Crown Of Hearts

***Together, they were like fire and ice.*** Damon pursued, ready to conquer while Alexander ran, trying so hard to remain cold and guarded. Alexander had thought guarding the sick crown prince was something so easy until he found himself cruelly yet so innocently tempted. ***excerpt*** "You will stay the hell away from me." Alexander threatened, his voice hard and tortured as he tried to recover from his emotional rollercoaster. "Oh really?" Damon drawled as he held up a wine glass to his lips, taking a sip as his eyes looked at the man that was standing quite a distance from him, ready to bolt. "Yes and I mean it your highness." Alexander replied and he watched the mischievous gleam that entered the prince's clear blue eyes that were quite a welcome compliment to his thick silver hair. "Alright." he relented and Alexander blinked, surprised but his relief lasted for seconds. "We will see how far you can run my honorable knight. Oh and just so you know, I love a good chase." Damon assured and it didn't take Alexander ages to know that he had close to no winning chance when it came to this one man. Oh yes, he was doomed...so sweetly doomed.... ... Things like?

"What do you mean?" Damon asked and Alexander nearly lost it as he clenched his hands into fists by his side.

"You know what I mean." He groaned and Damon shrugged.

"No, I don't. Why don't you tell what I am doing, Alexander?" He asked as he raised his spoon to his lips and drank some soup.

Alexander glared at him. He had never met someone so annoying yet... enticing.

Playing this game with Damon was going to take ages. His jaw clenched.

"Do you really want me to say it." He asked and Damon eagerly nodded.

"You... you are doing and saying things in an attempt to mess with my head." He accused.

Damon smirked.

"Things like?" He pressed on and a light blush covered Alexander's cheeks as he looked away from this prince.

Okay, he had had enough!

"May I get back to my post?" Alexander asked and Damon regarded him with an unfathomable gaze.

"Okay..." he shrugged and Alexander blinked in disbelief. He was not expecting him to relent.

He turned to leave.

"Only until you answer one question." Damon concluded and Alexander felt like he wanted to curse out loud.

What had he done to capture this man's attention!?

"What question?" Alexander asked as he stilled himself to turn and face him.

"On that night...did you feel anything?" Damon asked, a rare vulnerability flashing in his eyes before it quickly disappeared and got replaced with a tranquil calmness.

Alexander held his breath.

He knew this was important despite the prince's calmness. Alexander chose his next words very carefully.

"I don't really remember. I was drunk." He replied honestly and Damon lowered his eyes to look at his plate.

It was the reply he had expected. An inconclusive one. He hated the disappointment he felt as he looked up at Alexander.

"You may go." He said, his voice nonchalant, a stark contrast to his troubled emotions.

Seducing this man was probably going to take him a life time!

Could he be that patient...

Damon sighed softly as the door clicked shut and he ate the rest of his food, his appetite quite low.

Over the next two days, Damon paid him less attention than he had expected and for some reason, Alexander disliked it.

There was less teasing and their conversations were now brief. The late night invites into his room had also stopped and Alexander couldn't help but wonder if Damon's current behavior had something to do with his reply that night.

That had to be the reason why this prince was suddenly distant.

Whatever the reason...it messed with Alexander's peace of mind.

He frowned, getting increasingly disturbed by Damon's actions.

The man was unpredictable and Alexander could barely predict his next move.

Damon had decided to briefly pause his active attempts to seduce Alexander, inwardly hoping that that the man could say something or act but, just like he had expected. Nothing.

Damon was the one putting in all the hard work and as much as it was taxing, he was not about to give up.

Not yet...no never!

He thought as he glanced at his knight that was walking behind him.

This man was going to be his and he was going to do whatever it took to conquer him.

Damon's determination burned, today was the day the first princess was arriving and he couldn't wait to gauge Alexander's reaction.

They arrived at the castle gates to receive the princess and Alexander's expression was unreadable as he watched the beauty that stepped out of the carriage and sashayed towards Damon.

She was a fine female and he couldn't help but wonder whether Damon found her attractive.

His mouth turned sour when he watched him sensually kissing the back of her palm.

It was a small, lingering kiss that had the princess blush.

"Prince Damon." She greeted, the surprise in her voice evident at his bold actions.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Princess..." He trailed off, not remembering her name.

A first bad impression to make but he didn't really care.

She was not the one that he was trying to seduce after all.

"Carina. Princess Carina." She supplied helpfully and Damon smiled faintly as he dropped her hand.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Princess Carina." Damon repeated as he held out his arm and she hooked her hand through his.

Alexander watched the interaction with growing discomfort as he got an answer to one of his questions.

Damon did seem quite taken by this princess.

A feeling akin to jealous flared within his heart and he tried to fan it out but to no avail.

Alexander was jealous even though he kept his poker face on and walked a distance away from the pair infront of him.

Damon briefly glanced over his shoulder to see Alexander's facial expression but he was disappointed to find that same unfathomable look.

It seemed like he had to try harder.

"Your home is really beautiful, Prince Damon." The woman at his side attempted to make small talk but he was not in the mood to have a conversation.

He forced a smile to his lips. She was his guest and he had to try and pay her some attention.

"Thank you." He replied curtly as they made their way inside.

His family was waiting and his mother, like always was the first to move forward.

"You are such a beauty my dear." She complimented the princess with a sweet, genuine smile.

"Thank you, your Majesty." She replied while Damon glared at his sisters, silently telling them to remain quiet for once.

Daphne smirked and Davina smiled mischievously as she looked at Princess Carina.

"Carina, don't tell me you are already quite taken by this..." Davina said teasingly, humor coloring her voice as her eyes darted towards Damon, scanning him from head to toe.

He rolled his eyes.

"The looks are fetching but trust me, Damon is a naughty person..." Daphne smirked and Damon threw her a sharp look, warning her to keep her mouth shut.

Knowing Daphne, she was probably going to bring up his mysterious lover!

The girl was a total pain.
