6 Dark Soul

Note: In chapter 3 I forgot to mention that Gao means tall and Duan means short. Now on with the story :).

In the hallway Gu Long saw unusual flitters of shadow there and there. He heard mysterious whispers that were barely comprehensible. Gu Long took it as his imagination, but he didn't know that this decision would cost him dearly.

They arrived at the waiting room. Gu Long's parents were fidgeting nervously. They stood up and briskly walked to the Examiners.

"How did he do. Did he do well?" His father asked in a deep voice.

"He has an perfect aptitude for cultivating. He is going to probably not only get accepted by the Imperial Academy but by also by the Core. But we have to discuss with our leader first because he is more knowledgeable" Gao replied completely composed and no sign of his previous state was shown.

"By the Core?!" Gu Long's parents exclaimed.

Their shock was written clearly on their faces. Then they briefly looked at each other, a serious and concerned look on their faces.

"Do you know what constitution he has?" Gu Zhengzhi asked.

"It is an Unknown Dragon Type Constitution. Its tier is higher than Heavenly tier, but it is an Unknown Tier." Duan responded.

Gu Zhengzi's and Ling Ya's faces paled considerably.

"Is something wrong?" Gao noticed.

"No. Nothing. We are going now." Ling Ya said.

They took Gu Long by the hand and dragged him all the way back to their carriage they stepped in.

"Home" Said Gu Zhengzhi against the driver.

"Yes Head." The driver was actually from the Gu Family himself.

After about fifteen minutes Ling Ya broke the silence.

"Is it?"

"Yes"

"Then that means…"

"Yes and They might have already sent agents."

"And he's truly the..."

"Yes"

Silence resumed. The carriage traveled along the main road to Gu City, there was a forest to the left that was around two meters lower and ten meters away from the road. On the right there was a hill around five meters away from the road. The hill was around six meters high. Zhengzhi was thinking about what his parents said in their prior conversation. He couldn't make any sense of it. Abruptly, the carriage was hit by some force from the right. It flipped over and the right side caved in.. The three of them were thrown to the the side.

"Crap! What happened!" Shouted Gu Zhengzhi.

Ling Ya tried climbing out of the carriage through the opening the caved in wall left but she fell down.

"What is wrong Xiao Ya?" Gu zhengzhi rushed over.

"I think I think I broke my bone! I can't walk!" Ling Ya started taking short panicked breaths.

"Calm down, breath in deeply, and let it out slowly." Gu Zhengzhi said.

Once she calmed down he helped her up. He then slowly lifted her onto his back.

"Hold on tight!" Gu Zhengzhi said.

Ling Ya held on to his back tightly as Gu Zhengzhi started climbing up. He use the creases and friction of the benches to climb up. It was difficult but he managed. Once He was outside the carriage Gu Zhenzhi layed Ling Ya against the back of the flipped over carriage. He then climbed back into the carriage and helped Gu Long climb up. He led Gu Long to where his mother was.

"Stay here. I am going to check on Gu Huoxing[1]." Gu Zhengzhi ordered.

He went around to the front. Gu Zhengzhi froze. The driver was there on the ground. His head was pierced by a shard of some black substance. The horses were in similar situation. Gu Zhengzhi's eyes widened with fear. He rushed back to where he left Gu Long and Ling Ya.

"Quick! We have to go! They are near!" Gu Zhengzhi was panicking.

"Wait! What is near?" Ling Ya asked.

*AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH* A screech, a human like screech but yet almost unrecognisable. The scream was inhuman as if whatever caused that scream had been twisted beyond anything logically possible, corroded by darkness and turned into a monster.

"It's too late they have arrived" Gu Zhengzhi said.

The faces of Gu Long's parents turned into an unhealthy shade of white.

"A Dark Soul[2]." Gu Zhengzi whispered. "A being twisted by the Darkness, turned into a monster that serves him and follows his will."

"The barrier is starting to fall." Ling Ya said.

Suddenly on behind the hill a being appeared. Its body was shrouded by a dense black mist, not allowing anyone to see what was underneath. Despite that, you could see the beings glowing red eyes clearly. It was three meters tall and seemed to have a muscular body. Gu Long was inspecting it when it suddenly charged towards them.

"RUN" Gu Zhengzhi shouted.

Gu Long picked himself up and started running. Gu Zhengzhi grabbed Ling Ya's hands and ran alongside Gu Long. After running one meter to the forest Ling Ya abruptly fell, crying out in pain. Gu Zhenzhi and Gu Long stopped an helped her up.

"I can't walk any more!" Ling Ya cried, tears streaming down her beautiful face. "Go on without me!"

"No! I will stay with you." Gu Zhengzhi refused.

"I will stay as well." Gu Long agreed.

"Gu Long, you are not allowed to stay. You have to run. Don't stop until you reach Gu City. Understood?" Gu Zhengzhi ordered.

"I… I can't!" Gu Long started crying.

"Come here my child." Ling Ya said.

Gu Long knelt in front of his mother. Ling Ya grabbed Gu Long's face with both her hands and kissed his forehead.

"Do as your father says! We will be fine." Ling Ya said.

Gu Long stood up his heart torn and suddenly felt strong and thick arms wrap around his small body.

"Son, don't worry! I'll beat this ugly bastard over there and we will see each other soon!" Gu Zhengzhi comforted him. "One more thing, remember this and don't ever forget it! You are the true god."

*Sob**Sob*

Gu Zhengzhi unwrapped his arms.

"Now go!" He shouted.

He watched as Gu Long turned and ran to the forest Right at the border Gu Long turned around one last time.

"Mama, Papa. I Love you!"

"We love you!" His parents shouted back. They were embracing each other smiling happily at Gu Long.

This scene and those words would be forever carved into Gu Long's heart.

He ran into the forest as he wiped away the tears blurring his eyes.

"He has grown up hasn't he?" Ling Ya asked looking at Gu Long's fading back with a lot of love.

"Yes he has." Gu Zhengzi sighed. "I love you Ling Ya"

"I love you as well" Ling Ya replied.

Gu Zhengzi lowered his head and kissed Ling Ya's lips. They both closed their eyes briefly and then parted.

"Don't worry! We will see each other soon!" Ling Ya reassured.

"Shall we then?" Gu long asked.

"Yes" Ling Ya answered.

Out of Gu Zhengzhi's back two golden and scaly wings burst out, ripping his robes in the process. The same happened to Ling Ya and they both stood facing the terrible monster as it approached them.

[2]Dark Soul- I did not get my inspiration from the game if that is what you think. The noise they make is supposed to be kind like the noise Ringwraiths from Lord of the Rings make. It is kind of connected to them to show that evil is always the same no matter where it is or what form it takes.
