The Transfer Student Part 2

[Monday, Lesson 5 - L4L]

Back in good old Learning 4 Life and it was my turn for the topic. Or at least it would be if some love-struck idiot didn't abandon us and leave our table to talk to the new girl. I think we shall have to call him Judas from now on.

"So I guess it's just us today, Sean."

"It's kinda upsetting to see him move on, you know they say you lose a few friendships when you get in a relationship."

The words that just came out of Sean's mouth shocked me, never in the 5 years I've known him have I ever heard him say something that smart. Maybe he is really hiding something from us. He comes up with some real nuggets of wisdom sometimes.

"I think we should hold off on the usual discussion for today. The fourth rule states that all members must be present."

As upsetting as it was, we had to hold off. Ethan had moved to Kaylee's table and was talking up a storm.

I guess he still doesn't know.

"What's the matter, you two idiots seem down." Ruby walked over to us and sat down in Ethan's chair. It filled the empty voids within our hearts and revived us from this curse caused by a guy in love.

"I don't know what to do about Ethan," I replied.

"It's definitely an issue if he keeps going on like this. But, you guys are really close and you've all been through a lot together, I'm sure you'll all comfort him when the time comes. If I was you I'd let things work on their own. No point trying to force it."

Ruby was right, we should leave him alone. We'll just have to be there supporting him from the shadows. Even though we know there won't be much point in supporting.

"You know, I never knew you could say something so smart. Maybe you do have a heart." I said.

"What are you saying? I can't hear you 'cause your head is so far up your own arse."

"Sorry? What were you saying? Sean, do you hear the sound of a blood-haired idiot?"

"HAHA, you two are just like a married couple. Why aren't you two dating already?" Sean added.

I take back what I said about Sean being smart, he's an idiot. Looks like they are both Judas. What is the plural of Judas? Judai?

"HA! AS IF I WOULD EVER MARRY THIS DICK." Ruby proclaimed.

"I wouldn't want to marry Ruby, I'd rather marry you Sean than marry her."

"Aw thanks, man."

"Whatever, I'll leave you now. idiot." Ruby practically spat at me as she spoke.

"Wait, why did you come over here in the first place? Was it to see Owen?"

That's right, you tell her Sean! I knew you were smart, I've been rooting for you all along. You are no betrayer in my eyes!

"Yeah Right! I just wanted to talk about Ethan that's all."

[Monday, After School]

Lesson 6 ended with nothing interesting happening. Sean ran off to football practice and Kaylee had to stay behind for a bit to talk to the teacher about everything she missed in lessons up till now. Ethan was going to wait for her but she didn't want him to.

Which is why we are now waiting for her by the school gate where she will have to walk past us to leave.

"Dude, why are we waiting? She said she didn't want you to wait. It's too cold to be standing outside like this. I'm going to freeze to death before I see you two get together."

"Of course she said that, she is very kind and considerate." Ethan's face lit up with a smile whenever he talked about her. I guess he really does care for her. Even in this shivering code, he wasn't shaking one bit, yet my whole body was vibrating in hopes to keep warm.

"You don't have to wait with me you know, you can go home yourself."

He probably wanted it to just be the two of them, but, I didn't want to leave him alone.

"Nah, it's fine I'll wait with you. You'll be lonely by yourself."

We were standing outside for a few minutes, people were still passing by us leaving to go home, but the crowd was dispersing. By the time Kaylee had left the building, it was practically empty by the gate, with the exception of the few stragglers that had detention and were just leaving.

As she started to get closer to the gate Ethan slowly walked up to her whilst I stood back and watched. Kaylee carefully walked towards the gate, not even acknowledging we were in front of her. Her eyes were down on the ground the whole time.

"Kaylee!" Suddenly a voice called out from beyond the gate.

Ethan quickly turned around to look for the voice calling her. A teenager that stood out from the rest, with short dark green hair, wore a smile that looked as if it belonged to the happiest man in the world.

"SIMON!" Kaylee cried out as she ran past us; hitting us with a sharp cold burst of wind as she landed in the stranger's arms. Even I knew just how warm that hug was.

He was wearing casual clothes that suited him really well, he seemed more mature compared to us as he held her in his arms. He didn't look like he belonged in our year. I had to guess he was the year above, or maybe a different school.

They both stood there hugging for what felt like ages. All Ethan could do was watch, he wanted to look away but couldn't. He knew very well what just happened and was struggling to accept it.

"I'm sorry Ethan. I heard from Ruby about him. I didn't know if I should have told you or not."

Ethan didn't reply.

We both stood there silently as we watched them walk off hand in hand smiling happily at each other. At some point, I stopped feeling the cold.

"Hey, Owen?" Ethan's voice was in pain, trapped inside himself wanting to cry. But he knew he couldn't do that here. He didn't want people to look at him. He didn't want Kaylee to see.

"Yeah?"

"Do… Do you wanna go get something to eat?"

I couldn't see Ethan's face, he turned away from me. but I didn't need to see it.. I didn't want to see what kind of face he was making.

"Sure thing buddy. Come on, I'll buy you something."

This chapter sets a theme that I wanted to deal with in Continuous School. Although they do seem to be having a fun school experience life isn't always fair. Thank you for reading and with that concludes Volume 1 concludes (volumes don't mean anything I just wanna be cool)
