22 Halloween

[Sunday, Halloween]

Today was what a lot of people consider to be the scariest day of the year. For us, we don't do anything special. All we do is meet up at Ethan's house and play games and devour a giant bowl of sweets that his parents gave us because they brought too much for Halloween.

That's all there is, let's just end this chapter here, it's kinda boring if you ask me.

Or so we thought.

"Hwey. -Chomp chomp- Owen. -Chomp- Wan a wo? -Chomp Chomp-"

"Stop chewing and talking it's gross," I replied to Sean who spat everywhere.

"It's a wery chewy weet."

"I don't care if it's chewy or rock-hard just don't talk, it's not that hard."

"Hmph, Fine."

The three of us sat in silence doing what we normally did, Ethan was playing video games, Sean was reading comics on the bed whilst I was playing on my phone on the floor. We sat in silence most of the time and would often get to a point where we would discuss typical boy talk. You know, girls and such. Shame we are all loners who struggle to talk to girls.

"Shall we just move on to the 'sacred' talk?" asked Sean having finished his sweets.

"Sure why not, let's start with the obvious one." Ethan and Sean both turned to me. Ethan even paused his game to get deeper involved.

Here it comes.

"Owen? Dodgeball? Nice one getting hit on purpose so you could have a lap pillow. I salute you, good sir." Ethan raised his hand to his head.

I didn't mean to get hit.

"It's not like that. She doesn't like me just as much as I don't like her."

"Ehhhhhhh. Sure thing, buddy" said both Sean and Ethan in unison.

"Oh yeah?" I said, needing a way to get the conversation off of me. "You wanna talk, what about Drama? Huh? HUH? DRAMA??? REMEMBER THAT CRINGE?" At this point, I just want the attention to be off of me.

"What happened in Drama?" Sean asked.

"GASP!" That was me just saying the word. "You mean you didn't even tell him?" I said overly exaggerating the whole situation.

"It's not important."

"Oh, it is. Basically, he has to do a play with her."

-THUD THUD-

"What was that noise? It sounded like something hit a wall?" I asked.

"Must have been some kid outside," Ethan replied. "Probably tripped."

"Good for you dude. baby steps. It's just baby steps."

Hearing Sean say something like that didn't feel right.

-THUD-

The same noise happened again. It was clear to me that it was coming from the other side of Ethan's door, leading to the hallway.

"Those kids are really noisy huh?" Ethan didn't believe it was coming from his house.

"Whatever, who cares about her anyway. To make matters worse, I have to work with her now."

"PFFT, WHAT!" I said spitting out my drinking in shock, drenching Ethan's floor as he made me clean it up. "That must suck!"

-THUD THUD THUD-

"Are you sure those are kids, sounded kinda close?" I said.

"Maybe this house is haunted?" Sean said trying to spook us.

"Nah, definitely the kids. Anyway as I was saying about Kaylee, she is with Simon, there is nothing I can do about that."

"Hmmm. I've never liked that Simon guy." I said "I've only met him once and he did seem too good-looking. Good-looking people always have some sort of secret or a bad personality trait."

"Now that I think about it. He did seem kinda impatient, but I guess he was waiting in the car so it does seem sort of valid that he would want to leave quickly. Don't want to cause traffic, you know?"

Ethan was trying to do everything he could to defend his rival in love. What a nice guy.

"But it doesn't matter anyway, me and Kay-"

-THUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUD-

The sound was getting louder and louder, the walls felt as if they would fall at any moment with the videogame posters on his wall flapping about, threatening to fall off. The sound was echoing around us unable to be located.

"This is kinda scary..." Sean was trying to make us more scared even though it wasn't working and we weren't worried at all.

"Wait a minute." Ethan said, "I think I know who our ghost is."

Ethan left the room and the banging stopped. As he walked out the sound of something scuttling down the stairs could be heard, as if a frightened animal was fleeing for its life. Eventually, the bug got to the bottom of the stairs we could hear Ethan shout

"Bella! What are you doing?"

Turns out our friendly ghost was just Ethan's sister trying to listen in. I guess her escape plan wasn't very good.
