28 Life Bind

Kong Xiang's grandfather had once told him that humans were capable of great intelligence, yet once blinded by greed, would become most gullible and foolish.

From his seating spot, Kong Xiang had the privilege of witnessing firsthand human nature at its finest. All the cultivators present were scheming, fighting, backstabbing each other in a bid to occupy one of the eighty one spots available. Most of it was already occupied, so the rest were at loggerheads at who would occupy the rest.

An intelligent person would think twice about getting into a runic formation segment when others that entered it showed no reaction upon entering and couldn't move, particularly when attention had been called to this fact. But no, it seemed everybody was on steroids and didn't give a damn about any possible dangers.

In truth, Kong Xiang thought too little about how tempting such an inheritance was to lower level cultivators. If the inheritance of a Cyclic Core expert could give one the chance to reach that realm, then the chance to obtain the inheritance of a cultivator of most likely Half Step Soul Embryo cultivation wasn't just an opportunity, it was a life changing shortcut to ascend through the cultivation ranks. Forget the fact that Kong Xiang and Li Luo leveled up and broke through so quickly, even the youngest among the present cultivators was 31 years old and at the 4th level of Origin Refinement. Cultivators at the Cyclic Core Realm at age thirty like Ding Xiaolong were considered quite rare, not to talk of sixteen years old monsters at such high realms like Kong Xiaolong and Li Luo. Thanks to cultivation, everybody looked young, and nobody took special notice of their youthful looks. Life signatures could only be sensed by Half Step Soul Embryo Realm and above.

As for Li Luo's disappearance, some people present had seen the man in white suddenly appear, grab her and take off. After careful thought, Kong Xiang had calmed down about this. He was familiar with the tool in his hand, having seen many of such in his clan. It was the Descendant-Seeking-Compass. It used the blood of anyone to find their descendants within a particular area. Kong Xiang could easily guess that Li Luo probably had a greater ancestry than she knew, and an Ancestor somewhere in family line had taken notice of her. Kong Xiang didn't need to take a second look at the smug face of the white clad man that he viewed everybody else as inferior shit and would definitely not consider saving anyone else, himself included. In fact, he guessed that if Li Luo pleaded on his behalf, he would gain some sort of sadistic pleasure at his superiority and still refuse to help.

No matter what, Kong Xiang knew Li Luo was safe, which brought him back to his problem. Right now, only two seats were left and only seven people remained, with dozens of bodies soaked in a bloody mess lying scattered everywhere. Once all segments were filled up, they would be activated, at the expense of their lives.

As for the possibility that this might be a real inheritance, Kong Xiang didn't consider it. His intuition told him that the farther he got away from here, the better.

Finally, all the spots were filled up. The triumphant duo rushed into the segments and claimed it.

As soon as they entered, their bodies stiffened. At the same time, the eighty-one segments lit up, each displaying runic patterns that linked together to form a mysterious symbol.

Right now, there was not one among the seventy something others not feeling regretful that they hadn't heeded the warning. As soon as they all entered the hubs, they could feel their vitality being channeled again little by little.

It was like watching at one's blood drip away drop by drop whilst tied up, having no choice but to await certain death in the end.

Chen Xiaowen didn't utilize his control over the subspace before to subdue the cultivators because all the cultivators could still choose to detonate, ruining his plans. Now that they had willingly entered a demonic formation that was empowered by this Manifestation level Seal Intent Comprehension, he had no need to be extra cautious anymore. Consequently, the runic patterns underneath the eighty-one cultivators started absorbing the blood from the slain, turning red. An incorporeal soul appeared at the center of the formation, exuding a soul crushing aura that caused the whole subspace to ripple intensely.

"First step, Life Bind" A voice sounded through the corners of the realm, causing Kong Xiang to wonder how it was possible, since a soul didn't have a physical voice.

Weird demonic symbols started crawling over the bodies of all eighty-one cultivators. A similar symbol formed at the center of the formation, enclosing Chen Xiaowen's soul.

"Second Step,..."
