49 Comet

Chapter 49: Comet

As soon as he understood the situation, William turned around intending to warn the squad. However, he still hadn't taken a step when a voice called out to him.

"So here you were, William." Crestet Cesimir approached. "I woke up and saw that you were gone, I was worried thinking that you had disappeared like the Nighthawks."

"Sir, just now I was going to look for you." He hastened to point out the sunflowers.

Without needing to explain anything else, Cesimir glanced at the field of flowers and after two seconds his eyes widened.

"Good job, go back to the hotel and bring the others." He ordered as his famous briefcase appeared in his hand.

William had heard of Cesimir's power, so he did not hesitate to follow the order.

"Hyyiiiih."

There was a strange scream that stopped him. It had been heartbreaking and he felt his soul tremble slightly. The surroundings darkened in a calm inconsistent with the situation; then, there was a pale white glow.

"I correct my order, I need you to help me with this." The Goddess's Sword remained calm like the deacon that he was. The wall of darkness that surrounded them prevented William from seeing the enemy, but he could feel it.

Foosh.

He moved to avoid the incoming attack. A rusty sword struck the place where he had been a moment before, the strangest thing was that the weapon was as big as William himself.

Then, a bloody, human-like hand reached out from the wall of darkness and slowly grasped the handle.

The hand was followed by a monstrous creature that would have been a shock to any common child or adult. He stood on two legs, though terribly stooped, his hair was covered with bloody wool, and his head resembled that of a horse.

However, the creature was not fighting two fledglings. Crestet moved his weapon slightly and a pale glow surrounded it. The monster seemed to almost fall asleep and Crestet took advantage of the situation to try to get closer and cut it down.

"Kghah!"

He let out a roar that sounded like someone opening an old door and used his sword to block the deacon's attack.

Unfortunately, the Sleepless pathway didn't grant much physical enhancement, and the monster was much stronger than an ordinary human.

Even so, the combat was already over.

William fell from the sky with a sword that could rival the monster's in size and swung it around.

Slash.

Like a hot knife through butter, the creature was split in two. William landed, whereupon he created a small tremor.

The huge sword shrank back to the size of a small dagger.

"Good job, but don't let your guard down, it's not over yet." Cesimir warned.

Sure enough, a second later several creatures similar to the previous one began to grow from the sunflowers. In all, there were seven, not counting the one that had just been killed.

"Understood." He transformed the Sealed Artifact again, this time to the size of a straight sword.

The beasts shouted in defiance, and both Red Gloves jumped toward them.

Crestet now knew the ability to use the sword that these monsters possessed, so he had no problem avoiding the blows of one and cutting the neck of one of them with an elegant movement. Instead, William was much more aggressive.

A beast was thrown back, reeling as it collided with William's much smaller sword.

Somehow, seeing someone, or something, use a sword so poorly, made his insides churn, which surprised him since he hadn't expected something like that to anger him.

Two other beasts attacked him, one from each side. He ignored one of them and dove for the other.

With a swift swing, the rusty sword snapped in two, sending the horse's head flying into the air. He used another move just in time to block the other's sword. An instant later he finished with it.

'It's strange...' he thought carefully. 'Something is wrong here, they are too weak.'

Both he and the captain had sensed a powerful presence, and yet it didn't seem like these monsters were a real threat. William refused to believe that his instincts were wrong, so there must still be something missing that they hadn't discovered.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw how Cesimir finished off the last of the monsters.

William looked at him, and the captain nodded, confirming that he too found the situation strange.

"Darling, be careful, they're not dead yet." Debris warned him just in time, as one of the headless monsters near him had gotten up and tried to slash at him.

He blocked it but was pushed back a bit.

"I see, they are undead." He muttered under his breath. "Then..."

The undead didn't follow the same logic as the living, they wouldn't die even if their hearts were removed. To kill them, it was necessary to perform an exorcism, but William wasn't too good at them.

So, for such a possible situation, he had developed a technique, which was actually very simple.

Golden smoke began to ooze from his body. This was the ability that he had acquired upon becoming a Templar: Strength Aura.

He crouched down as the headless monster began to run towards him.

Bang.

There was an explosion of red, and the monster completely disappeared.

'If the undead can't die, I just have to keep them from moving.' He thought.

To do this, he created the technique that he had just used. Thanks to the Strength Aura, his physical capabilities were greatly increased, which included his speed. To this, William added the ability of Great Man's Sword to increase his weight at the same time as his size, which allowed him to accumulate great momentum. To understand this better, one could imagine the force a racing car would have going at full speed concentrated in a small indestructible iron bar.

In fact, this technique allowed William to explode the monster without it being able to react in the slightest.

He called the technique 'Comet', and it was one of his two current trump cards.
