4 It's Not My Dream

Chaos circled all over the room, paper fly, screams bounce back and forth but still the man stand in his own principle. He knows what he likes and he know he had to fight his own father just to achieve it

"I told you, this is not what I want! If you would just listen"

"This is for your own good Marcelo!" his father screamed cutting him off

"For ONCE! Just listen to me!" he said emphasizing the word once.

Marcelo had always been a good son in the family. Even his relatives wants him because he know how to respect his parents. Unlike his brother who always does whatever he wants, Marcelo never did once disagree with his parents. For him, their happiness matters but he's been double thinking his choices in life these past few days. Does he really need to trade his own dream just for his parents to be happy?

"You told us that you want us to be happy, seeing you become a CPA is our happiness Marcelo" his father uttered

"And how about me? How about my happiness?" he said as he let the tears fall from his eyes

"Don't you ever cry just because of this! For petes sake, you're a man! Act like you're one!"

"So, what!? Now, I can't even cry because I'm a man? Dad! I'm HUMAN! I deserve to feel everything" he said emphasizing the word Human

"A man, doesn't show any weakness"

"Crying is not a sign of weakness!" he defended

"Whatever! This argument is over. You will go to school right after I finish the damage you've made"

"I told you this is not what I want! This is not my dream at all!"

"This is your DREAM Marcelo! Remember that becoming a CPA is your one and only DREAM!" his father hissed

"No! Don't ever forget Dad. This is the dream that you failed to achieve and so you're passing it to me. Becoming a CPA was never been my choice. You've already wasted the opportunities that I have, reprimanding me to enter some contest and such but always remember. I WILL become a professional dancer" he said emphasizing once again the word Will

His father had it all and punch him straight into his face. He couldn't believe that he heard the word no from his own good son's mouth. This is the first time that Marcelo ever disagrees with his wishes.

"Why are you acting like this huh!? Perhaps, you've been influenced by your friends"

"Don't you EVER include my friends in this conversation" Marcelo hissed earning another punch from his dad

"YOU'LL NEVER BECOME A PROFESSIONAL DANCER!" he screamed and walk out of the room.

Right after his father was out of sight, his mother entered the room and hug him tight. Marcelo couldn't even react, it's true that he was hit only in the face but his whole body become numb that he doesn't even know what was going on anymore.

"Oh, son. Your lips are swollen" her mother said bringing him back from reality

Marcelo looked at her mom and gave her a smile. His mother was always been so supportive of him and even with his dream to become a professional dancer. But knowing that his family follows tradition, it's always just his father who made decisions for everyone.

"I feel like I'm just a puppet" Marcelo mumbled

"No, no, son. You are not a puppet. You're a human" his mother said caressing his face

"Isn't he supposed to teach me how to fly? Why does it feel like his locking me up in a cage? I feel like a bird who forgot that it has wings" he said letting the other tears fall down his cheeks

"Your Dad, he's not, he's not just used to hear your rejection. This is his dream after all" his mother explained

"That's the point mom. Becoming a CPA is his dream and not mine." he said as tears overflow

"Dreams are supposed to make you happy, but why does it feel like a nightmare for me. He just threw away another opportunity of mine. I was scouted by a very well-known professional dancer and now what!? He thought I declined the offer because of my old man's disapproval! Did he even know how many underground dancers are dying to be scouted by him? Dad doesn't know a single thing but he keeps making decision for everyone as if he is us!" he added

Marcelo couldn't hold it anymore and walk out of the room, leaving her mom crying on the ground. It's just too much. He didn't realize it at first because he thought that it's for their own good. He never did understand why his brother always argue with his father. Not until now, that he experienced it himself. He's been living in a toxic environment where emotions are not valid and saying no is not even option. The patriarchal way suffocates him and made him nauseous, he feels disgusted just by his father's actions. Marcelo is always the person who tries to understand people. If they did something bad to him, there must have been a good valid reason why they were doing so. But this time, he can't think of a single valid reason on why he's father is acting like this. All he could think of is how selfish it is and how fool he was for letting his father do everything he wanted to do.

If only he could be like his brother, but no. Ever since from the start, Marcelo knew that he could never go against his Dad. In fact, he was surprised as well when he realized he had a massive argument with his own father and that he was able to stand up for himself. Maybe it's because of the rage that he feels inside. Seeing your dream crumble right in front of you because of the same person who decided to brought you in this world just hit differently than when a stranger does it. The guy knew very well that the adults should be respected. But how could he respect someone who doesn't even respect him in the first place.
