That didn't hold for long.

Like people said: 'Good things don't last'. To her, it was: 'Good things never last'. She was still bitter about the leaving of her family; how she was left there with nothing.

How the scientists took her in and said she would have a family again. And how they lied.

They gave her wings. They did daily operations on her. They cut into her nervous system and dismantled her legs so she could move her wings instead. The wings she didn't want. She was disabled, yet 'gifted' with a unique form of movement.

Flight.

They said it was a talent. A special gift.

To her, it was a disability. A pair of wings that separated her from the community. It was impossible to hide in the world because of them. They had made her life upside down and isolated her against the human population.

And then she came along.

Invited her, told her she understood.

She was too scared and didn't trust her, of course. She had gone through the process and wasn't going to make the same mistake.

The girl didn't do anything. They just existed together, day after day, neither acting OR doing anything at all.

The one with wings and the one with eyes that could see pass everything.

If this was a fairy tale, it would end with them both finding princes who would save them. However, this isn't a fairy tale.

Eventually, they did work together. A co-operation. That was all it was. Recruiting new people like them who were 'gifted' by the same group of scientist. Fighting back for who they were.

The one with eyes that could see pass everything and anything; her name was Tian Feng, translated into 'Sky Wind', she became the founder of the group of people who were gifted. The people who fought back.

And the one with wings that could go anywhere? Her name was Shen Ling. She eventually changed her name to Sterling; and she became the famous agent of the Skies League who fought back for everything they believed in. The girl who put wrong to right. Foxlynn.
