46 A Fool

"Uhm Diola...? I have something I've been meaning to ask you…"

Diola stopped drinking her shake and look at him who was looking down, staring at his hands that where holding his shake.

"I wanted to ask you…..if you would..."

Diola's heart skip a beat. Many things circled in her mind, she couldn't think straight.

"Yes?" she managed to say after a few seconds of delay.

"If….if you could help me get close to Candie." He said with a slight blush

Diola's heart stopped, her mind went blank.

"P-P-Pardon?"

"I have a crushed on her since the first day of school and I noticed you two are really close so I wanted to ask for your help. The things we did today I was planning to do this for her. I invited you to tell me whether she would like it or not, you being very close with her and all…"

He started talking about his feelings for Candie and ways to ask if he could court her, asking Diola her opinion about things he should do and should not do along the way.

Diola only half listening didn't know if she was going to be angry or sad. The only thing she was sure of is that she was a fool, a big fool. She stood up abruptly, mildly startling Austin.

She was an expert in hiding her true feelings for him but this was too big of a shocked even for an expert like her, she had to get as far away as she could before she burst into tears.

"Diola? What's wrong?"

"Oh! I forgot I promised them I'd buy them souvenirs."

"Oh, let me go with you I'm not finished talking about my plans anyway."

"No… no… it's, you know girl stuff and would be really boring, just go ahead home."

"Alright, if it's a girl thing let's continue our conversation tomorrow alright? You would help me right… to get closer to her?"

Diola just smiled, her heart breaking silently. Austin didn't know if it was a yes or no but decided to go home for now before she changes her mind and ask him to go shopping with her; he'd be bored to death.

"Bye, see you tomorrow"

"Bye!"

They went on their different ways; Diola bought her gifts and strolled aimlessly around the park her mind wondering elsewhere.

It was almost closing time but she didn't want to go home yet. She sat on a bench up a hill were the sunset was really visible; she sat on the bench feeling really exhausted.

Diola recalling what had happened a while ago and the 3 months that had pass.
