19 First harvests

First and foremost, I wanted to apologize to the readers of this hisAtory. I have been absent for more than a month for various reasons that prevented me from giving my novel enough time. From now on I will return to it but until early or mid-February the frequency of chapters will not be more regular, until those dates I will be publishing from time to time some chapter. Having said that, I hope you like the new capitulo, despite being short. A balance to all.

During the following days we continue with the usual tasks. In the case of Mors, this was dedicated to using blast furnaces, for this moment we built 3 blast furnaces. Two would be devoted to producing iron while the last would produce steel.

The first part, the manufacture of iron was relatively easy, Mors had no problems in producing high quality iron. But on the other hand, the complicated thing was transforming iron into steel. The first obstacle was the transport of the wagons made of refractory bricks to the blast furnace where the steel would be made and later to raise it with the cranes. Unlike the iron that was in the solid state when it is poured into the blast furnace, once it exits it is in liquid state at a high temperature, the wagons could isolate and at the same time maintain the temperature inside it. But the difficult thing was to pour the molten iron into the blast furnace without accidentally spilling part of it outside the entrance of the blast furnace and causing an accident.

Once we took him practice it was easier this process. The next obstacle was that in the first batch of steel it broke easily, Mors did not know the reason for this, the time he could get his hands on a steel object this was very hard and resistant. I did know the reason for this, the steel was cracked because it still contained a greater than preferable amount of carbon.

I told him to reuse the metal and that it would vary both the amount of air we injected into the blast furnace, as well as the amount of coal and the time of manufacture. Not a week passed until Mors finally knew the conditions necessary to produce high quality steel.

We decided that at the moment we would only manufacture essential items for the tribe and meanwhile the rest of the steel manufactured would be accumulated in the form of ingots to subsequently remelter them and give them the shape we wanted.

Time passed and we were already at the beginning of December, it was time for the first harvests.

Of the four growing areas, both the wheat and the pumpkins still had to be cared for, it was not yet time for harvesting, but instead the peas like potatoes could be harvested.

These having a shorter growth time could be harvested several times during the year. During a whole week we dedicated ourselves to the harvest, the amount of food produced in this harvest was great, which surprised the tribe a lot. This was due to their experience with the crops they obtained in their old home. I am calm, I knew that food production would not be a problem anymore.

But the only thing I did not consider was whether the amount of food we harvested would be large. To my surprise it was more than I could predict. Now this gives me another problem ahh ... I really do not know if it was a good idea to be the new leader of the tribe, maybe I could have become a counselor ahh ...

After observing how the villagers were happy for the harvest, I looked up at the sky, sighing when I realized at the top of the mountains I could see a white mantle falling on them.

-ah ... it's snow, it's true soon it will be winter- before my monologue an idea crossed my mind.
