1 Awakening

At first there was a bitter darkness, but then light and sight. It looked like a hospital room, but at a better view, it wasn't a hospital room at all. Just a strangely spiritual looking room. The baby tried to make a sound, but nothing came out. However he could still make thoughts. "Huh? What in the world is going on? Am I a..baby? Am I reborn for real?" he thought. He then saw a puppy, it looked like an Akita, and it looked like it was smiling. "Ma'am, is the baby healthy?" it said. The baby was stunned, dog's aren't supposed to talk. But here it was, talking like it was normal. He looked at his new mother, and she was a fairly moderate aged woman with dreadlocks. "My beautiful baby boy. I think I'll name you after a famous magical being. My little Merlin Pyrite. Yes that suits you nicely. I know it may seem strange at first, but I promise to raise you happy and healthy." she said as she put Merlin in a crib in his own room. The dog watched him as the mother went outside, so the baby looked around the room. "Okay, so let me recap what happened. I died at an old age, and then I saw some sort of man in a bunny costume or something and he said he was happy to see me again. And then I went to a screen thing and saw the Cosmic Fish. Huh, I think that was the Between World Waiting Room. Sweet. Well now I get to learn to live in a new world." Merlin thought to himself, starting to fall asleep. His mom came back in with his dad, and they saw that Merlin was asleep, so they let him sleep and went to go talk to teachers at the local school. "Hi mister Charles, we would like to enroll our son into the school. He's an Aquarius, and a Reincarnate. So we hope he's welcome." the dad said before getting the necessary paperwork.

The next day, Merlin woke up, and saw that he aged quickly to a 5 year old and his skin had gotten darker like brown sugar while his hair seemed to shimmer like a prism. "Oh boy...ah man everyone can see me naked. I should get underwear, and maybe shorts." he said as he climbed out of his bed and got clothes on, and looked for his parents so he could eat. However he found a book about Zodiacs and Magick. He looked and saw his Zodiac, Aquarius. She was the Zodiac of Air, Water, Nature, and Magick. He also found a beginner level spell that involved manipulating water, so he got a bucket and started to chant. "Noble mother of water and the star of the water bearer, manifest the water before me and reveal the frosted hydration. Bubble Splash." he chanted as he created a bubble that popped and water splashed into the bucket. He was happy that it worked, so he tried again, but only said "Bubble Splash", which worked the same way, so he practiced multiple times till he got hungry, so he dumped the bucket in the sink and sat down with his parents for pancakes. The dog sat to eat pancakes from his food dish, and they told Merlin about going to school, and he looked surprised about that. He didn't expect there to be school in this world too, but then again how else was he supposed to learn about his new home. Plus it's not as if it was a bad thing, could be a fun experience and make new friends too. After he finished eating, and said goodbye to his dog, he went with his parents to school, which looked like a miniature castle from the front, with golems standing around it like they were about to spring up and attack at the slightest sign of danger. A woman dressed like a librarian walked up and greeted Merlin with a smile, seeming warm and friendly. However she wasn't able to speak, and used a notepad to communicate. "U-um...nice to meet you ma'am, I'm Merlin Pyrite." he said nervously. The woman wrote down: "Hello young Merlin. You look just like the other Merlin Children, but just a little shorter. I hope you enjoy school, come in. My name is Madam Fey". Merlin walked in, wondering what a Merlin Child was, however his thought was interrupted by a surprise armadillo rolling up to his leg, then un-rolled itself and ran off. Merlin looked around, and saw a girl dressed in all black, and had piercing red eyes staring at him menacingly before smiling and shaking his hand. "Hi there, I'm Morgan Quartz. Sorry about my pet, I dragged him here but the teachers made me send him home. Come on I'll show you around, trust me the new guys always get picked off first. And while we're at it, we can get you a familiar and maybe find out who you'll be dating." she said, seemingly without stopping to take a breath. He didn't have the time to ask about what exactly she was talking about with familiars or dating at 5 years old. His parents were already gone when he looked back, and then he saw what looked like an eye on the wall staring right at him specifically. He just ignored it and walked to his classroom with Morgan, and it looked bigger on the inside and had floating books, small round tables with cloths over them, and numerous other things that made the room more colorful. Merlin looked around at all of it and was amazed how it looked, remembering how before he reincarnated, his kid classroom was kinda boring compared to this. The bell rang, and multiple kids of different species came into the room.

Merlin sat next to Morgan, and saw someone else with demon horns and a nasty looking smile along with long dyed hair. He didn't seem friendly at all and even held a fireball in his hand like he was going to throw it at something or someone. "Well well, look at the newbie looking like a chicken. I wonder how you taste fried to a crisp." he said with the same wicked snarl on his face, but Morgan walked up and punched him in the gut without any warning. "You better back off Mebbas, hurt him and I'll actually end you right here." she said in a threatening tone, but Mebbas didn't seem to care at all and was still smiling. "Flattery won't save you babe. Now give daddy some sugar hm?" he said mockingly, which made Morgan angry and caused her nails to sharpen like claws. Madam Fey walked into the room, and split them both up before they actually started fighting. Morgan sat down, glaring at Mebbas like a lioness ready to attack it's target. Merlin didn't say anything, instead just waiting for the lesson to begin. However Mebbas had already targeted him, and used a shadow spell to manipulate Merlin's shadow as he saw fit, and caused him to fall out of his chair, and onto what seemed like paint in the shape of an X. Luckily he didn't fall on his face, but the paint got on his hands and was very runny, so he ran to the bathroom and went to the sink. Merlin tried to wash it off, but it wasn't coming off, so he flicked it and it formed an X on the mirror. Merlin then thought to make an X on his chest, and thought that it felt right for some reason. He went back to class, and a bucket of water was about to fall on his head, however he suddenly stopped it before it hit his head, and walked to the side to get the bucket and catch the water. "Um...did I do that just now? I sorta just...thought it." he asked. Everyone giggled that he managed to use telekinesis for a silly prank. Madam Fey evaporated the water in the bucket, and pointed to the rule that stated "No magick unless given permission", that way Merlin didn't accidentally hurt anyone or himself. He nodded yes and sat back down with Morgan, and learned from her. Then came the time to summon a familiar, and when it was his turn, it was a small green Slime monster with small eyes and a mouth shaped like a cat. Everyone but Mebbas and his friends still liked it, calling it cute and jiggly. Merlin placed it on his head, and it was happy to be there, so he left it there for the rest of the day.

At the end of the school day, Merlin said bye to Morgan, and ran to his parents and told them about what he did all day, and showed his new Slime familiar that he named Gooba. His father laughed at how the slime made a tiny hand to wave hi, but his mother hugged him for a great first day at school, and offered for Merlin to help make stuffed peppers with salad and cornbread.
