3 Scene 2
It is 6 o'clock in the morning when the alarm clock goes off She gets up to turn off the alarm and starts her day.
(speaks to herself)
JESSICA
How do I deal with this shit? This man is really getting married.
JAMES
Babe, who are you talking to?
JESSICA
I'm thinking out loud. I have to get ready for work. I have to settle this case between the two grandkids.
JAMES
Okay. I'll just wash my face while you get dress.
JESSICA
OKAY.
[10 minutes later Jessica is walking out the door to get in the car and drive to work. She gets to work a short while late. Once she gets in the office her assistant is waiting for her with her messages.]
JESSICA
Good morning Emily.
EMILY
Good morning Miss Williams.
JESSICA
What is on the agenda today.
EMILY
You have a meeting with Mrs Jones two grandsons.
JESSICA
Do you have the rest of the case file on that.
EMILY
Yes they are on the your desk.
JESSICA
okay I found it.
EMILY
I almost forgot Matthew called.
JESSICA
What did he want?
EMILY
He wanted to to remind you that you guys have dinner this Thursday at 8pm.
JESSICA
Can you please call him and tell him that I will not be able to make it to dinner this week because I'm very busy with cases.
EMILY
I'm going to call him right now.
JESSICA
okay.
[EMILY walks back to her desk and does what JESSICA told her to do.]
EMILY
Hello am I speaking with Matthew.
MATTHEW
Yes this is he.
EMILY
This is Jessica Williams assistant Emily. I was calling you to let you know that Miss Williams is unavailable to have dinner this week due to the fact that she is busy this weekend.
MATTHEW
Okay do you know when she is free to meet for dinner.
[EMILY take the phone from her face and puts her hand over the receiver and talks to JESSICA.]
EMILY
He wants to know when you are free to have dinner with him.
JESSICA
Tell him that you have to check my calendar
[EMILY puts the phone back to her ear]
EMILY
Sorry about that Miss Williams just walked through the door.
MATTHEW
can I please speak to her.
[EMILY looks at Jessica and Jessica shakes her head ]
EMILY
Sorry at the moment Miss Williams is getting ready for a meeting. I can check her calendar.
[EMILY looks at Jessica's calendar.]
EMILY
It looks like she has next week Friday available. How does that sound .
MATTHEW
Friday sounds fine.
EMILY
She will see you then. Thank you for your time. You have a good day bye.
MATTHEW
Bye
[EMILY looks at up JESSICA and she shakes her head.]
EMILY
Why are you avoiding Matthew's calls.
JESSICA
Here is the real truth. Ever since I found out that Matthew is getting married it just brought back old feelings. I feel like he is making a huge mistake.
EMILY
why do you say that.
JESSICA
Because Emily I'm in love with him.
EMILY
You think you can tell him how you really feel about him before it is too late.
JESSICA
I just can't do that two days before he is set to get married.
EMILY
well what are you going to do.
JESSICA
[sadly]
I just have to deal with the fact that he is marrying someone else.
EMILY
You sure that's what you want to do.
JESSICA
Yeah I do
[phone rings]
JESSICA
Hold on Emily. I'm getting a phone call from my sister.
[JESSICA steps outside.]
AMBER
Hey sis. When were you going to tell me.
JESSICA
Tell you what?
AMBER
That you were having another baby.
JESSICA
I'm confused. What's going on?
AMBER
I found a positive pregnancy test in my bathroom. And I know it's not mine because I'm 6 months. You the only one who was at my apartment the other night.
JESSICA
I'm not pregnant. What gave you the idea that I was Pregnant?
Amber
[sadly]
I just figured that it was yours.
JESSICA
Well it's not mine.
AMBER
Who else could it belong to.
JESSICA
I don't know, but, we will figure it out. You want me to come over and talk.
AMBER
Yes that way I don't lose my mind over this situation.
JESSICA
Okay sis I'm on my way.
[JESSICA walks back into the office and tells EMILY that she has to leave early.]
JESSICA
Emily I have to leave early. I will be at my sister's house. If any important call come through you can forward them to my work cell.
EMILY
Okay Jessica I hope everything is okay.
JESSICA
I hope so too. I will see you tomorrow.
[JESSICA gets her things and leaves the office. She gets in her car and drives to her sister house, where her pregnant sister Amber is waiting for her.]
