17 Failed Observation

[Thursday, After School]

Part of the school experience is falling in love. Love is kinda cliché but also really interesting. When someone gets asked to meet them after school in private you know that something is happening. That is exactly what's happening here.

Sean was asked to meet after school by some petite girl. Obviously, as his trusted friends, we must look after him and make sure it isn't a trap; this is how we show we care for him. This brings us to the current moment in time.

"Why are we doing this again." Ethan wondered.

"Because it's juicy love gossip, just because you've given up doesn't mean Sean should die alone."

"Whatever…"

"Shush. I'm trying to listen."

We hid behind a small bush next to where the confession was taking place, the rustling of the bush was enough to hide our voices; the wind was on our side. We were just far enough away to not be noticed but we also couldn't hear anything that well.

"What are they saying?" Ethan asked.

"I'm not sure… I think she just asked Sean if he was the west of some Goodball team, whatever that is."

"Okay…. What else?" Ethan didn't seem convinced by my words. But I couldn't make out what they were saying, and no other word could possibly be replaced with Goodball.

"I don't know… she seems to be speaking a lot, I'll try and read her lips." My time to shine.

"Last week, when we went away with some friends, I know you probably recognise me, when I watched you I was stunned. I couldn't take my ears off you… when you play GooseBall… You have a massive smile on your fade… regardless of winning or cruising. When the players of your theme go are constipated you go up to them and abort them…"

"Abort them? Is he kicking people out of something? Are you sure you're reading this right?"

"Yes Yes Yes. let me continue. I'm a master lip reader, I've been doing it for years."

"Even when you win and the other team has been deployed inside themselves you go over and walk to them afterwards, always climbing. No matter where I cooked, I was always cooking at you. Always cooking in your direction. So… with that beat said… WOULD YOU COME AND FIGHT ME."

I personally think I nailed that.

"So is she a chef? Or does she want to fight him?" Ethan asked.

"she might be a mountain climber? Very educated for her age. She is small. Does height affect your ability to climb?

There is no doubt that my lip reading was 100% accurate. So, with the information we had, we have to figure out what was happening.

"Anyway, this weekend I've got my first shift at my new job, I'm kinda nervous" Ethan started to speak to me about something else, but my head was too busy poking through the leaves just so I could see what was happening.

"Yeah Yeah, Cool Cool. Ethan shut it, Sean is speaking."

-Sniff-

-Sniff-

"So…. What is he saying?" Ethan asked, but my tears were too loud. That's all I could hear.

"Huh? -sniff- Ah sorry."

"WHY ARE YOU CRYING?" Ethan yelled at me.

"SEAN'S WORDS WERE JUST SO BEAUTIFUL -sniff-, HE CALLED ME SMART -sniff-"

"Really?" Ethan said, suddenly interested. "What did he say about me?"

"Something about you being dumb and annoying. I stopped caring once he spoke about me."

I always thought Sean was some idiot who was bad at dealing with these types of things, just like me. Turns out, he surprisingly knows how to handle things. Something in my heart was happy to know that's how he felt about us. I almost feel bad for trying to spy on him.

"You idiot, move I'll look." Ethan barged me out of the way with a rugby tackle. I wasn't going to let him get away with that.

"NO. I'm the lookout. This is my thing. Don't ruin my thing. You always ruin my thing!"

"Stop acting like a spoiled child and move it!" Ethan shoved me again as I jumped ontop of him.

"Hey stop pushing!"

"I'm not pushing you are!" The two of us were pushing and shoving each other. It was a fight over the tiny little spot with the best vision.

"Stop, I'm gonna…"

-FA-THUD-

"Hehe… Hey Sean… What you doing?" And then we fell. Ethan had pushed us over. He laid on top of me and I was only able to look up at the two of them, both embarrassed about what they were seeing.

"Ethan, don't be an idiot, I think he knows… Also, Get off me!"
