78 Aftermath

The firefighters had finally extinguished the fire that engulfed Reen's house together with her family. The investigation squad found out that the fire was started deliberately base on the scorch marks at the burned down fire but no matter how they investigate they couldn't find any clues as to who the culprit/s is as all evidences were all engulf in the fire.

The only clue they could get was through Reen herself who was the sole witness to this tragedy. But knowing that the child just recently experienced such an event they decided to stop the investigation for the meantime.

"It was a good thing you were acted immediately Sir, if you were just a little bit late this girl would have definitely died." A policeman said

"But I… could only... save her..." Hue replied in a whisper

Hue clutched his fist tightly on his sides while Wisteria who was crying covered her face with her hands while Reen who was between them merely stared blankly at the far distance.

The policeman stared at them with a mixture of pity and sorrow for these people. The death of this family would be a nightmare and source of pain to such a poor child, dying with them would have been better for her. He cursed at his own thoughts feeling highly guilty for this passing thought.

"I'm sorry for your loss miss…" He said while taking down his hat in a gesture of respect.

Reen kept silent, the policeman then left them to give them some privacy. Wisteria was beside a trembling Reen, she now stared at her hands which were dirty from the fire, minor burn marks all over her body, black patches from the fire covered some parts of her body and her clothes was slightly burned. A cloth wrap around her. She was trembling uncontrollably.

"I was…I was…"

"Shhh….you don't have to say anything…you're alright, were alright….every things going to be alright. It's alright… you don't have to be scared anymore… you're not alone… It's going to be alright…"

Wisteria's tear filled face hugged Reen tightly as she consoled the pitiful girl, Hue with a pained face a bit held her shoulder to comfort her as well. Reen stared at her charcoaled house.

"M-Mom…Damon….So-sophie….T-Th-Their….T-Their..." She couldn't even finish her sentence she was afraid that once she did the nightmare would come true.

Despite her acting tough and being tough during the most critical part of her day when she was finally saved all the emotions of hurt, pain, grudge and blood thirst mixed making her highly young brain slow to process what she should start to feel first in this situation.

Reen's whole body then trembled and she started crying, wailing really hard. She was still holding the severed arms despite the continual pleading and urging of the policeman and ambulance to give it to them.

Knowing her unstable emotions, they along with Hue and Wisteria said that Hue and Wisteria will convince the child instead so they should let it be for now. As much as they were curious of the origin of the severed arms and it's connection to the fire they didn't have any choice but to relent.

Reen's cry of agony could be heard throughout the street. Sympathy filled the policemen doing crowd control, the firemen who were packing their stuffs and other people present in the vicinity.
