1 Rebirth - Chapter One

Cracks appeared in my vision as I slowly opened my ice coloured eyes, I knew that the colour was a rarity, it represented something deep within me, a key to a never ending lock, a lock to a door that can only be pushed open from the inside. I stood on the opposite side of the door with despair filling my heart just as quickly as I was drowning from the water within my lungs.

"C… o… me," A distant voice hummed as its distant words sounded like static within my mind.

The muffled words triggered something within me as my body pulsated, causing my soul to quiver and weep as if in a deep mourning. The ice surrounding my body began to liquefy and grew steadily warm as if I were a babe within her mother's womb.

Shadows danced upon my clouded vision as the forms steadily took shape to produce images, images that grew my blood cold and awoke an endless hatred deep within my soul. The world shifted from around me as the icy chill from the surrounding ocean suddenly engulfed my entire body in an endless fury. The sun above me faded into a pitch-black nothingness as a figure stood above me, staring down into my very soul with numbed hatred embodying his soul.

He was a monster with the eyes that I should have been born with, the thoughts played upon my new and innocent eyes as my salty tears molded with the frigid waters that surrounded me.

If only I had looked more like him, I thought bitterly as the water soon filled my lungs as I choked on the shards of ice that surrounded me.

"C… o… me," The voice pleaded again, the urgency behind its words growing more prevalent as I attempted to ignore it.

My eyes finally shot open revealing beautiful and deep black opal like, the universe itself seemed to reside within my irises as I slowly glanced around at my surroundings. The area surrounding me appeared illuminated as a faint and heavenly glow vibrated from my body. I slowly lifted my head, the sudden movement caused the thin layer of ice framing my face to steadily crack until the thin shards gave way. I sluggishly glanced around at my surroundings only to find my muscles refusing to move and the blood in my veins as cold as ice.

I squinted as the sun beat down from above me and pierced the motionless ocean that had been my home for centuries. The rays from the sun tore into my sensitive corneas that had only known the emotionless dark sea of unconsciousness, a deep and empty void that knew nothing but pain, anger, and resentment.

Caoimhe.

My head shot upwards as the gentle voice rang in my ears more clearly now then ever, it was like a sickeningly sweet lullaby, the tone was enchanting and called forth to me with a knowing urgency. I reached my arm upwards towards the ice wall that separated me from the outside world. All I had known for centuries were the chilly undertow of the sea that had been my home. My feet were frozen together as if shackled to an invisible chain.

Caoimhe, the voice said clearer now as it ricocheted throughout my brain, causing the sea from around me to quiver and quake until the ice finally broke apart and revealed an opening to the surface just above my head.

Where am I? I thought to myself as the thought echoed throughout my mind just as clearly as the voice that was calling out to me.

I wanted out, to be free of the icy chains that had held me captive for centuries. It was at that moment that something deep within me awoke, the other half of my torn soul was desperately reaching out for me, something that I knew I had been waiting for my entire life.

Caoimhe, the voice called from the other side of the ice wall that separated me from the outside world.

The shimmering of the waves reflected upon my darkened pupils as I struggled to make out my surroundings only to experience a dull ache at the back of my head. My muscles restricted my movements as my blood remained frozen from within my body.

My soul felt cold and empty with an unknown feeling arising from the pits of my stomach, it only seemed to grow stronger.

I was a frozen corpse buried deep within the sea laying motionless with my lungs heavy from the ice that had burrowed deep within my very self. I parted my frozen lips slightly only to find my face threatening to crack and tear from the frigid waters. Something within me was screaming to be freed as I gazed longingly at the surface that appeared just a short distance away.

Am I dead? I thought to myself as my ebony coloured hair seemed to float lifelessly around my face.

I watched as the thickened ice that stood motionless above me slowly crumbled, the broken shards sinking from the surface of the ocean and sinking past my body just barely avoiding my flawless olive skin. What had once sealed me beneath the depths of the cold and harsh sea was now parting as the tides finally settled.

I should be dead.

My mind started to race as panic began to set in as I realized the reality of my situation. I was but a conscious being floating lifelessly within the deep void. I attempted to part my lips as my lungs grew desperate for air with only a simple quiver parting from the blue flesh that made my lips.

I need to get out of here, I thought to myself as I desperately fought for control over my own body.

I pushed my arms forward and kicked my legs until the world faded away and the sun pierced my corneas for the first time. I reached my hand out above me in a desperate attempt to reach the surface, the halo of the sky was within my vision calling for me in an enchanting tone. The sky went dark for a moment as the world faded away and into a blissful nothingness as something grabbed my outstretched hand and pulled me up.
