“Oh my, indeed. Now come on. We need to get moving. Our soulmates are waiting for us.”

Taking her hand in his, Tuxtax guided Em down to the ground.

They continued on in pregnant silence, chewing on their own thoughts.

“I miss her,” the centaur confessed with a sigh, breaking the silence.

“I know, Rix,” Em replied, reaching up to touch his bicep in comfort.

“But I feel I shouldn’t. I should be grateful for the time I had with her. That I should think it is enough that Surrufus lived. But it’s not.”

“I know, Rix,” Tuxtax replied, concerned.

“No one expects you to be grateful,” Em shot back. “You shouldn’t be grateful that those men slaughtered your wife. Rixa, they would have slaughtered Surrufus, too, if I hadn’t stopped them.”

“But you saved him,” he smiled tearily. “Thank all the gods above and below that you saved my boy.”
