1 What is Dao?

There are many of you who would ask, "I want to cultivate, but which path of dao should I follow?"

Before you ask that question, you should first ask what dao is.

Dao itself is just a way of life. Dao itself is just a way of doing things. Dao itself is the description of an action.

If one uses the sword, they are comprehending dao of the sword.

If one is writing a book, they are comprehending the dao of writing.

If one is pondering endlessly about life, they are comprehending the dao of life.

Look to your left, and you will see dao.

Look to your right, and you will also see dao.

Dao is everywhere. Dao is anything.

The first meaning of dao is justifying what action one is doing. The second meaning of dao is how much one comprehends their action.

Dao is everything and anything, but each dao has their own rankings.

In this chapter, we will only cover two ranks of dao. We will only be doing so because you will only be able to do so much as a mortal.

Mortal dao can be separated into two categories: Human and Earth.

Human rank daos are of the lowest rank in the world. They are ranked as such because any human can comprehend those daos.

For example, one can read a book, or one can lift weights.

Simple things are categorized with the Human Rank Daos. If one is able to understand the texts of a book, they are increasing their comprehension of The Dao Of Reading. If one is finding it easier to lift weights, they are increasing their comprehension in The Dao Of Strengthening.

Earth rank daos are something much different. Using a previous example, we can see that Dao of the Sword is part of this ranking.

Dao of the Sword is part of the Earth ranked daos because not all mortals can master it. Not all mortals are meant to master it.

Anyone can swing a sword, but everyone cannot understand the reasoning behind each swing of the sword.

If you're trying to comprehend dao of the sword, you must first understand why you're swinging the sword. You must have a reason to swing the sword. Just wanting to master the Sword Dao will not help you step into Dao of the Sword's path.

If you really must choose a dao, choose one that you can follow with all your heart.
