80 Traumatic Brain Injury

Mirly ran towards Reen and hugged her tightly. The impact startled them both and they fell on the floor, Reen's butt hitting the cement first but she didn't feel anything as the pain in her heart was heavier.

"Reen ….I'm so sorry. I just heard-"

Mirly's words were washed out by the tears that came streaming down her face.

"M-Mirly….m-my….whole f-family's…" Seeing her childhood friend so devastated Reen who was now really tired of crying could only look at her with pain and sadness

Reen kept repeating this like a broken record player. Mirly hugged Reen even tighter, Reen doing the same.

As though a puppet whose strings where cut, Reen stop talking and stared in shock ahead then fainted in Mirly's arm. Noticing this, Mirly started to panic.

"Reen! Reen! What's wrong?!" Mirly shouted in panic.

By then, the paramedics together with Wisteria brought Reen hurriedly to the hospital. Hue was left behind to get some things from their house and to bring a reluctant Mirly home.

"She's going to be fine." Hue consolingly said

"But she-" She argued back but seeing Hue shake his head

"Let's believe in her. She's a strong woman." Hue said as though trying to convince himself as well.

Mirly knew this was not the time to argue so she reluctantly nodded as Hue led her to his car to give her a lift home.

Reen was then sent to the hospital and did the necessary check-ups. After a few hours the results were out.

Reen was escorted to a VIP room shortly after all tests were done wherein she remained unresponsive throughout everything after she woken up. Seeing this, Wisteria could not help but be worried.

"So, h-how is she doctor?" After being escorted by the policemen and medical personnel, Wisteria who was the only one left besides Reen was filled with fright asked the doctor.

"She is diagnosed to have a Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI." The doctor signed as he thought of the poor child.

"W-what is that exactly…? Tell it to me straight please." Wisteria said filled with worry and grief for the child.

"To put it simply Traumatic Brain Injury has many causes, but the cause which relates to our patient here is the mechanism of injury called hypoxia or the lack of oxygen which resulted to the severe cognitive and memory deficits towards the patient's brain [1]." The doctor in charge started saying

"Brain injuries do not heal like other injuries, its healing process is based on a functional recovery which up until now remains uncertain. There was never a case as for as I've been a doctor wherein two brain injuries were similar or even had the same diagnostic as each brain injury diagnostic are always different. [2]" He continued to say as Wisteria's face started to get paler and paler as she continued listening to his explanation.
