4 Investigation pt 2

A few more months went by and Feras had begun to sleep more regularly and his appetite had grown along with his body, regular workouts had made his body strong and thus he had become a rather strapping youth at the age of thirteen.

He hadn't stolen anymore corpses as of yet but he had managed to work out a few spells, it was difficult as there was no one who could teach him about this path. The government had long since removed books on such subjects from the public eye, those who knew of such Dark arts were in constant hiding and wouldn't reveal themselves so easily but that was fine with Feras. He would much rather work out his own Magus formula and have no one able to break his casting but during these few months the knowledge from the Sphere was becoming more in tune with his mind allowing his spell crafting to go much smoother.

Knocking on the door had interrupted the youth again as he was writing something down in one of his many journals.

'Who could it be this time' thought Feras though he was certain he knew the answer.

With a wave of his hand his journals disappeared into a peculiar little ring, this was something he had thought of in case another Magus had come to investigate. They would be able to decipher his notes and thus he would be taken into custody for performing the Dark arts. It wouldn't do for his work to be interrupted just because the laws of these ignorant people forbid his studies and experiments.

Another series of knocks brought him from his Laboratory/Library as he walked down the stairs to open the door.

"Hello" started Feras until he realized who was at the door.

It was Tullani, the old man who had taught his father and had attempted to take him under his wing as well. He stood there with heavy gaze, his body seemed to be injured as he handed over a letter.

"I am sorry it has come to this Feras, but it is clear to me that you have been practicing your magic well. I could feel the size of your Mana stream from outside while I was waiting" stated Tullani with business like monotone.

"What is this" asked Feras looking at the letter suspiciously.

"The country is at war and as such all able bodied Magus are being conscripted regardless of age, you will be trained under military personnel until you are seen to be fit for battle. I apologize for having to be the one to deliver this letter and tell you of this. I will be waiting here for you to pack your things" explained Tullani while Feras was just shocked, he couldn't believe he was being enlisted against his will.

'Do they know of my progress' wondered Feras frightened by that prospect.

"Hurry along, I still have others I need to enlist in the Civil Army" stated Tullani as he watched Feras look at the letter in shock.

Feras however contrary to Tullani's expectation's opened the letter on the spot to read its contents.

'Feras Strom

The Magus corps has seen fit to offer you the opportunity to enlist despite age restrictions upon the recommendation of Tullani Acros, he has stated and shown great confidence in your Magus ability. Understand you are not being conscripted as the founding principles of the nation do not allow a child to go to war but the merit achievable through battle is something many would find desirable and beneficial to their future growth as a Magus. It is with this intent that we give you this offer. We of the Magus corps ask that you send your response with Tullani who has requested to deliver this letter on our behalf, we hope to hear your response at the earliest convenience.

Signed the Master Magus of the Corps' read Feras before looking at Tullani who seemed to understand he was in a bad position at this moment.

"Be gone with you drivel you conniving old man" sneered Feras crumpling the 'Letter of Conscription' before tossing it at the man.

Tullani couldn't believe that Feras would be so suspicious as to actually read the letter on the spot, he had thought with the countenance he had delivered the letter it wouldn't require such an action. However he couldn't help the look that came across his face from being talked down to by someone so young as his Mana began to build.

"Boy, you dare speak to a senior Magus in such a tone" stated Tullani with discontent as frost built around him but his face suddenly took on a pale pigment when he felt his spell broken before it could cast.

Feras was no fool, he could sense the Mana building and had used his knowledge from the sphere to poke a hole in the stream disrupting the flow and causing a backlash. He took pleasure seeing the old Man pale from the injury he had likely taken as a result before sneering again.

"I dare to speak like this because you are no senior of mine, you are merely a delusional, whimsical fool who can't seem to understand when you are not wanted nor needed. Your paltry understanding of your own flaws is what has allowed me, a mere youth to disrupt your Mana flow and mandates my derision." stated Feras but internally he couldn't help but find his success at disarming a Senior Magus to be surprising.

'Most likely due to underestimating my ability because of the age difference' thought Feras as he shut the door leaving Tullani there to stare in shock, he hadn't expected such a young Free hand Mage to be so able. Usually they didn't start to show their prowess until a later age, thus the reason for his surprise as he left to go and regulate his Mana.

Magus could fall into several categories depending on the way the performed their spell craft.

There were many different kinds of Magus, there Mystic Bladesman who used their weapons to channel magic into their techniques instead of the traditional methods of spell casting. These were followed by Conductors who used mediums to cast spells similar to the Mystic Bladesman in only that aspect, their ability required a medium correlative to their respective branch of Magic in order to get the most effect out of their spells. Following them were the Spell Speakers who used their magic through incantations, the stronger and more skilled of these group could activate a spell with a single syllable. Then came the Enchanters who were a rather tricky bunch as their symbols very rarely corroborated making it difficult to decode their magic, their spells came in the form of letters and symbols specific to them that gave regular items amazing destructive or protective abilities. Then there were Alchemists who through mixing different substances were able to create deadly gadgets and potions, they were as tricky as the Enchanter's and much more fickle. Finally there were the Free Hand Magus, this is the type that Feras and his Father were. Able to cast spells simply by molding their Mana in a specific way they could reek havoc on their opponents, the best of these Magus could mold their Mana in an instant while Feras's father had possessed an even more incredible ability.

He was able to perform his spells without molding his Mana but there were many who refuted it by saying that it was molded too fast to be sensed but either of these things were terrifying as it was nearly impossible to fight against such a person.

With Feras however he hadn't made it to the second floor before he heard a second set of knocks coming from the door. Sighing to himself he made the march back down the stairs and opened the door only to find the Officer's from before.

"We regret to inform you that your father's case has gone cold with no suspects we have no choice but to end the investigation until something new pops up. We will keep you informed and once again apologize for this inconvenience" reported the leading Officer causing Feras to take on a gloomy persona while internally he was bubbling with excitement.

'It seems good things come to those who wait' chuckled Feras internally.

"Thank you officer, I would like to bid you good day. I wish to be alone" stated Feras softly as if truly mourning.

"We understand, I hope something comes up and we can reopen the case" stated the officer before saying his goodbye and leaving with his fellow officers in tow.

"It seems the time has come to test out my Spell work, where better to do so than in the midst of war" chuckled the Dark youth.
