6 Tropes

As he looked at the silver pieces on the table, Doc was confused at first. He looked around the inn and saw everyone staring at their meals. It seemed that no one was willing to get involved.

Looking at the young man who flung the silver at him and then at the weapons at their side; Doc got up.

He placed the silver into his coin bag, picked up his food and drink, and left. The young man sat down, pleased. Soon, the inn returned to its noisy din.

[Doctor Garrick, you have encountered "Forced Reservation" a trope often encountered in restaurants. You chose a non-typical solution to the problem and earned 4 points!]

Not speaking, Doc stood against a wall and finished his meal. Afterward, he returned to his room.

Sitting on the bed, Doc closed the windows and drew the curtains.

"Okay VICKI, I want to create a character."

[Shall I walk you through the character creation process?]

"Please."

A screen appeared before him titled Character Creator (0 of 3). A rotating character appeared on screen in plain robes, it was a human, but he noticed there were a variety of creatures he could choose from. The rotating human was in the middle, while on each side of it were cards that depicted those from other races.

[The Character Creator allows you to create your playable characters. Not only can you choose humans, but there are many different races worldwide. Every race has its strengths and weaknesses.]

"Not bad, it's like a lot of games I've played before. Pretty intuitive."

[The UX is based on the games saved in my memory that you played. You are free to change the interface in whatever way you wish to in the future. Everything is drag and drop.]

After playing with the creator for a little while, he made his first playable character.

There were 8 playable races available. Doc looked at each one. The names weren't familiar, other than the human, but they sounded interesting.

"Hmm. Each of these races is interesting.

Human: One of the largest races on the planet. Humans are known for having a large number of descendants, and wisdom, and are the most adaptable. They can be found anywhere in the world. Able to specialize and use the abilities of the other races.

Djinto: A spirit race that originated from a Djinn who was granted freedom. Their bodies are about as strong as humans, but they excel in spirit arts. Their arts often focus on the control of spirits, and animals, and create special spirit weapons to use with their martial abilities.

Apep: A lizard-like race of humanoids. They engage in war constantly and have the highest birthrate out of all races. They are thought to be the humanoid descendants of dragons. One of the strongest races. They are beings of chaos and destruction, and many races hire them as mercenaries. Exceedingly greedy and selfish.

Xian: These are another spirit race with lifespans beginning around 10,000 years. Some call them natural immortals. Like the Djinto, they excel in spirit arts, and mastery of mental arts sometimes known as Mind Mages.

Sidhe: A collective term for the Fae'ri races. The most common variety is around the size of humans. They are born with wings on their back, close to nature, and tend to work in professions that make good use of their affinity for nature.

Akkalu: One of the three foreign races, their origins are beyond this world. Known for an affinity towards metal works and artifacts. They are very strong much like the Apep; their skin is greyish green and have bulky physiques.

Khasu: The second of the foreign races. Known for their ability to use sigils, glyphs, and runes. Their arrays, talismans, and formations are the best. Respected by all races and treated like treasures. They are thin, tall, and have bald heads. Considered beautiful by most races. They love teaching and discovering new things.

Barberro: The third of the foreign races. They have the strongest martial arts but tend to live independently of one another. They believe strength is truth. They look like humans but have red irises.

"Interesting. The easiest would be to become a human plus humans have the most versatility. Although, it would be more interesting to be of a different race."

[There is a 98% chance that you will choose a non-human species, Dr. Garrick.]

"Oh really VICKI?" Doc laughed.

"Then which race do you predict I will choose?"

[In order of most likely to least likely you are likely to choose.

1. Khasu-49%

2. Barberro-13%

3. Xian-10%

4. Djinto-9%

5. Sidhe-8%

6. Akkalu-6%

7. Apep-3%

8. Humans-2%

The reason you will most likely choose Khasu is because your interests align with their abilities. You already have military training, so the Barberro aren't very likely. The others hold a particular interest in one or two aspects, but none of them can compare to the Khasu.]

"When you put it like that, I suppose I don't have any choice but to choose the Khasu," Doc laughed as he selected the Khasu race. He worked meticulously to choose the facial features, the build of the body, and all of the other details.

He was finally ready and clicked "Finished." The next screen asked if he would like to begin with story mode or leap into action. He chose story mode and hit "Launch."

It was surprising when nothing happened. Doc looked around and didn't understand why he was still in the hotel room. He looked at the screen and noticed a flashing red notification.

[Insufficient Trope points 13/100]

"It costs 100 Trope Points to play?!" Doc Garrick was shocked when he looked at the number of points.

[When each playable character is launched for the first time, it costs 100 trope points. After the first time all subsequent fees for playing are only 10 trope points.]

"I have to pay trope points to play?"

[You will use trope points for many things. It's important to gather as many trope points as possible.]

"How long is it going to take me to gather 100 points?" Doc asked in disbelief.

[Unknown]

"What should I do to get trope points?"

[Take a walk, and maybe cause trouble.]
