26 26.Grim Grievances
Mark turned back to take a look at him.What he saw was beyond his imagination.Gu Ren was crying,there were actual tears in his eyes.Akio and Mark got up to leave.However,there was one last thing he had to do.He bent down and picked up Wang Xiu's photo.They both then left.
Gu Ren stared at the dead body.He was now stoned to the core.His legs kept on swindling sideways and he had lost a sense of balance.He saw the poster stuck on the mauve colored walls.He could feel her right next to him.Her rare,precious smile,her short hair,her pale skin,the beautiful facial features,he could only envision them.
Apart from that,he remembered her the first time she called him her brother,the kindness behind the cold face.All these things only made him cry more.
When a person is alive,we can do nothing but think bad about them and hate them more,but when they get separated from us,all the bad feelings evanish leaving behind only bittersweet memories.Life can be so ironic at times.
"You do not deserve to die!"He yelled as he got up.He picked up his bottle of cheap rice wine and started pouring it upon Wang Xiu.The cheap alcohol seeped through the cloth and started giving off an unbearable odor.
The servants came rushing in. "Young master,what have you done?"they asked him,who was half unconscious.
The servants immediately took the body outside the house. "It is so sad that there is no one to attend this poor girl's funeral.It seems as if she was not at all important to them."One of the servants pitied.
"Who said no one is attending her funeral?I am there.right?"Gu Ren grunted.He staggered to the dead body and started pouring alcohol upon it once again.
Zhang came in through the entrance.He saw Gu Ren argue with the servants.He went over and consoled Gu Ren. "I apologize."He said to all the servants,who seemed offended.He then took him upstairs,to his room.
Zhang noticed that Gu Ren's clothes were drenched with the cheap wine,thus giving off a bad odor.He began unbuttoning the shirt.Suddenly,he felt a sharp pull.Next moment he knew,Gu Ren was on his shoulders,bawling his eyes out.
"I loved her.I really loved her.I did not mean to kill her."He sobbed.
Zhang was a just individual.He knew his friend might not be an intentional murderer,he was still a criminal in the eyes of law.In fact,he had come here was this purpose itself.He wanted a confession out of Gu Ren.He wanted him to surrender.However,all this seemed impossible at this point.
Eventually,he gave in and hugged Gu Ren tightly,so as to trap all his sadness in himself.
Meanwhile,Mark and Akio reached their house.It seemed as if the living chunk of the house was thrown away.The house seemed dull and dead.Just one person missing from the house created such an impact that the house seemed to succumb in itself.
Mark and Akio sat on the bed.Akio's eyes seemed fixated upon the photo.
"Staring at her photo won't bring her back."Mark agonized.
However,Akio kept on staring at the frame,which seemed unusually loose.He went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife.He slid the knife through the photo,and the frame snapped right open.
Akio was taking at a look at the contents of the frame.Suddenly,a piece of paper fell down.He picked it up.Akio opened to see what was written in the paper.It was something scribbled in Mandarin.Luckily,Akio had learned the script and could read it.However,translating was still an impossible task.
They rushed off to Landlady,who was trustworthy.She translated the note in Japanese and handed it to Akio.
"What ever was written here,I tried my best to translate it.However,some words are not clear."She gave an earnest reply.
Akio began narrating the note.It said:
"I know I am going to die and I know who might be behind all this.However,please do not blame Gu Ren as the entire Ren family is responsible for this.The mastermind is Liu Ren,my foster father.He ordered some people to mix strong drugs in Gu Ren's vodka flask.They want to kill.....me....know...family."
