1 The Start of the End - Prologue

It was a typical day in summer, when my mother entered my room all of a sudden. She does that often, but this time, it was different.

I expected her to say something like: "Do the dishes," or "Don't you want to go outside at least once?" But that she would predict the end of the world to me just left me speechless for a moment. Of course I laughed at first, I mean, the apocalypse? You cannot be serious. I really had more important things to do than listen to my mom joking around.

Yet, I could tell by her expression that she wasn't being funny. So I let her drag me to the living room and listened to the alarming TV report.

"Attention! There are breaking news reaching us all around the globe, which contain the following message: It is not easy for us at all to tell you this horrifying piece of news; but scientific investigations and observations lead us to urgently assume that there is a giant underwater vulcano which will erupt in approximately seven days and with that, it will completely extinct the human race. Please remain calm and if possible, stay around your loved ones. Let us hope together, that this is just another false alarm.

This message is causing international concern, anxiety and panic. Nevertheless, school and work will continue with their normal routine. In the following days, you will get all the breaking news and informations..."

I didn't want to laugh at all anymore. From this moment on, my whole life was supposed to change, and I decided to do everything I held myself back from, to do everything in the time that still remains.
