12 The Transfer Student Part 1

[Monday, Registration]

It's a weird time in the year for someone to transfer in, you don't see that many people who want to transfer schools in Year 11 because of how close it is to the final exams. Either way, this girl decided to transfer in for some reason. I guess the writer just wanted to introduce a new character in such a cliché way.

"Hi everyone, My name is Kaylee and I hope we all get along for the remainder of the year!"

A brunette who called herself Kaylee stood before the class, she had a ponytail resting on her shoulder and a pure smile that seemed as if it hadn't experienced any heartbreak or lies. In a kill-or-be-killed world that was about to change.

There didn't seem to be anything special about her. She was seated next to Ruby and her little group. A lot of the boys in the class were trying to talk to her and ask her questions like her phone number, hobbies and even her dating life. We won't usually take interest in this type of thing, however, there was one of us that was drooling.

"She's pretty," Ethan said whilst creepily gazing at her, unaware that he hadn't looked away for the last 10 minutes.

"Really? I thought she said her name was Kaylee."

Good to see Sean bringing out the dad jokes despite being so young. Maybe he is hiding something from us?

"So, what are you going to do? You going to talk to her at lunch or something?"

"Ah… Um… I guess. I'm not really… Su-Sure…" Ethan was extremely nervous, based on his previous encounters with females it makes sense for him to be worried. The last time he spoke to one, his face turned bright red and started to swell. It was as if he was allergic to confessions.

"I'm sure you'll be fine, we've got tons of lessons today where we are all together so you can try talking to her then."

With Ethan you have to take things slow, if he rushes things then everything always ends up failing, I think. I'm not sure how good he is with love. I haven't fallen for him so I can't judge. Based on what he has told me I can guess he isn't very good.

"Ok. I'm going to try and talk to her now." Ethan was pumped up. Knowing that lessons would soon start and he would miss his chance, he pushed aside his anxiety and charged forward. Luckily for him, it seemed the boys were no longer interested.

He leapt up from his chair with his chest forward but quickly stopped when he released there was more than one girl over there.

"Owen, can you do me a favour? Can you distract Ruby whilst I talk to Kaylee?"

"Huh? You want me to go over there and move Ruby out the way just for you to satisfy your own sex drive?"

"Come on. Please, dude. Now that all the other boys have left her alone she is just talking to Ruby. I know, I'll buy you a drink at lunch."

What a tempting offer. But talking to Ruby? Was it worth it?

"Fine. Just this once. Next time you'll have to go up there yourself."

Whilst I was removing Ruby from the situation Ethan's nerves came back. He was standing far away staring at us with wide puppy dog eyes, bracing himself to approach. His eyes were asking for advice, but I didn't bother to say anything because he wouldn't hear me from over there.

After a big breath in, he finally managed to engage.

"Hey, Kaylee right? I'm Ethan I sit over there."

"Ethan? I've heard about you from the other boys. Top of the class huh, you must be popular."

"Ah well, you know." Ethan blushed and couldn't contain his excitement from being complimented. His body wiggled around like the happy worm he was.

"So what's up? You nervous?"

"Oh. me? Nervous? No never. I just wanted to come over here to introduce myself and see if you were settling in ok, I saw you were surrounded at first and was worried that maybe you were a bit overwhelmed?"

"Aw how sweet, you don't need to worry about me. I've got nerves of steel!" Kaylee triumphantly responded lifting her arms and flexing her muscles that weren't there. A kid-like smile erupted from her face as Ethan wanted to die from a cuteness overload.

"Haha, yeah," Ethan said awkwardly.

From the other end of the room, it looked like things were going well. I can't hear that well as to what is going on but I'm sure Ethan is going ok, although it did look awkward at one point.

"So what did you want to talk about?"

Oh, I forgot about Ruby.

"You don't have to worry, I didn't want to talk about anything, Ethan just made me talk to you."

"What? Why?"

"Look at Kaylee. Ethan apparently has a thing for her and wanted to introduce himself, but you were in the way."

"What a nice way to word it. But, it's a shame..."

The expression in Ruby's voice dropped. Her smile fell as she watched those two talk from across the room.

"What why?"

"Wait? You guys don't know?"
